    A sudden blast like a rocket and whirr like a piston slices through the summer peace. Tango looks up, then leaps to his feet. Pearl’s speeding towards him through the water, riding some kind of machine that’s gotta be modded; it’s gotta be. Maybe those handlebars come from armor stand bits, but all the rest? Uhhh, yeah. So, that happened.

    I’m a fish now, Tango thinks, staring forward. My blinkers don’t blink. I am just… Fishman Tango from now on. He jogs down the beach, flinging hands to either side. “I- I don’t know what my eyes are even seeing right now! Whaaat? I don’t- I don’t understand, no. Pearl, how are you-? Where did you get that!?”

    Every July, the Hermits visit a local beach server. And every July, Tango stays on the sand—well away from the cold, unrelenting surf.

    This year, Pearl brought a jet ski.

    Footsteps sound from farther away, but seem to be rapidly approaching. They’re swift and strong, moving with purpose.

    He has a hard time hearing them over the beating of his heart.

    Whoever or whatever it is enters the kitchen, then seems to stop near the threshold. Tango waits a few moments before tentatively peeking his head out from behind the island.

    Only a few feet away is a dark shape, form twisting and turning like smoke.

    He quickly ducks back and holds his breath. If he can't see it, it's not there!

    The footsteps don't resume. Not even after what feels like an eternity of waiting. Tango shuts his eyes tight at some point, hoping beyond hope that he'll make it through this.

    Pearl has spent over a year in space with a crew of three under her command on an outdated space station. She’s tired, unsure, and knows she won’t be catching a break for at least another year. She is not expecting late additions to the crew.

    Gem knows she’s an astronaut. Gem also knows she’s supposed to have a body. She knows she can see a space station. And a person in a space suit, untethered, careening towards it like an asteroid. She is not expecting that person to be her.

    Gempearl split POV space fic strongly influenced by space fiction podcast Wolf 359, taking in fun details from Wild Life.
    FEATURING: Space, women loving women, three guy best friends, shady corporations, cosmic beings beyond comprehension, out of date equipment, wildly inaccurate sci-fi very loosely based on fact, one (1) ghost, zero (???) aliens, and whatever’s being kept in deep storage...

    “What the actual hell are you doing?!” Grian says, exasperated as he watches one of the villains cut a borderline hole in his own arm. Blood flows from the wound while the Bamboozlers just stands there and waits for Grian to force him onto the medical bed, laying out gauze and bandages.

    “I’m testing you.” The villain finally replies.

    Grian, who is way to stressed to even give a damn, his houghts circle around how much shit he’ll be if he let one of his kidnappers bleed out because of him, then he’ll for sure be six feet under before he’s pleaded his case. “You could’ve waited for when you got hurt not on purpose?” His voice strained yet less now that he realizes just how calm this man is.

    “I’m too impatient for that.”

    After being kidnapped he’s treated as their own Nurse.
