Chapter 15: 17-20 years old: Jump Ahead

Summary:

Weddings and peace.

Before the next generation.

Chapter Text

It's almost a year after the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Hatake Kakashi officially becomes the Rokudaime Hokage!

Uzumaki Naruto officially becomes a Chuunin! Going to Jounin! And Rokudaime Hokage's apprentice!

The progress of rebuilding Konohagakure no Sato to be better and greater is going along nicely.

I contribute to the creation of a shopping mall!!

I am really proud of my, arguably only, achievement in Elemental Nation.

Also, I have moved to Kirigakure no Sato for a few months following Tou-san, because he is designated as the ambassador. Normally, I don't need to go, following Tou-san's mission. Mei-san extends an invitation to me because she wants to talk, so I pack and leave, following Tou-san.

The matter about the talk is about Mei-san and Tou-san's relationship plus Kirigakure no Sato's renovation. I guess my name will be written in Kirigakure's history as a contributor.

It is humbling to know that Mei-san and Kirigakure no Sato appreciate my ideas.

+

Entering the second year, big things happen.

By then, I have returned to Konohagakure no Sato.

"It's been, like, two years already," I groan out loud, in the comfort of my home, "You told her to wait, for how long, exactly?"

"Soon," Naruto's reply is muffled because he is busy stuffing his mouth with food. After swallowing, "I think I get it now,"

Get what, I do not ask. We are talking about feelings . Even if I ask and Naruto explains, I probably won't understand. His perspective, that is.

After finishing dinner, Naruto sends a Kage Bunshin to wash the dishes while we migrate to the living room.

"So," Naruto clears his throat, his face reddening slightly, "I plan to ask Hinata-chan out,"

"A date!" Kage Bunshin crows cheerfully from the kitchen

"Shut up!" Naruto snaps, face flaming, "You are not allowed to open your mouth!"

I grin as I hear Kage Bunshin's snicker. Naruto refuses to look at me, with his face still red. He doesn't stop to ask, "How to plan... that ?"

I cross my arms and think about it seriously. I really have no idea. No experience, whatsoever. But, "Tou-san and Mei-san do dinner or lunch or taking a walk together as a date,"

Naruto nods his head seriously, "And then?"

"Generally, because they are respectively busy, just by spending time together is already considered a date," until now, their status still hasn't changed. It won't be long though. Mei-san wants to finish setting the foundation first before letting her successor takes over as Rokudaime Mizukage. To make things easy for him, the successor.

"Hmm," Naruto crosses his arms and tilts his head, "Hinata-chan and I do spend time together sometimes. Just hanging out when we don't have missions or training,"

"In that case," I start and stop. I restart, "In that case, you just need to ask Hinata to hang out again. For dinner. At a romantic restaurant. Maybe??"

Naruto wets his lips, nervously, "A dinner at a romantic restaurant? That's all?"

"And confess, I guess," I shrug, "Honestly, no matter whose relationships I see or how many romance-genre books I read, I really don't know how to properly set and go to a date," staring at Naruto flatly, I remind him, "Everything that can go wrong will go wrong, no matter how prepared you are,"

"Sound like you are jinxing me," Naruto mutters, rolling his eyes

"Oh!" I recall something important, "Ramen Ichiraku is not a romantic restaurant!"

"I know that much, Kiseki!" Naruto exclaims, exasperated, "While Hinata-chan likes Ichiraku's ramen too, I know it's not the place for something important like this,"

I can't help it. I laugh.

Naruto grumbles, "Anyway, do I tell Hinata-chan to meet me there or tell her I am bringing her out, on a date?"

"Tell her it's a date. Then, go to fetch her from her home," I give a nasty grin, "Face the men in Hinata's life first, before taking her out,"

Naruto shudders and hyperventilates. While Neji won't be as deadly as he was before his injury from the war, Neji still can be lethal . Not to mention Hinata's Father. Good luck, Naruto!

"Set a time and place and then tell Hinata you are taking her out, this time, it's officially a date," I release a peal of giddy laughter, "Since you have decided on doing this, don't back out at the last minute, you hear!"

+

Naruto and Hinata's dinner concludes excellently.

What happened afterwards is not okay at all.

What can go wrong does go wrong.

When Naruto and Hinata walk to the park after their dinner date, for Naruto's confession, someone appears and ruins their date. Literally. Via a meteor crash. Outside the village. Thankfully.

But then, it's found out that Hinata's Younger Sister, Hyuuga Hanabi, is kidnapped by that person too.

I privately pity Naruto and Hinata for having such a bad first date. And it's not even their fault!

With Naruto, Hinata, Sakura, Sai, and Shikamaru deployed by Rokudame Hokage to rescue Hyuuga Hanabi, I become someone who has nothing to do.

I mean, I am jobless right now.

Maybe I should find a job. Or a hobby.

"You sure are carefree," Ino snorts at me, gracefully, "The end of mankind is approaching, you know,"

I look up at the blue sky, recalling the night before and the giant moon that is the end of mankind, then look down at the unconcerned girl in front of me, and say, "I know,"

Ino turns up her nose at me, "I don't want to say I envy you, but I think I envy you," after rolling her eyes at my supposed carefreeness, Ino sighs forlornly, "Knowing nothing more can be done to save the world, sucks,"

"On the contrary," I point a finger at her, "You can do more . Protecting us, for example,"

Ino tilts her head, "What do you mean? By doing missions?"

I shake my head, trailing my gaze away and accidentally spy Tenten. I raise a hand and shout her name, asking her to join us if she is free. Once Tenten stands before us, Ino nudges me, "What do you mean? Explain!"

"It's not a secret that Hokage, and Mizukage, are tense. It means something big, end of mankind big, will happen," I recount my knowledge from observing the leaders, "There is no way any of you will go down without a fight,"

Tenten catches on quickly, "Are you saying, not only the people sent to the moon, we will get the chance to fight too?"

I give a confident nod, "If you aren't fighting people, then you are definitely fighting the moon,"

"It's a crazy nonsense," Ino releases a defeated sigh, "It's a possibly not so crazy nonsense,"

Tenten muses calmly, "Where do I sign up?"

+

Meteorites are not a moon, but it is still something we have to fight and defend against. By we, I mean the Ninjas.

Victory is in Naruto's hands. With the help of Kyuubi no Kitsune, by the name of Kurama.

I feel gratified that Naruto and Hinata come back officially as a couple. Like I said before, 'love blooms on the battlefield'. In their case, though, it's a long affair waiting to happen.

"When things were falling apart, when everyone was evacuating, when despair dominated us. You , alone, were sitting at the balcony and gazing at the moon. Do you not have self-preservation?"

I am not sure how to respond to that.

With Neji taking charge, the rest of Konoha 11 surrounds me.

It seems like Neji doesn't like what he saw using Byakugan. Last night. Of me. At my house.

"I mean," I trail my eyes to gaze at others who are not amused too, "If the moon crashed, then it's the end for us. No matter how or where we hide," inhaling deeply, I feebly mutter the next part, "The crash would have cracked the Earth anyway,"

"Before the moon, what if the meteorites got you first?" Ino makes a noise of disapproval

I gesture at the area where my house still stood. Perfectly intact. Not even blemished.

"You are so strange, Kiseki," Naruto cracks, laughing up a storm

I also have no idea how to respond to that, so I just raise my arms and shrug.

"Let's tell Mitsutada-san," Shikamaru suggests, to my growing horror, "He will talk to Kiseki. I'm sure,"

With this consensus, not allowing me to stop them, Konoha 11 moves to find Tou-san.

+

Before 'the end of mankind crisis averted' the first anniversary, Mei-san snaps.

It's been three years. Mei-san thinks she has waited long enough. It helps that her successor is capable of holding the mantle of Mizukage now.

So, Mei-san gets to hold the wedding she wants. In Kirigakure no Sato.

Tou-san and I don't mind that. We respect Kirigakure and Mei-san's effort in turning the village for the better.

Tou-san and Mei-san will periodically move between villages for their living arrangement. I, as stated before, stay in Konoha.

The wedding is not the traditional kind. The wedding is held in a building resembling a church. The bride's gown is white and the bride also holds a bouquet of beautiful flowers.

I blinked at the plan when I saw it. I had no idea Elemental Nation, which I know to be based on previous life's Japan Country, does hold a western-style wedding.

The wedding progresses smoothly.

Naruto is present because he is the Mitsutada family's honourable Son. Hinata is also present, invited as Naruto's date.

At the part when Mei-san, I am not changing the way I call her, throws the wedding bouquet for the lucky girl, Hinata inadvertently catches it.

I clap along with others as Hinata blushes brightly in embarrassment for her catch. I see Naruto looking thoughtful. When he catches my gaze, Naruto tilts his head and mouths, "Should I?"

"Up to you," I mouth back, having an idea of what Naruto is asking

+

True enough. Naruto proposes to Hinata.

On their first anniversary.

+

Mei-san has not actually stepped down as Godaime Mizukage. She just gives most work to her successor.

She tells me, with simple terms, that just from all five Kage meetings, the list of gifts for Naruto and Hinata exceeds her wedding gifts.

Mei-san rolls her eyes and mutters about Naruto entrancing too many people's hearts.

I know that Mei-san also gives more than what she received from Naruto and Hinata combined. I just smile as I listen to Mei-san grumbles about this and that.

+

Naruto and Hinata's wedding reception is nice. They officially hold a traditional wedding, by Hyuuga's standard, and a casual gathering for friends.

Delegations from all over the Lands attend the gathering. It's a cheerful and noisy and crowded wedding.

Everyone wishes Naruto and Hinata a happy marriage life. Me too.

+

"Sasuke-teme didn't attend my wedding," Naruto grumbles to me, a week after his wedding and honeymoon

Hinata sends an apologetic look over Naruto's shoulder for crashing my home so early in the morning.

"Did he visit you after the wedding? Send you a wedding gift? Or no news from him at all?" I voice these sentences in a stable manner

"No news at all!" Naruto throws his arms up and huffs, "Sakura-chan is so disappointed!"

I hum in response. Leaving the sofa, I ask them, "Have you eaten breakfast?"

"We have," Hinata replies

"I still can eat though, if you are treating," Naruto immediately says

I look at them consideringly. Nodding, I go back to my room for a change of clothes and to grab my wallet. When I return to the living room, Naruto and Hinata are already waiting by the door.

I roll my eyes at Naruto, who grins cheekily back at me. Hinata has a soft smile on her face.

"When are you taking over the hat?" I casually ask Naruto as I walk over to them

"Soon," Naruto replies with confidence

"Hokage-sama also wants to quickly hand over the hat," Hinata says with a giggle, as Naruto nods sagely and adds, "Kakashi-sensei has had enough of being a Hokage,"

I laugh at the gossip. Shaking my head, lips forming a smirk, I allow, "It's because of the paperwork, isn't it?"

Naruto nods empathetically, "Fortunately, I already have an idea on what to do when I take over the hat, the office, and the paperwork,"

The three of us know, Naruto will use Kage Bunshin to do most of the work!

I usher them out from the door, because we have stopped there to gossip, and say, "Since I am treating, I will pick the place to eat," stepping out from home, I smile and suggest, "Let's go to Riri's Restaurant,"

"Yosh!" Naruto cheers goodnaturedly while Hinata nods along

With Naruto and Hinata taking lead, I leisurely walk behind them to watch the two and the village, feeling fond and grateful to have managed to survive with best friends by my side.
