Chapter Text
“I never thought I’d be the type of person who has a restraining order against someone else.” Peter rolled his eyes coming into the kitchen,
“You don’t think that’s a bit much?”
“No.” Pepper, May, and Tony all said at the same time.
“Okay. Good talk.” Peter snatched an orange from the fruit bowl on the counter.
Peter went to go finish getting ready for school.
~
“Hi Dad.” Peter got into his car after school.
“Hi Roo.” Tony pulled out into traffic, “You want to stop for a snack or just go straight to the tower?”
“Home. I want to go home.” Peter laid his head against the headrest closing his eyes.
“You okay?” Tony glanced at his kid while at a stop sign.
“Fine.” Peter mumbled.
“Pete. You can talk to me. I can’t fix it if you don’t talk to me.”
There was a honk from the person behind them.
“Dad, I’m fine. Drive.” Peter said without even opening his eyes, “I’m just tired. It was a long day.”
Tony rolled forward, “Fine but if you were having a tough day I’d consider stopping for a milkshake.”
Peter opened his eyes, “I still want to go home. I think I just want to lay down for a bit if that’s okay?”
Tony reached out a hand to feel for a fever and Peter pushed his hand away, “I’m trying to see if you’re sick.”
“I’m not! You; however, are impossible!” Peter laughed, “People get tired.”
“I suppose.” Tony finally let the kid be.
~
“He called the tower home.” Tony told May on the phone while Peter was laying down in his room. The smile hadn’t left his lips the whole conversation.
“Remember when he found out you were his dad and he punched you and now it’s just full acceptance?” May was also smiling, “Who would have know way back then how this would play out.”
“I always knew he’d come around.”
“Yeah, right.” May laughed, “You were terrified.”
“You might be right about that. Thankfully Rhodey and Happy had him covered when he wasn’t even speaking to us.”
“He’s got the best family.” May said sincerely.
“It was worth it—The sore jaw. To get to this place. I love being his dad.” Tony would go through it all again to get to this point with his son.
~
Peter came out to the living room and snuggled next to Pepper on the couch who hugged him close.
“You good?” Pepper kissed the side of his head.
“Just didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.” Peter yawned, “But didn’t want to nap too long and not sleep again tonight.”
“Good plan. We don’t need you matching your dad’s sleep schedule.” Pepper teased.
“There is nothing wrong with my sleep schedule.” Tony said coming into the room.”
Pepper and Peter laughed.
~
May had joined them for dinner and everyone was swapping stories about their day, “So without going into too much details—This person was walking down the hallway and legit shit the whole way the hall all over the floor.”
Peter was laughing so hard tears were rolling down his cheeks, “A patient?”
“No. They were just visiting.” May laughed.
“You’re making this up.” Pepper was laughing.
“You can’t make this stuff up.” May took a bite of broccoli.
“I pity the person that had to clean it.” Tony shook his head.
Peter glanced around at his family. His whole family. He remembered a time when he was wishing for something like this.
~
Ned was sleeping on the bottom bunk in Peter’s room in his and May’s apartment, “That dude bother you at all lately?”
“No.” Peter said from the top bunk, “I think Bucky scared him off last week.”
“I’d be scared if Bucky threatened me.” Ned pulled the covers over his shoulders.
“Ned?” Peter said softly.
“Yeah?”
“You’re my best friend, okay? No matter what. I don’t care if I’m Peter Parker or Peter Parker-Stark.” Peter had people constantly texting him trying to move into his life now that they knew he was related to Tony Stark. He wasn’t against making new friends but he never wanted to forget where he came from.
“Forever.” Ned promised.
~
“STOP!”
Peter stopped his rush up to his parents offices at SI when security told him too.
“We walk and say hello to people, Peter.” The security guard teased.
Peter grinned at the redhead, “Hi Asa.”
“No friends today?” He glanced behind Peter.
“No. I have a lot of homework to do today. I figured I’d focus better here without distractions.” Peter waved at one of the interns as they were walking by.
“Better head up then.” Asa stepped out of the way.
“See you later!” Peter smiled as he headed upstairs.
Peter didn’t knock before walking into Tony’s office, “Dad, I have this paper due. We both know I’m better at science than writing. I was hoping to pick your brain on it. If you’re busy then no pressure though. Don’t even worry about it.”
Tony cleared his throat.
Peter grinned, “Uncle Rhodey! You’re home!”
Rhodey stood up to hug his nephew, “How’s my favorite teenager? Besides bad at English.”
“I’m not bad at it. It’s just not my strength.” Peter rolled his eyes.
“Is that why I’ve helped with your last three papers?” Tony asked.
“Just a little proof reading.” Peter whined.
“We’re teasing, Bub.” Tony reassured.
“So you’ll help?” Peter asked again.
“I would love that.” Tony shut his own laptop to give his son his attention, “And then we can go get a snack with Rhodey and he can tell us everything about his life we missed. He was just telling me he went on a date with this girl.”
Peter’s jaw dropped, “You’re joking? Is she smart? Kind? A good person?”
“Your friendship with MJ is screaming. You didn’t even ask if she’s pretty.” Rhodey teased.
“I would have gotten there too.” Peter crossed his arms over his chest.
“I like that it wasn’t your first question. She would have loved it too. She is smart, kind, and I think a good person. We went on one date.” Rhodey sat down again and Peter took the chair next to him.
“I want to know everything.”
“After homework.” Tony reminded.
“Daddddd.” Peter whined.
“That’s my name. Don’t wear it out.”
