In a deviation from the Parting Ways ending, Daniel is killed at the border. Sean goes on to Mexico alone, and for the next six years lives an empty life devoid of meaning. When a bullet rips through his skull, Sean believes that it's finally the end.
But then he wakes up. And he sees a face so familiar it makes his heart ache. Why is this person saying that Sean is the one who's been dead for the last six years?

“You know..” his big brother mumbled, trailing one of his fingers down, down, down his shoulder, over his stomach, and finally along the waistband of his baseball pants, “you look sooo fucking good in your uniform.”
Sean’s finger hooked under the tight elastic and tested the give with a small pull. Daniel’s breath caught. For a moment, his body felt completely locked. Frozen like the captured gazelle he’d observed being torn to shreds in the wildlife documentary his teacher put on in biology class. He watched his brother's every movement with wide eyes -- because, really, what else could he do?
Sean continued, “It looks good but.. I think I like you better without it.” His brother’s gaze finally trailed back towards his own, his eye crinkling with amusement. “So, why don’t you take it off for me?”
(or: Daniel, a freshman honor student and the star player on his highschool's baseball team, screws up and gets timed-out of the most important game of the season. Sean, his older brother and a super-senior, helps him the way he knows Daniel loves best in the locker rooms.
