Tick, Tick, Ping!
Another bolt shot off. Zacks head snapped back and to the side, his body twisting as the cutters he was holding clattered to the floor. His knees gave out and his eyes rolled into the back of his head. Booth hit the deck next to him, looping two arms under the kids armpits and dragging him with all his might back to the table. He couldn't spare a look down, he didn't know if he was still breathing. The shrapnel had enough force to lodge itself in concrete. They were all going to die and he couldn't do it, he couldn't save his friends again.
The timer's red screen flashed a threatening :05 as Booth threw himself and Zack under the only other unused table in the lab. Hodgins was yelling something, booth couldn't make out what. As he counted down the seconds he knocked the last table over and curled himself around the young doctor. Booth could feel the wet blood immediately stick to his chest where he had Zack's head tucked under him.
The following explosion was deafening. The room shook as a blinding light tore upwards, following a boiling heat. The walls cracked and the ceiling gave. Hodgins slammed his eyes shut as he saw the wave of flames come barreling towards him.
