The members of Thorin Oakenshield's company hadn't even really started their quest when they laid down that night. The world around them warps and twists until they're standing in a large circle of people they don't know as someone explains the game they've been chosen to play. A death game. The world blinks with them and it all starts. The game that turns into a desperate crawl for survival and all out war. Who lives? Who dies? Who wins? Will anything even stay the same in the end? -

“You can't be serious. An escort? Balin.” An image of a well groomed, muscular man with slick hair making suggestive comments in a darkened restaurant came to his mind, and Thorin shuddered. What has his life come to?Thorin is in trouble. A simple lie snowballs, and six months later he is expected to bring his mystery man to the family Christmas. Unfortunately for Thorin, the aforementioned man doesn’t exist. Fortunately for Thorin, Balin has an idea. Enter Bilbo Baggins, illustrator, writer and occasional professional boyfriend. As the two men get to know each other and set up a ruse to save Thorin’s dignity, things get a little… complicated. As the past is drudged up, both Bilbo and Thorin reconsider their present and wonder about their future. A Christmas story about love, fear, family and coming to terms with the fact that sometimes it might just be worth it to give it another chance.

Unfortunately, this coincides with the late departure of Kili, Tauriel, and Bilbo from the Shire, bringing Bilbo's most precious belongings back to the mountain where he plans to make his home. A rescue party sets out from Erebor, unsure if they can reach them in time, or what they might find when they do.

This is a fanfic of my own OC Beryl (Barrel) and the story of her journey, accompanying Thorin Oakenshield & Co. on the road to Erebor. The story follows all major plot points of the original novel by JRR Tolkien combined with the Peter Jackson film interpretations, BUT some scenes, dates, events have been altered in favor of enriching the story I wanted to write. SO please keep in mind, that while this work is based on the original media, it is not meant to be a recreation or copy by any means. All interpretations of Tolkien's original characters are influenced by the film adaptations, but are ultimately my own through their dialogue and relationships to my girl. I do not claim any rights to their names or likeness.
Because this fic follows the main storyline of The Hobbit, I do not feel the need to tag for violence, blood/gore, major character death, etc. What I will warn you about is the cursing and the *very few* sex/smut scenes throughout the parts. I know you all will probably want so much more once you get into it and all I gotta say is: Just wait.

Thorin sighs and his hand finally pulls away from Bilbo’s hair.Bilbo stares at his face and only just manages not to whine at the loss of warmth. (“It was the injury talking. Not me” he tells himself) close. Too close.
Then the words register and the hobbit sputters because how dare Thorin act as if Bilbo was being unreasonable.
“You left me.” The face Thorin makes is almost effective enough to make Bilbo cower.
“You left, Bilbo. In the dead of night. For food.”
“I was hungry.” Bilbo does what he never thought he’d be able to without thinking of his father’s disappointed eyebrow— he grumbles.
“I would’ve come if you had asked.” Thorin answers gruffly. This time he actually sounds offended. Thorin Oakenshield. Offended because Bilbo did not allow him to partake in a side quest for midnight snacks.
