Summary
When Daniil presents as a late-blooming omega, the only way to save his laboratory from scandal is to sever ties with it completely. An invitation from his old friend Isidor offers an escape - a new life in a remote, peaceful town and an arranged union with Isidor's dutiful son, Artemy. It's a miserable retreat from everything Daniil has worked to build, but worse is arriving to find that Isidor died shortly after writing to him.
Artemy is determined to honour his father's dying request and take care of Daniil. But he expected a grateful, compliant omega, not a man bitterly grieving his life's work and autonomy. In which Mehrak mistakes a throwaway comment from Kaveh as an order and does everything in its (regrettably limited) power to fulfill it. When it realizes that Kaveh’s happiness could lie with a certain roommate, it intends to throw everything it has into playing matchmaker.

"I assume you mean Uldren killing me."
"Yes. Your Final Death was always his to take. It's his legacy."
"But not this time." He clarified as he pointed at the frozen scene in front of them. "Which means something changed. Something...Or someone wanted me here."

After getting into yet another argument with Alhaitham, Kaveh leaves for a research trip in the desert, only to disappear shortly afterwards. All signs suggest that the trip is ill-fated.
Alhaitham tries to accept that Kaveh is gone, and yet deep down he feels like Kaveh is still out there somewhere, waiting to be found.
Naturally, Alhaitham takes it upon himself to track him down and bring him home.
Nothing is going to stand in his way.

All of their combined genius—all of Kaveh's mechanical expertise; all of Alhaitham's reason—has thus far failed to open these great doors. There are no mechanisms that Kaveh has been able to discern, nor any trick or puzzle that Alhaitham can see.
They are entirely at the mercy of King Deshret's remnant.
At last, Alhaitham opens his mouth. "Kaveh."
"No!" Kaveh says. He looks stricken. "We can't do it. I can't do it—I won't agree to his request! I... I won't do it." Kaveh's eyes glimmer with emotion. "I won't marry you!"
Trapped within a domain, Kaveh and Alhaitham are forced to enact a ghost wedding—one playing the role of King Deshret, the other Nabu Malikata. Only then will they be allowed to leave.

After getting fired from a prestigious architecture firm, Kaveh moves back to his hometown to raise his five-year-old brother only to find that an old college "acquaintance" is his little brother's kindergarten teacher.

Kaveh watched the up-and-down of Alhaitham's larynx as he swallowed, a flash of uncertainty in his sea-green eyes. Kaveh licked his lips. He stepped forward. Alhaitham stepped back. That retreat thrilled Kaveh, so he pushed forward until Alhaitham hit, with a slight stumble, a wall behind him—one of those damnable invisible walls in the desert.
Kaveh's eyes travelled slowly down, following the lines of his cape to his arm, where his gaze stopped, as if transfixed. "That scar," he said. "It's still there?"
"... Yes," Alhaitham said.
Kaveh's rutting. Alhaitham offers to help.

Kaveh grunts in frustration. “When I save your sorry hide later on I expect a thank you.”
“I’d rather just decompose in a pit somewhere than be beholden to any favor of yours,” comes Alhaitham’s dry reply.
Even in public, no punches are held. Alhaitham strikes right at Kaveh where it hurts, rendering him useless. “You utter troglodyte,” spits Kaveh, not one bit embarrassed by his choice of insult. And neither is Alhaitham who just throws a look over his shoulder, eyebrow raised.
Kaveh gets his chance, later on when Alhaitham walks right into a nest of fungus and eats a face full of spores.
