Hizashi hadn't realized just how much love his heart could hold until his kids came into his life — From the moment he met them he'd been prepared to lay down his life for them. Eri and Hitoshi owned his heart even though theirs lied with his husband. He'd been prepared for it, and it didn't bother him.
He'd known. It shouldn't have hurt. Yet, when he found it thrown back in his face while simply making his kids dinner, Hizashi didn't expect it.
(Or, Hizashi comes to the very incorrect assumption that his kids don't love him. His family sets him straight.)

Summary
By the second lap that sharp pain has mellowed out to something more permanent, something pounding, that aches everywhere, but it’s easier to bear than the stabbing from before. Hitoshi makes it into the third lap before Aizawa calls a stop to it.
He critically musters Hitoshi from head to toe before he asks: “Can you take more?”
Hitoshi bites back on the hysterical laugh that threatens to break free because everyone is only ever asking if he can take more, more but never if he wants to and no one ever worries for his well-being. But Hitoshi finds that he’s tired; so tired in fact, that he simply shakes his head.
He doesn’t care what happens to him anymore; maybe Aizawa will finally put an end to him. At least then Hitoshi can rest.
“No, I can’t,” he admits and he forces himself to meet Aizawa’s eyes.

Hitoshi looks at the room again and he feels lost. It's the first time in way too many years that he has a suitable space all to himself, one where he's allowed to rest, where he's allowed to close the door, one he can call his own and even though he yearns for it, he knows it can't be.
He's going to fuck up sooner or later, because he always does, and then Yamada and Aizawa will realise that taking him in was the worst mistake they ever made. They'll kick him out, and Hitoshi will end up with a family he deserves—one who knows better than to be nice to him.
So no matter how much he wants it, no matter how much he yearns for this, Hitoshi cannot get used to this because then it will hurt so much worse when it's all taken away from him.
