Amendment: Dick only thinks of Midnighter every now and then since Moscow, when he’s particularly sorry for himself, and rarely for longer than it takes to remember most I Work Alone rogue types are never worth the pinhole-leak of yearning grief in their aftermath.
The warping traversal spits them out clear across the southern edge of the coast, on the quiet side of a rooftop bar sixty miles from Jerez. Dick gets his feet back under him, water-legged, and vomits neatly into a rockrose shrub coming into bloom over the edge of the veranda.

Bruce couldn't bring himself to touch Robin, to cross that line, despite the boy's obvious feelings for him. Trying to protect him, Bruce pushes Dick away. Slade is there, silently offering what Bruce refused to give. Dick, desperate for security in the wake of this heartbreak, lets himself be greedy and take it.
Bruce can do nothing but watch from afar and burn with envy. (for now...)

This remarkable letter of unknown provenance surfaced recently in the cuneiform collection of the University of West Wessex. Addressed to Azirapil from a Mr. “Crawly,” it appears to be begging for the other’s return to Ur from a western journey with another individual, Abiraham. The relationship between the two (brothers? business partners? friends?) is unknown.

“Frank?” His voice scratched with the disuse of sleep.
“I mean,” Frank corrected, inhaling sharply. “Would you like to play chess with me.” It still wasn’t a question. “You should. Play chess with me, that is. Or want to, anyway.”

There's not a whole lot to do onboard Discovery One. Dave's got some hobbies, there's no shortage of reading, but Frank has tunneled on, of all things, chess. Someone please entertain him. Please.
