Sally was no stranger to loss. She had lost her parents on Michael Varus stupid expedition. Lost her best friend in a failed raid she had to be rescued from. Lost her first love in the same battle that got her raised as Praetor, not like she held the post for long.
This time it was different. She thought she could leave the Legion behind, start a regular mortal life, write a book or maybe start a bakery. She had a mortal boyfriend ignorant of the fact she had been raised as a child soldier, ignorant of Euryale’s lifelong grudge.
Or well, had a boyfriend.
“This was a mistake,” he said, after a single night of passion two months into their relationship. She was still lying in bed, covered only by the crumpled sheets and half asleep when he left. No ‘I’m sorry’. No explanations. Just stood up and left.
Well fuck him. He was terrible in bed anyways.
