Mithrun's not sure what drives him to do it, but when Laios presents him with a shard of the demon's desire, his first thought is to give it to one who needs it more. Even if he doesn't appreciate it, even if he doesn't understand yet the magnitude of its power.
Thistle leaves with the Canaries in the days that follow headed for the Northen Central Continent only a little more lucid. On Falin's behalf, Mithrun keeps abreast of Thistle's condition, though no one's sure what desire still stirs in the depths of his heart.
It's only in the weeks and months following that the true nature of Thistle's remaining desire becomes cognizable— and Mithrun's certain it has something to do with him.

Awake with the sunrise, fresh-faced and overeager as always, Childe invites Zhongli to spar with him. It’s a warm day and Zhongli removes his meticulously designed overcoat— the first of Childe’s problems. The boxy set of Zhongli’s shoulders loosens, replaced by the smooth curve of cream cotton fastened around muscled biceps by sleeve garters. It’s by no means lewd to wear a snugly fitting vest, but the way the swallow tailed collar accents Zhongli’s chest leaves Childe’s throat dry all the same.
He could make even nudity look elegant.

The show is just like every other performance Blaise Fouquet has given this year. He plays perfectly, his heart dead but his fingers flying, and the audience gives him rapturous applause until he reappears for an encore.
He plays one more, something short and light that makes him feel even more empty inside, and then flees backstage, where the creative director shakes his hand and says they’ve been so lucky to have him, it’s such a triumph to hear him play, and he nods and smiles and thanks and leaves.
Months are all a blur of the same. Hotels. Airports. Concert halls. Audiences. Music. Applause. Nothingness.
It’s not until a set of string's vining notes weave through and in and around his chords that Blaise feels the spark of something come alive.

Summary
Xiao is the name he was given upon his new contract with the great dragon Rex Lapis, but before that, he was Alatus, a weak adeptus twisted to the whim of the God of Dreams. The blood on his hands and karmic debt on his shoulders corrupt his Heart and drive him toward death, until he happens across an otherworldly light stumbling through a lonely valley.
Aether has visited and fled more worlds than he can count, careful never to get attached, but this is the first time he's truly been trapped on any one of them, stripped of his power and split from his sister. He is certain he will starve and fade, chained by his immortality to a life of unending agony, unable to even put himself to rest— until he meets a lost and achingly gentle adeptus who brings him new hope.
It will be a long time before either of them learn how to receive the love they are given.
