I take a step forward, the last one where I am still inside the walls of the turret. One look, I tell myself. Just one. I glance down and immediately feel vertigo rising like a tide of nausea in my stomach. Maybe that was not one of my best ideas. It takes more effort than it should to tear my gaze away. One misstep and I will be in free-fall.
I lock my eyes straight on my goal, the other turret at the end of the parapet. I can do this. I breathe in and out, shutting out all other thoughts. And then I start to run.
