Summary
Lucanis turned his head from Rook to look at the Venatori, but from behind him the Venatori’s claw-like hands kept Lucanis’ head in place, forcing him to watch. He leaned in, wine breath and metallic scent, making Lucanis’ gut lurch even more, as if the view wasn’t sickening enough. “Wonder how mangled he needs to be until you sing, Crow.”
(After Lucanis attempts (and fails) to kill Zara, he grapples with new-found betrayals, lost purposes, and feelings he can no longer ignore and refuse to acknowledge all the same. Rook, meanwhile, does what he does best: getting himself skewered by various blood magic attacks, doing dark necromantic rituals to prevent evil witches to come back to life, sneaking into a Venatori gala, and eventually finding himself smack dab in the heart and actual mind of certain assassin)

“They say this cuts you off from the Fade.” The leader said, and though Lucanis can’t see his face from how the leader has his back towards Lucanis’s cell, he could hear the sinister smile in his words now. “The Dread Wolf won’t be able to talk through you. You won’t be able to talk through yourself.”
Rook stepped backwards, eyes darting from the iron to the Antaam.
Spite turns up next to Rook in his cell, circling the mage unknowingly, “He’s scaaa–red.” Spite said, sing-songy, dragging the word out.
(Rook almost becomes Tranquil, and Lucanis watched the whole thing. Afterwards, Rook acts like everything's fine, but Lucanis has known him too well now to let it slide so easily.)

“A slave collar." Tarquin explained, “Enchanted to send a nasty shock if you do something your master dislikes, and to zap you to death if you try to pry it out yourself.”
Rook let out an audible groan that stopped halfway, standing straighter and clamming up– must've been another shock to his neck. He settled for pinching the bridge of his nose, clearly frustrated.
“How do we get it off him?” Lucanis asked Tarquin. Tarquin snorted, “I think Rook over there has figured it out."
(After a slave trade rescue mission that went sideways, Rook gets saddled with a slave collar and Lucanis finds he really misses the noise... until he doesn't.)

Summary
After the disaster at Weisshaupt, Rook struggles to keep the team going, offering little nuggets of support to anyone who asks while he battles with his own thoughts. He doesn't realize that his attempt to listen to Bellara's troubles afterwards also helped a certain assassin eavesdropping from the pantry who never asked for help; and receives the favor returned in kind when he didn't either.

Summary
Lucanis shifted his weight on his feet, eyed Rook rather suspiciously, but then said, “I’ll owe you.”
Of all things he could’ve said, Rook wasn’t quite expecting that. He let out a soft surprised chuckle, “Well. I’m sure we’ll owe each other a lot more before this is all over. Let’s go.”
(It starts with a Rook saving a Crow from The Ossuary and it ends with the Rook saving the Crow's home, but in-between all that they find some time to learn about the other.)
