    DannyMay - Day Two: 1990s.

When Phantom wakes up, they do not expect to find themselves on the forest floor. They crane their head back and see nothing but dark clouds, treetops, and a flurry of snowfall drifting from the sky. How did he end up outside of the Zone? He's in the middle of wondering how exactly is he supposed to get back he's supposed to get back home when he hears it---the sound of a small child, crying.

    OR

Danny wants to be an astronaut when he grows up. Phantom wanted to be an astronaut too, once.

“I wanna be an astronaut when I grow up,” Danny confides, nodding very seriously.

“You know,” Phantom says, “I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up, too.”

“Oh!” Danny exclaims, pressing even closer. His little face is right up next to Phantom’s, eyes sparkling with so much joy that it would be contagious if not for the dread Phantom is able to feel slowly begin to build deep in his chest. The boy lifts up his teddy bear, the one dressed in the tiny astronaut costume and asks, “Did you ever get to be one? You know lots ‘bout space!"

“No,” Phantom is barely able to reply. His tongue feels thick and heavy in his mouth. “I didn’t."

"I wish I could see it," she says. "If I were a seagull, I would fly as far as I could and sing for everyone!"

"You will get to see it," he tells her, squeezing her hand in his. "I'm going to find a way off this island, and I'll take you with me. You'll get to see all of it."

"There was an island," Legend spills before his brain can catch up with his heart, "called Koholint. It was warm, and always sunny, and—"

Don't ever forget me, okay? Marin smiles, knowingly.

"It's gone," he admits. "I left, because I was selfish, and now it's gone."

    "Why?" Time asks.

"Because it didn't exist to begin with," he says. "And neither do I."

“I miss your pink hair,” she says. “It was cute.”

Link scoffs, not unkind, and her cheeks warm with embarrassment. “I don’t miss it.”

“Oh, you’ve become such a grump!” Marin’s laughter is like a songbird.

Link rolls her eyes. “It’s been years, Marin, we’ve both changed.”

“You know I haven’t.” Marin flashes her perfect smile.

    Summary

Before going to free any of the Divine Beasts, before remembering much of anything of his fractured memories, Link finds himself in possession of a strange instrument from the distant past, and remembers a song said to bend time itself to the will of those blessed by the Goddess Hylia.

    This changes a few things.

    This changes everything.

    "Together," Link whispers.

All eyes go to him. For the first time in a very long time, he smiles back at the five people he cares most about in the world, in all the ways that applies. Friends, family, even more than that.

His thoughts go, briefly, to the ocarina left somewhere in the Slate. He couldn't get it now if he wanted to, not unless the Sheikah Slate suddenly decides to start working again if it's given back to him, and he doesn't exactly have time to ask for it now. He could try anyway, if he really, really wanted to.

The thing is? He doesn't. This is terrifying, even more so than walking into that castle to fight Calamity Ganon was so many hours ago. But that won't stop him. Being scared of things hasn't ever stopped him before. He's not about to let that stop him now.

He thinks that might be called courage.

The gods answered your prayers if you were one of the good ones. The worthy ones. Their chosen ones.

But what gods would allow us to be stranded on a hostile sea, to die by inches in the heat and sun and salt?

"The waters will recede soon," I told her instead. Floodwaters always did, though it wouldn't be in time to save us.

"No," she replied, strangely solemn, "they won't. The goddesses said so."
