Work Text:
UA has its own private forum.
He briefly sees it in passing whenever UA sends them an email. It's written below, along with the school's other contact information, but isn't something Izuku has paid any attention to.
While he does use forums and other social media platforms frequently to both collect and share information about heroes, UA's forums are mostly filled with random discussions. It contains topics such as suggestions for certain requirements, requests, and other related subjects that he isn't really interested in.
He doesn't know why he never bothered exploring it to see if there's something that will intrigue him. Perhaps it's because he already has various forums that he uses daily, or maybe because he's put his focus on becoming a hero that it escaped his thoughts.
This time, however, it's different.
He's finally gotten around to actually checking out the forum, when he stumbled upon a subchannel that's about the former and current UA Hero Course students. It's only accessible by those involved in the hero industry that are also from UA, which is very fascinating.
Opening it is an entirely new world. There isn't as much discussions as the other public forums, but there's still a lot.
Entries regarding daily life, advices, and important topics are written by their seniors and pro-heroes themselves. Multiple heroes are active here, and he regrets missing out on this.
He can only think of the amount of information he could've gathered the moment he stepped into UA.
Leaving no room for regrets, he immediately scrolls through the forum. With a notebook and pen in hand, he spends hours listing down anything helpful.
Then, he filters the posts, and finds himself browsing the conversations regarding their recent Sports Festival. There are a lot about them, actually – it seems like pro-heroes are on the lookout for promising talents.
He pauses when he sees a familiar name.

Izuku stares at it for a while, happy at the fact that Uraraka is receiving the recognition she deserves. She's an amazing friend, and he knows that she's going to go far.
But also... they're asking about her and her quirk. That's something that he knows.
He's going to answer it, probably. Though, of course, he's going to leave out a few important details, like he always does for the other pro-heroes in public forums.
Other than that, he can answer this.
Comment as mightandspite
Not going to go very in-depth for safety purposes, but Uraraka's quirk, Zero Gravity, literally means that the target will not be affected by gravity. (Sorry - will be skipping its activation requirements!) The recorded limit of this is infinity - unless she releases the target from her quirk's effect, it will continue to float indefinitely. So, yes, she can send her targets to space if she so wishes.
Of course, those are just the basics. Her quirk has many uses! And though it can be used for various fields, I will be focusing solely on its applications and uses for heroics. Specifically, I will be discussing about these three: combat, rescue, and defense.
First off - combat...
The next day, he finds Uraraka in a good mood.
She's humming happily to herself, even skipping as she meets them in the common room. Kaminari and Ashido greets her instantly, seemingly just as excited as she is.
"Did you see?" Kaminari questions. Uraraka's expression brightens.
"Yeah! I want to cry – they actually talked about me!"
He doesn't know what's happening. Still, he listens to their conversation.
"Congrats!" Ashido greets. "I read their message, and it was really nice!"
Asui places a finger on her chin. "I never knew that the resident analyst is in UA."
"I know right? Imagine meeting them – they're literally a cryptid icon, it's so cool!" Kirishima grins, clenching his hand into a fist as if to prove his point.
"Deku, Deku," Uraraka excitedly calls, nudging his side as they go out of their dorms and head to the main building. "Do you know about the resident analyst?"
He furrows his brows in confusion. It's the first time he's hearing of that.
"Oh, sorry! I don't really..." he trails off, and Uraraka gapes before nodding understandingly.
"That's fine! Though, I'm actually surprised – I thought you of all people would know about them."
He blinks, because he can't believe he missed it either. "Yeah. I'll search about it later, maybe."
"Alright!" Uraraka exclaims. Then quietly, "you know, their message really means a lot to me."
His expression softens. Seeing his friend so happy really warms his heart.
However, Izuku still can't find what she was talking about.
It's the first thing he does once they return to their dorms. He immediately opens his laptop and searches the forum for it, but no matter what he looks up, he can't find it.
He does find some of the analysis he's posted, but aside from that, there are no results for the "Resident Analyst".
Curiosity blooms in his mind, but he simply lets out a sigh. Maybe he'll just ask Uraraka tomorrow about it, not really wanting to bother her today just for that.
He still has a lot to do, anyway.
Being in the mood for some analysis, he pulls out his hero analysis notebook and once again scrolls through the site. He specifically searches for analysis requests, which he finds a lot of people asking for today. He doesn't think there's been this much posts about it yesterday, but not that he minds.
It just means that he has more information to process, which is fun.

I would like to request for an analysis regarding my quirk and overall combat technique. However, I'd prefer if details about myself would be given through a private conversation, rather than listing it down online.

He goes through the thread, choosing to answer a few. He can't really respond to all 800 comments – which he really feels bad about, both because he wants to analyze and wants to help no matter how little – but it's not like they're specifically asking him for the analysis anyway.
With this being a forum open to everyone even remotely related to the hero industry, he knows that there are countless analysts active here.
He starts messaging a few of those in the thread, though not everyone is replying yet. They must be working, considering the time.
There are still plenty of people who messaged him back, fortunately. Like the one he's currently talking to – user conspirasee.

Hello! You were requesting for an analysis, right?
conspirasee
yes, i did say that
but before that, may i ask if you are the real mightandspite?
Izuku hesitates. Is there someone else using his name? Did he accidentally use an existing username? But he's had this for years, so that can't be the case.
mightandspite
Sorry, I don't know any other mightandspite so uh. I hope so?
But anyway. uhm, about your quirk?
conspirasee
i see. interesting
i'm Todoroki Shouto
Izuku stares.
In retrospect, he really should've expected this. This is a private forum, after all. Still, he's just surprised that he's encountering a friend, of all people.
Should he tell him? But, no – he can't reveal his identity. That would be so embarrassing for him; no one knows that he's doing this stuff online, and despite them knowing about his analysis, this is just... too personal.
What has he gotten himself into?
With a sigh, he continues chatting him again.

Oh
uh yeah, i know about your quirks, and you have great control over them. you still need to get used to using your fire, but i think you're already doing amazing with the way you use it in terms of long range fighting. so, i would like to focus on how you can use it in short range battle and your overall combat technique, if that's okay?
conspirasee
sure
mightandspite
okay so... quirk-wise, you should try using your quirks suitable for close combat. Like, even covering your fists with fire or ice can make a difference. I also think you should work on your fighting skills beyond your quirks. There will be instances where you're unable to use them, so you need to be prepared for that. I suggest learning martial arts. And once you have a great grasp of it, you can gradually integrate your quirk for - as mentioned above - a more effective and powerful fighting style.
conspirasee
I... never thought of that
I'll try it, thank you
Do you have anything else to add?
mightandspite
THANK YOU for asking
bc yell heah i do
hold on, let me grab my 20 pages analysis,

wait what—
He ends up talking to more people than he expected to. Granted, weekend means that he has much more free time. Still, he didn't expect everyone's enthusiasm when responding back to him.
He actually searched for his other classmates in the thread – he was only able to contact those who mentioned their quirks in the forum, though. Having a lot of data about them, he wanted to share it with them without the anxiety of outright talking to them.
So far, he managed to talk to Tokoyami, Aoyama, and Kirishima. He's actually surprised that so many of them are looking for quirk analysis – just what has he been missing out on?
Anyway, Monday.
His curiosity gets the better of him, and he finally decides to ask for a link the moment he wakes up.

"Good morning!" He greets as he slides the door open, and with him a few more others entering the room. He's greeted back by his classmates as he takes his seat, and they're almost ready to jump into a conversation but Aizawa chooses that moment to enter the room.
Todoroki raises a hand before Aizawa can even give his morning greeting, eyes filled with determination. Their teacher raises a brow, clearly surprised, and gestures at him to continue.
"Will we get more quirkless sparring in the future?"
Silence.
Aizawa stares, assessing him, before asking, "what brought this on?"
Todoroki shrugs. "The resident analyst suggested it."
That gains everyone's attention, except Kacchan who doesn't really care.
"Oh yeah, sensei, did you know that the resident analyst is in UA?"
"Do you know who it is? Can you give us a hint?"
And there comes a flood of questions. Aizawa, clearly not having enough coffee for the chaos, activates his quirk.
Instantly, everyone goes quiet.
"Yes, Todoroki, we are considering it." Aizawa informs them, exhaustion weaving in his tone. "As for the resident analyst, I know of them and have gotten an analysis from them before myself. Though, them being in UA is unexpected, even for us."
Izuku remembers sending Eraserhead a message through an underground forum before. He wonders if their teacher read his analysis, too.
But beyond that, even the teachers know of the analyst. They must be really good with what they do, considering that they seem to have gathered a large amount of respect despite them not knowing of their identity.
"Moving forward," Aizawa drops his things on the desk, signaling the start of the class, to others' disappointment. "I have a few reminders today..."
Throughout the discussion, everyone's mind is filled with the thoughts of the cryptid.
He stares at his screen, dumbfounded.
Break time has come, meaning that he finally has time to check the infamous resident analyst. So, he immediately pulled out his phone and checked the links they sent in the group chat.
But he doesn't know why he's looking at the compilation of his own analysis.
"Uraraka," he calls, pointedly looking away from the truth. "Did you send me the wrong link?"
She furrows her brows and checks his phone, before shaking her head. "Nope, that's the resident analyst!"
They must have confused him with someone else.
He nods, still baffled, and checks Kaminari's link. He goes through all the social media accounts included in it, and almost faints.
When has he gotten so many followers? How did this happen? Why has he not noticed?
He switches to his messaging app, and floods someone's inbox.

He returns to staring at his accounts, and with a sigh he checks the UA forum. He quickly searches about "mightandspite", doubting that anything will appear.
But of course, because life hates him, dozens of results show up.
He really doesn't know how he didn't realize sooner.

He finds their concern for his privacy heartwarming but, at the same time, it's not really the reason why they know nothing about him. It's just that – he never knew what was going on beyond his analysis. And even now, he finds this hard to believe.
"Deku, are you okay?" Uraraka asks, concern written all over her face. He must have been staring at his phone for a while now, which is rather unsurprising considering what he's just found out.
"Of course!" He forces a smile. "I'm just – yeah. In awe, of the resident analyst."
Her expression brightens, and she nods in agreement. He kind of wants the ground to swallow him, unable to deal with the fact that they actually like his analysis.
"They are incredible," Iida adds in, and Izuku wants to cry. "Their skill is on par with professionals – I would think they are one, if it weren't for their note saying that they aren't."
"Yeah, dude!" Kirishima says from the table beside them, and he sees Kacchan grinning like the traitor he is. "They really helped me out, I have so many ideas I want to try now!"
Izuku clasps his hands together, melting from all the compliments. He's not sure how to reply, really. He just said what he had in mind – he didn't expect it to have any impact.
All the way back to their room, they talk about him. Izuku maintains a smile on his face, not wanting others to think that something's wrong.
Looks like there's no need for pretense though, because upon their arrival, Kacchan immediately stands in front. He lets out a burst of explosions, and gathers the class' attention.
"Usually I wouldn't bother because I don't really care," Izuku stares at him, horrified, unable to move. "But it's just so fucking funny and I couldn't pass up the chance."
What a kind person you are, he wants to shout. Instead, he just ducks his head and pretends he has Hagakure's quirk.
He did ask Kacchan to tell the class, but he didn't expect him to do it now.
"What's going on?" Aizawa questions as he slides the door open. Izuku groans, embarrassed, while Kacchan's grin widens.
"Sensei, wanna guess who the resident analyst is?"
That's it. He's changing his name, leaving this city and country behind.
Aizawa raises a brow at that. "Intriguing, you know who they are?"
Kacchan shrugs, "wouldn't ask that if I didn't."
"Just because you know them doesn't mean we do."
"You do know them," Kacchan scoffs. "What, you think I'd make you guess if you haven't met them?"
By this time, Class 1-A is already excitedly screaming. They're shouting random names from different classes, and he even hears Shinsou's name in the midst of the chaos. Kacchan looks so disappointed, that is, until Jirou speaks up.
"Wouldn't it be funny," she says, grinning as if she finds her own statement hilarious. "If it ended up being Midoriya and he just had no idea it was him this entire time?"
The class quiets down, and there's only silence. Izuku tries to make himself smaller, willing himself to disappear.
A beat.
Kacchan bursts out laughing, and Izuku shoots him a glare, face heating up in embarrassment.
"Please shut up," he says, covering his face with his palms. "What did I do in my past life to deserve this?"
Kacchan is slamming the teacher's desk now out of laughter. "Can you believe him? A whole decade and he had no idea."
"It wasn't a decade!" He protests. "It was just around eight years!"
It takes a while for the class to process what they're talking about, but once they do, it's nothing but chaos.
"I'm right? How is that right? I was literally joking?"
"Dude? Eight years? How did you not know—"
"The resident analyst is Midori? I should've expected it but I'm still mind-blown, what?"
"How did we not connect the dots? Midori is such an obvious answer, he's never even tried to hide it!"
"That's you, Deku? Wow, I'm friends with a legend. An icon. My life is fulfilled."
Izuku glances at Aizawa, pleading for help, but his teacher seems to be just as stunned as the rest of the class. Realizing that, he simply settles on glaring at Kacchan.
"You're welcome, nerd." Kacchan tells him smugly as he takes his seat.
He returns to hiding his face in his palms, already questioning his life decisions.
