Xiao was everywhere and in everything. Venti’s once beautiful love—taken in the blink of an eye. And as the years passed, his hope for reunion slowly dissipated.
But then he saw him again. Though sharper, colder, and much more dark than his Xiao, it was still him. However, five years was a lot of time, and Xiao’s mind was broken. He didn’t remember Venti and the life he swore they had together.
All he knew now was how to kill, and how to do it without getting caught.

The boy flinches at Kazuha’s voice, almost as if he doesn’t believe his words. His long, midnight hair scatters over his shoulders as he looks to the side, then firmly announces, “My name is Kunikuzushi, human child. And I am the god of this mountain.”
Kazuha sputters. “Eh?”
Like wisteria growing under his skin, that lonesome cottage has always been there, lingering in the back of his mind. Kazuha’s fate was planned from the beginning—take over the family trade, and live out the rest of his days in quiet solitude.

To the right, there was no one. To the left, no one. So, Venti used his very last resort.
Reaching over the counter, he took Xiao's hand into his, pulled him uncomfortably close, and grinned.
“He’s right here,” he lied. “Xiao’s my boyfriend.”
…
“Huh?”
They had an agreement: for six months, Xiao would pretend to be Venti’s boyfriend to get a stalker off his back. In return, Venti would grant him any favor he wanted—no questions asked. Once their time was up, they’d part ways and never speak again.
It was supposed to be no strings attached. But with every day spent “pretending” with Xiao, Venti could feel his resolve slipping.
Was he in over his head? Definitely. But a little fun never hurt anybody…
