In war, there are victors and losers. And after Roberts Rebellion many people lost.
And as the victor, Robert Baratheon was the one to hand down the punishment for those who fought against him. Chiefly, House Targaryen and House Tyrell. The daughters of both Houses would serve the punishment of their kin.
And so, by royal decree, Margaery Tyrell and Daenerys Targaryen were both betrothed to the Lord of Winterfell's base-born son, Jon Snow.

Summary
The Old Gods knew the Second Long Night was coming. They could foresee it as well as the likely paths it would arrive. But their past strategy, of a great champion to unite the souls of Westeros against the White Walkers, came too close to failing last time, and they did not like their prospects of merely repeating it. The realms of Men needed an edge, a sturdy shaft to back the speartip of their champion. And if they could expand their worship, why not? For the North is vast, and full of untapped potential.
The medieval stasis has been broken. The wheels of progress begin to turn.

Summary
"A Death for a Life."
As Lyanna Stark dies giving birth to Rhaegar Targaryen's last child, a dragon egg hatches for the babe. With her final breath, she begs her brother Ned to keep her son and the dragon infant safe.
Jon Snow dreams of a dragon throughout his childhood; a dragon and a girl named Dany. As the years pass and he learns his true heritage, Jon must reclaim the dragon that was born for him if he is to find his place in the world. Summary
During King Robet's trip to Winterfell, he is very impressed by the prowess shown by his best friend's bastard son, Jon Snow. So much so that he demands Jon come with his father South to train, in the hopes of becoming a Kingsguard.
Of course with the truth being what it is, Ned isn't exactly on-board with this idea.
But Jon is smart. Far smarter than people think. He knows that training in King's Landing and swearing himself to the Kingsguard is a far better option than sacrificing his youth and the rest of his life to some glorified penal colony in the North.
So he goes South. Tyrion, ever the pot-stirrer, goes with. A great friendship blooms and with it, the destiny of the Seven Kingdoms are forever changed. Secrets revealed, loyalties tested and lifelong friendships dissolve.
But this is the Game of Thrones. You win or you die. There is no middle ground.

Summary
Ned Stark just wants to live with his family, in peace and never be dragged into southron affairs or their game of thrones ever again. He’s torn between his family by blood and his family by choice.
Lyanna Stark is a She Wolf that wants her son back and is baying for the blood of all those who hurt her family, her pack. She wants her loved ones safe and to never again hear of their slaughter, powerless to aid them.
Jon Snow wants to wash away the stain he puts on his honorable lord father’s cloak and to know the love of a mother. He can only do one of those things though, so he seizes the chance when after a run in with the Lady Catelyn and the announcement of the Kings arrival, his father gives him permission to go to the Wall.
Margaery Tyrell was raised to be queen. To her and her family’s eyes, it looks like the gods have a different plan when she receives a soul mark binding her to a northern bastard. She and her grandmother wonder which is worse, the cruel golden prince, or the bastard barbarian that worships trees?
Dragons and Roses, Stars and Wolves, all tangled together in the gods’ web.
