Summary
Warmth at her lips, softer than the breath she drew in, the clench of her fingers in damp fabric before she felt the swipe of his thumb over her cheek, the motion she’d relived every night since the tent, brushing the pad of her pinky on the tracks of heat he’d seared beneath her skin.

Summary
His fingers wrap around her upper arm again before he can restrain the movement, her eyes startlingly green above the dark smudges of—
“Helly.” She clenches her jaw against whatever dart she was preparing to shoot at his neck, breathes once as if allowing for the strange intimacy of the name he can’t convince himself he’d butcher willingly a second time. “How long has it been since you slept?”

Summary
It wouldn’t have bothered her enough to pump blood into her cheeks if she hadn’t remembered him a few kicks later. That guy from the bus with the nose and the staticky rock always turned just high enough to force her to hit against the locked safety setting of her Bose because his prehistoric Walkman had no proper sound isolation. He barely ever lifted his eyes off his comic to catch her glaring at him in the window reflection.
Why the fuck was he trying to sabotage her swim?

Summary
“Excuse me, miss? Are you trying to find someone?”
“Yes, I—”
Yijin’s typing hands froze halfway through a syllable, the end of the thought drowned out by his heart. Every sound in the room seemed to fade out with the last of the pale winter light, until her voice was a candle-warm touch at his ear.

Summary
The camcorder sits open on the car’s dash with his innie’s face frozen on the foldout screen. There’d been no reason for Mark Scout to watch the recording again; he has it almost memorized by this point, at least the part that matters. His innie’s words still ring in his ears, said flippantly and jovially and with no idea how they’d affect him. Strange, too, since they’re the same person.
“You know, I’ve been thinking—I’ve met Helena a few times now. Maybe you should meet Helly?”
He’d heard nothing from Helly since they’d started this arrangement, and he’d begun to give up hope he ever would. Why would he anyway? She doesn’t know him. But still, every time his innie sends him a message, he studies the corners of each frame for a glimpse of her, turns the volume up in the hopes he’ll hear the whisper of her voice.
--
A year and a half post-Cold Harbor, Mark Scout and Helena Eagan drive to Damon Birthing Retreat each weekend so that their innies can spend time together. When Mark's innie gets the bright idea for Mark Scout and Helly R. to meet, things start to unravel.

Summary
Only fools travel in winter. Roads heave, cold kills, bandits lurk at empty inns. He knows, he knows - he’s heard it all before. If he doesn’t leave now, he never will. A month on foot feels easier to survive than one spent at home, sandy path covered in snow, the waves crashing onto the rocks more welcoming than his cold, empty bed.
Devon wants to know why. Asks in every letter, concern dripping like unblotted ink.
‘My wife left me,’ he writes, ‘I’m going to ask the Enchantress for a spell to help me forget.’
