All Jeremy Knox had to go on was a single message.
Fox: Partner’s name is Raven. Dark hair, velvet smoking jacket.
‘Raven?’ Jeremy called out, loud enough to draw his attention but quiet enough for no-one further away to notice. It worked: he looked over at Jeremy, his eyes narrowing as he regarded him.
‘You ‘ave got to be kidding me,’ Raven moaned, and Jeremy would have instantly melted at the thick French accent that came out of that mouth, if it wasn’t also for the rolling of those grey eyes in dismay. ‘You are Trojan?

At the front of the EU line, the woman at border control says, bon return, monsieur Moreau upon seeing his French passport and place of birth. They’re words he used to fantasise about hearing at sixteen, in the dark of the Nest where pain blurred his nights and days into a black hole.
Or: the one where Jean goes back to Marseille.

“It’s your choice, but you’re rotting away in here, Jean and no matter what she says, you can’t live in Abby’s spare bedroom forever. Time to start fighting again.”
Kevin’s hard and commanding tone was no surprise. The softness had been beaten out of him around the same time as Jean.
“What if I don’t want to anymore?”
Maybe it was because he had been half hidden in shadows-Jean had kept the shades drawn, but light still seeped in the cracks- but Jean thought he had seen something akin to understanding paint Kevin’s cool expression.
“He’s gone. You survived. Play or don’t, it’s up to you, but you need to get out of this fucking house.”

Helping Jean Moreau heal is a game where Jeremy Knox feels the stakes are too high to even consider the thought of losing. Jean’s first game as a Trojan against Edgar Allan feels like even higher stakes. Falling in love with Moreau - well, those are the highest stakes of all.
“You are his Achilles’ heel,” Laila whispers, in the dark, and her words bleed straight into the empty places in Jeremy’s heart.

When they laid Riko’s body to rest, the only thing Jean could think about was Kevin Day. Kevin Day, Castle Evermore, and the fragile blades of grass near his feet. He thought he must’ve been imagining their brightness, the absolute intensity of the iridescent neon bright fucking green of them.
Riko was dead.

“The Ravens never scouted me,” said Jeremy. He was bouncing his leg under the table. “Didn’t you know why?”

Don’t panic. Call Kevin Day.
You have no idea what you’re getting into, making Jean Moreau a Trojan.
Jean has always been something of a black box. Whereas Riko Moriyama and Kevin Day spent so much of their childhoods at Evermore in the spotlight, the details of Jean Moreau’s personal life have been kept largely in the dark. In post-game interviews, he’s always blended into the monolith of Ravens standing behind Riko. But until Kevin called a couple weeks ago, you thought you at least had a general impression of Jean Moreau: an absolute nightmare of a backliner, with the ruthless ambition and arrogance expected of any Raven — especially one marked for Riko’s so-called Perfect Court.
The person waiting for you in baggage claim at LAX is like someone else entirely.
Do’s and don’ts for rehabilitating an ex-Raven, by Jeremy Knox.

“You think I’m joking.” Jean says it with a passive face, but the side of his mouth twitches when Jeremy dramatically puts his hands over his heart.
“I think we’re gonna get along just fine, Moreau,” he says in a lighthearted way that tells Jean that he hasn’t really even doubted it. He should.“You’re pronouncing my name wrong.”
“For that, I’m naming you my official French tutor this year,” Jeremy grins.

Jean blinked. Blinked again. Was sure he didn’t recognize the man on his doorstep, with his bright eyes and enormous grin and wavy blonde hair. Waited for him to explain himself with a simple raised eyebrow.
“Hi!” the man finally chirped. The sound was happiness channeled into a single word, and Jean wasn’t sure how he didn’t hate him already.

What if Kevin kept sending postcards once Jean was with the Trojans?
maybe some creature in his chest was worming it’s way out, baring its ugliness to the world. Maybe there was nothing he could do about it but speak.
“I don’t think anything I’ve ever done can be called love,” Jean said, pointedly looking away from Jeremy to avoid the pity he knew would reach his eyes, “It can only be called obsession.” Whatever desire had graced him at the sight of that beautiful boy in the nest, it was ugly and it was desperate, not because of what it was, but because it came from him.
Jeremy didn’t try to meet his gaze, instead he hummed in thought. He leaned his head to Jean’s shoulder, the blond bedhead tickling the underside of his jaw.
“I think everything you do is out of love Jean Moreau. I hope one day you can see that.” -

The world slowly stabilized around him. The walls were not black, but painted white. The floors had gray linoleum tiles, and a huge puddle of spilled coffee. Oh. Jean was in California, in the school dining hall, because he made a stupid impulse decision and did not know when to give it up, and thought that he could just get a job, and make money, and maybe be normal. Jean was about to learn what happened to people who fucked up at their jobs.
OR
Jean needs money, so he gets a job working at the school dining hall. It’s a lot to manage work, exy, class, and a social life. But maybe this independence is what Jean needs in his life.

Summary
Every selfish molecule in Jeremy's body is screaming at him to say no, because he never wants to see Jean Moreau again, but he cannot let his personal pain dictate this decision. Objectively, Jean Moreau is the best backliner the sport has ever seen, and with him on their line the Trojans could finally win a championship. Less objectively, he knows more about the Nest than Kevin thinks he does, and he does not want to know how injured Jean has to be to actually warrant dismissal, considering what he knows he has played through.
Jean deserves to get out of there, and if Kevin thinks that this is the only way to get him out, then Jeremy has to agree.
Even if it breaks him in the process.

He sips his coffee, slowly coming to his senses, and stares at Jeremy’s back. It takes a couple of minutes of thorough inspection when something in Jean’s mind clicks, and he stills completely with the cup brought halfway to his lips.
The shirt Jeremy is wearing seems too loose. It doesn’t hug his back as his shirts usually do, and Jean can’t see the fabric fighting for its life between his shoulder blades. It isn’t snug enough around his sides. The sleeves are too long. Jean’s gaze slips further down, to the hem of the shirt. It hangs too low. It’s plain and white and looks a bit too worn out to be new.
Which can only mean one thing.
Or: Jean Moreau unexpectedly loves to see his closest people wearing his clothes (and has a heart attack when it's Jeremy).

A no-longer bruised but still battered Jean Moreau arrives in Los Angeles to join the USC Trojans' exy team, numb and worn and unwilling. Of course, that just won't do for his new roommate and captain, Jeremy Knox, even if he has his own trials to overcome in his final year before going pro.
This is their story of learning, of growing and breaking, and mending stronger in the end.

Jean knew, distantly, that California was prone to earthquakes. But knowing and experiencing are two different things, and while he’s become accustomed to the sensation of the rug being pulled out from under him, he is very much unaccustomed to the literal Earth shaking beneath his feet.
Or, Jean gets a lot of magnets; California gets a lot of earthquakes.

Jean was eyeing him thoughtfully. “Unless you want to hang out?” he asked. “My roommate is at his boyfriend’s.”
The word echoed like a gong in Jeremy’s head. Whatever was going on with his expression made Jean frown. “I’m not gay,” he clarified.
“I know, me neither,” Jeremy said, quickly.
