New Mexico, 1854.
Many monsters, man and beast alike, roam the vast scrub-lands of the Chihuahuan desert. Gold, grief, greed, and glory drive men to spill blood with no purpose but to dampen the sand. Timothy Drake, an east coast heir, hunts those creatures which would revel in the carnage, man and beast alike. On his way to Sonora, called for aid by an old friend, Timothy is in turn hunted by a demon with an unfounded interest in him.

Summary
