Summary
Years after their flight from Santa Barbara Abby and Lev have stopped running. Living in a community of like minded folks Abby finally has a place to let Lev have a life.
The moment she left her empty farmhouse Ellie has never stopped running. Her hunt for vengeance still haunts her. Only now she stalks new prey in the shadows as her immunity changes into something different, and more deadly.
When paths collide Abby discovers the immune girl is more complicated then the Fireflies thought. Can she redeem her father's legacy and alter the course of the cordycep epidemic, and is the fate of the world worth more then the life of one girl?

Summary
They say time heals all wounds. Twelve years after Santa Barbara, wounds may not be healed, but they’re certainly less raw.
Desperation drives Abby and all that remains of the Catalina Fireflies to follow rumors of a person spreading immunity to the cordyceps infection. She isn’t entirely surprised when that person turns out to be Ellie, but it doesn’t make it any easier to ask her for help.
Against all her preconceptions about the woman, she does.
By now both of them have learned that the way forward isn’t by chasing the past, or running from it. But when forced to coexist in the same community, they have to at least confront it. For the sake of the people they love, they have to put it behind them once and for all.
And maybe, for the sake of themselves… build something new between them.

The pointed tips of her gold-wrapped fingers tinkling metallically on the brass.
The youngest among them, Councilor Arvino, makes the order. “Sheriff,”
From the gallery, a uniformed figure steps forward. He wears the bronze badge of the office of Sheriff, a provisional title, bestowed upon him as the most senior surviving Enforcer uninjured enough to fill the role.
“Sheriff Steb,” Councilor Arvino repeats. “Would you initiate procedures to take the former Commander Caitlyn Kiramman into custody as soon as possible.” This is not a question, but a unilateral order.
