    “I’m pissed because– oh, right.” Jason reached up and underneath the collar of the unzipped jacket, tugging off one of his primary scent blockers.

    Tim, standing so close, was suddenly awash in the smell of Jason, rich and sweet and deep, mouthwatering in a way that made it almost impossible for Tim to resist reaching up and burying his face in the crook of his shoulder. Jason always smelled good, but God, it was like someone was caramelizing sugar, letting that incredible fragrance waft into the air, and–

    Oh. Jason did smell better than normal, with extra sweet and musky notes, because–

    “You dumped me straight into pre-heat,” Jason explained, “and then you left. I almost went into shock. Can I get a little concern for my health and well-being, here?”

    “Holy shit,” Tim said, stunned. He had sort of thought that that didn't happen in real life. Well, he knew it was a possibility, but – no, he hadn't, because he'd always assumed it only applied to alpha and omega couples.

    Tim had put Jason in heat.

    Jason was pacing the length of his bedroom, waiting for Dick to call him back, to let him know if Tim had woken up yet. He took another swig of beer from the bottle in his hand.
    He just…couldn’t take it when he saw Tim like that. Jason had panicked when he first saw him, thinking he was too late. He’d cut Tim down quickly, cradling him as gently as he could. Tears of relief had streamed freely down his face when he’d felt Tim’s breath against his cheek. He didn’t have near enough gauze on him to cover even a third of the gashes Tim had sustained.
    He felt his blood boil again, just thinking about it. He took another sip of his beer. He probably shouldn’t be drinking, but it was either that or smoke and he’d already gone through three cigarettes tonight.

    All the details were the same as last time: the plush bedding, the crystal bowl filled with individually wrapped sour candies that would turn his mouth blue or green, even the vase of pink tulips. It only ever took Tim taking a shred of positive interest in something, and it would show up in the hotel room whenever his attention was wanted. He was sure that if he checked the minibar, it would be stocked with his favourite drinks.

    He knew he couldn’t complain, the gestures were supposed to be something nice, confirmation that Jason valued him for more than just his services. He could do a lot worse than one of Senator Wayne’s sons as a patron, could do a lot worse than a decent guy like Jason, who wanted company just as much as he wanted sex.

    After Janet Drake's death life went from bad to worse for the Drake family, Tim eventually finds a way to make some stable money, he just didn't expect the cost to be his own feelings.

    The reprieve from his parents is a welcome one as Tim slips into the crowd at the markets. They insisted on accompanying him to pick out his dragon now that he’d come of age. To make sure he picks a beast worthy of the Drake name, they’d said. Tim has lived under his parents' thumb long enough to know it’s another effort on their part to keep him under his control. Ever since he mentioned off-hand about becoming one of the Gotham territory guards, they’d insisted on being heavily involved in his dragon riding training and, now, the selection of his actual dragon.
