Feliciano was the first to fold, the coward he was. He turned himself in before Mussolini had even been hanged. Kiku vowed to keep fighting for as long as the sun rose in the East—and so, one morning, the sun came falling down on him in retribution.
Only Ludwig remained on the run, fleeing Berlin at the first mention of Hitler’s death, sending an aide to collect Gilbert and Roderichs’ bodies from Dachau before the British could reach it. There were only two problems with his plan: Firstly, his plans were leaked, and Alfred Jones was waiting for him on a dock in Seychelles, pointing a pistol at the young man’s head. That, and against all odds, Gilbert and Roderich lived.
With no precedent to follow, representatives of the allied nations played judge against Ludwig, and took a vote. The decision was unanimous, that on December 15th, 1945, Ludwig Beilschmidt would be executed by a member of the council chosen at random and sworn to secrecy.
But when he woke up two days later, it became clear the world had a much greater question to answer: what now?

Bruce leaned forward, swearing to himself that he did it because he was going to wake her up, but he took a moment to study her face. In her sleep, she gave no scowls or angry diatribes, and yet she did not look peaceful. No, he decided. She did not look peaceful sleeping, but she looked dignified, as though she was about to rise from some lake in England and give a peasant boy a sword.
He placed a hand on her shoulder, and the vision melted. Mallory woke with a start, jumping onto her feet and transforming into the nearest version of a snarling animal that a human could be.
“Bruce Wayne.”
She said it like a curse word, and Bruce should know because he watched every interview that she had on television. Jason had put him up to it.
Bruce tried on a smile— a practiced one, the same smile that he used when negotiating a deal with a bull-headed investor. He knew that it was a losing battle the moment her eyes narrowed.
“Fuck off.”
Alright. Time to switch tactics.

There's something undeniably cozy about spending the evening huddled with all the people she's come to know through being a Phantom Thief. At first, the cold outside will have everyone with a cup of coffee, but eventually, with so many people, it becomes much too warm inside to want another. Every year, despite their numbers, or the volume of conversation, it never feels claustrophobic. Sometimes it's a little overwhelming, but more akin to holding your hand next to an open flame : a warmth that doesn't quite burn.
Today is just like every year. Makoto mingles, she enjoys the atmosphere and makes idle conversation. However, every now and then, despite her best efforts to enjoy the moment, she finds her eyes wandering back to Akechi.

Nikolai rested chin on a palm and leaned forwards. “Tell me Dos-kun, what do you think is the worse”, he murmured in equally sentimental and derisive tone, as if vacillating between scorn and affections. Despite the sorrowful smile there was something in Nikolai’s expression that alarmed.

In which Nikolai, driven to brink of madness by love, saves Fyodor from death and helps him recover. Except now that he finally has Fyodor within arm’s reach he won’t be so willing to let go.
