    Summary

Leorio jogs up the steps to the porch of the lodge and stops before the bright green screen door. He throws his shoulders back and takes a big breath in and out, preparing to look upon his new domain. Then he flings the door open and struts inside.

The first thing he spots is the kitchen: sturdily functional, smudged with use, crammed between the paneled walls. That’s fine. It’ll be a decent work space. It’s nothing to the second, more important, thing Leorio notices, which is that there’s someone in his kitchen.

[The field ecology AU, feat. Leorio as camp cook and Kurapika as overworked doctoral student. Summer fun, tall tales, uncommon intimacies, and risk and devotion in the field.]

I’m no performer, not like Leap. But I know a few tricks—black coffee, shiny suits, giving quick answers slowly. It’s all an act, but at least this one’s fun.

    Summary

It is ridiculous to cross the glacier like this—a disgraced journalist with nothing but his pride and an optimistic offworlder with a duffel and a smile, plunging into the freezing night—ridiculous, and foolhardy, and probably deadly to them both. But, Trent muses, as Ted catches up to him and they press on together toward the lightless slope of the glacier, it’s also the one route nobody would think to follow.

He dreams, though, about warm green water, lapping slow and lazy through the golden prairie grass. There are little waves running under the stems and licking over his feet, and he's in his sneakers but his socks aren't sticking to his toes. He's just walking. Could walk forever.

So: waiting, in the evening, for the alert to appear, so that the herpetology records may be updated with the latest snakes, lizards, turtles, and frogs that Wei Ying has collected in the “Burial Mounds”. There is no location data associated with this name, no matter how many geolocation requests are submitted. (Nie Huaisang once claimed to know where the Burial Mounds are, but Nie Huaisang also claims that shadow boxes are a responsible method of arthropod preservation, so Lan Wangji has his doubts. The pinned butterflies are, however, very beautiful.)
