Sherlock Holmes is helplessly infatuated with William James Moriarty, and vice versa. Sherlock proposes they travel on a cruise together, since the sailing of Noahtic had been cut short by the tragedy of Enders. While on the voyage, they openly fall in love, but another disaster strikes that causes William's biggest secret to be revealed. “How can I be happy when I am being left behind?” he blurts out and realizes what a pathetic, selfish statement that is.
But he knows Mycroft will be the last to judge.
“Have you ever seen ivy overtake a building?” Mycroft suddenly asks as he brings his cigarette back up to his lips. The embers on his cigarette glow and dim, and Albert looks away from Mycroft’s parted lips. He already knows where he’s going with this. “It might be time for you three to grow apart.”
Albert reminisces on past, present, and future, and his place in the world. Guilt is his crown of thorns to wear, but he must learn to move on.

Summary
Sherlock Holmes caught the Lord of Crime, after all.
The only trouble is, William James Moriarty isn't entirely sure that he wanted to be caught. It appears to be far too late now, aboard a steamship destined for New York City; even if William wanted to, he was no longer capable of outrunning Sherlock Holmes.
William was perfectly willing to stew in his existential angst all the way to New York, but when a Monsieur Allard disappears in the middle of the night with no witnesses, Sherlock enlists him to solve the crime. That is, if there even is a crime to solve.
Perhaps William isn't ready to give up just yet.
