Summary
For the past few weeks, he’s been puzzling over it. Things kept showing up - in his bunk room, in his locker, passed along with reports. After nearly every shipment delivery or campaign end there’d be something new for him to find. Different foods and sweets, books about all sorts of subjects, soft civilian clothes, jewelry. And the plants, a handful of carefully clipped flowers growing in special little cases that give them the light and climate conditions they need to survive while in space.
They all showed up without explanation or reason, until now.

He sits up, probably before he is ready, and his vision spins, gut twisting in warning. He blinks past the nausea, fights through the lightheadedness, enough so that he can glance around at his surroundings.
He is in a forest, at the edges of an empty clearing, not a building in sight, and Jayce’s body is limp a few feet away from him.
