Summary
Dr. Maya Thomas was taking a break from the whole world. Too bad the world decided not to give her a break.
Long before the world ended, she was left heartbroken by the one person she thought was the only steady thing in her life. Years later, she hadn't learned her lesson because again she trusted someone who led her to a nervous breakdown and several people's deaths.
Now, the dead walk, the living kill, and trust has become as rare as clean water. She thought the dead would be the most dangerous thing she would ever come across. As usual, the universe laughed at her and proved her wrong.
In this new world where trust is a liability and hope can get you killed, Maya worries every day about how she can keep herself safe. Because she has to, if not for the world then for the little boy she found, who had become the only one she could trust. Mostly because he can't even talk yet.

Summary
Hermione Granger disappeared at the end of her seventh year shocking the entire school. It capped what was an extremely odd seven years at Hogwarts. Flash forward fifteen years and the class who graduated in 1998 is reconvening at their alma mater. Many of those attending wondered if Hermione would return for it since it seemed as if no one had heard from her since her departure. Her appearance moments before the reunion was to begin reminds many individuals what the world was like in the late 1990s and how it could have been much worse for everyone.
As Hermione arrives, she remembers the last two years of her time at the old school in a series of flashbacks triggered by various things and people she sees.

Summary
An aerie is a recessed ledge on the side of a cliff. It is commonly chosen by birds to build their nests upon, due to the inherent protection they provide. Many migratory birds will return to the same cliffside so long as it has adequate aeries for the colony.
Humans also need a safe place to grow and build a family. They just go about it differently.
In the case of Tony Stark, sometimes "differently" is an understatement.

The crepuscule of my old life lay before me, I knew, as I stared at myself sleeping peacefully in the only bedroom that would ever be truly mine. I had two choices: strap the ever-so-troublesome malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator to my own wrist, thus validating everything that had occurred within the past few years; or walk away and hope that, by not creating my own future, by not keeping up my own timeline, I would cease to exist in this hellish world, and return to the girl who could sleep in that bed, unaware.
