Summary
For centuries, commoners and aristocrats alike have flocked to the capital for the Imperial Examinations. Thousands and thousands of young men dream of reading their names on the Golden Placard, promising wealth and status at the heart of the empire.
This year, the stakes were higher than ever: Emperor Lan had declared that the first-ranked scholar would win not only a coveted spot in his cabinet, but also the hand of Princess Lan Zhan.
In hindsight, Wei Ying probably should have considered that before dressing up as a man and taking the exam under her brother's name. In her defence, how was she supposed to know that all these other young gentlemen-scholars were so dumb?
