“Alright, that was pretty bad.” She feels more than she sees Pearl leaning closer, voice lowered to a Pearl approximation of a whisper. “I was just tryin’ to say I’m happy for you both. It ain’t easy doing it in public, but–”
“Excuse me!?” Shiver’s shriek is quiet but piercing; the other idol flinches back.
“Uh–”
“Doing it in public, what is that supposed to mean you little gremlin!?”
“Dating!” Pearl corrects, slinging an arm over the back of Shiver’s chair, close enough to breathe each other’s air. Shiver’s tentacle starts to curl. She grinds her teeth until the pain makes it hang limp.
Big Man and Marina look over – they get identical reassuring waves in response even as Pearl continues, “I meant dating. My bad, yo.”
It takes a moment for that to process. When it does, Shiver goes cold.
“Frye and I are not dating.”
Pearl winks.
“Right, neither are Marina and I.”
