Summary
“We will die in the Cleanse if we stay in the reset timeline,” Five begins to pace nervously, back and forth down the subway station. “We need to go back and fix it.”
Klaus nods.
“So we’re saving the world from the Squid Squad now?”
“Looks like it.”

Summary
“Your mission has been successfully completed, Number Eight.”
Klaus thinks he’s tripping, no, he is definitely tripping, because Reginald looks and sounds proud, and he talks to him. On the periphery, Ben rolls his eyes.
“My… what?” Klaus looks around, trying to find an answer in his siblings’ faces. Number Eight? That’s even more degrading than being accurately the middle number on the scale.
Behind him, Allison pushes Five on the shoulder and asks,
“What the hell is going on?”

Summary
Tyler would shake Josh’s hand if his whole body didn’t start shaking instead.
“I’d say nice to meet you, but I wish you weren’t lying in front of my car half-naked,” Josh sheds off his jacket. “You’re bleeding,” he points at Tyler’s busted elbow.

Summary
One thing Josh learned about living in Dema is to not annoy anyone with questions. The bishops will take care of their needs, they’re safe here — with the disease spreading through the districts, it never hurts to be more careful.
And Josh is a very careful citizen. But Tyler keeps saying his life is not real.

Josh never wanted to be known as the guy inside of the basketball team’s mascot suit. Especially when this creature looks like it eats people’s souls.

Summary
“I can’t believe I slipped on your drumstick of all things,” Tyler throws his head back and covers his eyes with his forearm, sagging on the couch. “Did it look cool?”
“Graceful,” Josh lies. It looked like Tyler was going to snap his neck if he made one wrong move.

Summary
People disappear without a trace sometimes, only living in whispers of conversations behind closed doors. In Slowtown, they never talk twice about the blasphemers. Grainy black and white photos appear in the morning newspapers, just to end up in the citizens’ fireplaces in the evening.

“I played drums at a gig once.”
“Sick. I performed in front of, like, ten people once. Some of them booed. Some of them posted videos of me, and some said that I quit therapy too early.”

“God still hates me.”
“Klaus,” Luther says, in all seriousness. “You are God.”
Klaus scratches the back of his neck.
“Huh. This explains everything.”

“You know about the Hotel Obsidian already, why don’t you just go there and ask them? Why me? Why is it always me?”
“Because they won’t talk,” Ben says. “And you will.”
Klaus doesn’t like his tone. Klaus really, really doesn’t like it.

Summary
He’s sure the guy at the table in the corner recognizes him. Klaus bows his head to cover his face with his hair; he needs a better disguise as well. Could the Mothers of Agony buy his “don’t touch me, I have a son!” crap? Klaus groans. Maybe, going to the biker bar with Five was a bad idea, after all.

Summary
“Klaus, get up. Klaus?” his cheeks are numb after being slapped repeatedly. “Come on, wake up, you idiot.”
Five. Klaus always knew that Five’s brotherly love was its own mystery.
Someone’s sweaty fingers squeeze his wrist.
“No heartbeat. How the hell he’s still alive?”
And Klaus simply says,
“I’m not.”
