Summary
Bella Swan died in the spring, in that clearing full of wildflowers. It was, as promised, a quick death with as little pain as possible.
Edward first saw her in the summer.
She was paler than he remembered, almost transparent, though her eyes were perfectly dark and opaque.
He was about to call out to her, to ask her how she’d found him, how she’d snuck up on him. But between one blink and the next, she’d disappeared.
He kept seeing flashes of her, the barest glimpses of the girl he’d left behind. He didn’t understand why she kept appearing to him like some half-baked hallucination. How could he? He still didn’t know of the fate that befell Bella Swan.
It was fall by the time Alice thought to check in on Bella. She’s been hoping to find Bella happier than when the Cullen’s had left her. She wasn’t expecting to find her gravestone instead -
