Lyle blinked. Terror rushed through him, even if he had excuses primed and ready. His mouth opened, half-shocked and half-prepared, but nothing came out.
The door just… opened when his hand hit it. Nobody answered. Cautiously, Lyle pushed the door further open and peered into Sam’s apartment.
Dark. Quiet. Lyle let himself in. He unwound his key from around his wrist and tucked it further into his robes, safely out of sight. He felt too loud for the space. He clicked and didn’t stop, though now more out of unease than eagerness. Why would Sam leave his door unlocked? He’d never done that before. It was extremely unlike him. Which meant something was wrong. Sam wasn’t great with routines, but he’d never once left his door unlocked, let alone not even fully shut.

Summary
Pheromone assault is considered a serious crime in Bugaria and with good reason: pheromones can cause even the nicest of bugs to lose all their sense of self and personality, and become utterly subservient to the whims of the one controlling them, even if it means attacking their friends and loved ones with the intent to grievously harm or even kill. And then there is the chance of causing an unfortunate side effect amongst male bugs that makes one afflicted with pheromones become uncontrollably... aroused.
When Kabbu is forced by the seamstress Kali to fight Vi and Leif over a broken vase and his pre-Awakening mating drive is unintentionally triggered, the beetle finds himself struggling to cope. Burdened by guilt, past trauma and losses, a crushing secret, and a love he feels he cannot share, Kabbu can only see himself spiralling downwards. If only he knew that his hidden affections were being reciprocated with just as much secrecy, by someone who has no idea how to deal with such feelings. If only both could get past their denial and their guilt. And yet Team Snakemouth have faced many challenges together before and their bonds have remained resolute. The isolation, cold, pain, and hundreds of thousands of cycles worth of thinking made him dead set on never going through that ever again. Even if that meant ripping off his umbilical before that could ever happen.In the meantime... The rest of the local group is confused. After all, the Pebbles they knew was a pretensious jerk who killed Moon then cut all communications, but the one that came back to them was a paranoid mess who seemed to space out every few minutes.
