Chapter 6: We're immortal, Tubbo.

Notes:

This would’ve been out earlier, had my friend not been deleting everything as I typed. I may have had it coming though, as I did delete her calculator work. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT THOUGH. (“No it wasn’t” - she typed). I also calculated how old Phil would roughly be in this, and my friend, who I do not think knows of the oldza jokes wrote (they weren’t talking, they were writing it down on a piece of paper) “that’s old”. I am proud. Wait. No. Not proud. She just drew a guy jumping off a cliff and wrote “physics at work”. Wait, no, she changed it to a 2m cliff and a lego character, with water at the end.

I'd also like to apologize for how dialogue-heavy this chapter is, but I needed the explanation. Anyway, this is the final chapter of this fic (the tags have been changed accordingly, I'd make sure you're good with them, but it's nothing detailed, just little references). But, there will be other fics in this series!

Anyway, enjoy!

Chapter Text

“Tubbo,” Technoblade’s voice rang out, causing Tubbo to freeze where he stood.

He turned, and panic started to flood his body. Wilbur. Tommy. The axe. “Techno! Techno, Will’s going to kill Tommy-! We..we need to go out and stop him before he does, and-and I-”

“Tubbo,” Techno cut off. “Wilbur’s not going to kill Tommy.”

Tubbo stopped and his brow creased, “then-then why did he take a fucking axe out with them?”

“Tubbo-”

“Tech, don’t even bother,” Phil spoke, emerging from behind. “We can trust him.”

“What?” Tubbo questioned to nobody in particular. What the fuck was going on?

“Are you sure?”

“He was listening in to Wil and I’s conversation this morning.” Phil’s eyes turned on him. “He knows a lot already.”

“What do I know?” Tubbo started again, “guys, Tommy’s-”

They didn’t listen. “So, we can tell him?”

“We can, Techno.”

Tubbo gave up, yelling out to the two of them, “what the fuck are you guys talking about?”

Technoblade’s stoic face faced him, “we’re immortal, Tubbo.”

The colour drained from Tubbo’s face. What?

Phil laughed, “that’s one way of putting it.”

“You’re lying,” Tubbo accused.

“We aren’t, mate. Tech, Wil, Tommy and I are all immortal,” Phil clarified.

“What?”

Techno sighed, “Wil can’t kill Tommy, Tubbo, because he’s immortal.” He turned back to Phil. “We have a while until Wil gets back, shall we head back to the living room and tell him the whole story?”

Nodding Phil spoke, “yeah, let’s do that. Tubbo, all you need to know right now is that Tommy will be perfectly fine.”

Tubbo didn’t know why he was being so compliant. Tommy was out there with Wilbur and an axe, most likely being murdered and he was sat in a room with the possible accomplices claiming the three of them were immortal. After thinking it through, he had to admit this was one hell of a trip.

“So, what the fuck is going on?” Tubbo spat.

Techno clenched his jaw. “Phil? You know the story more than I do.”

“Right.” He sighed, “I was born a very, very long time ago. Not dinosaur age, but well, long enough ago that I could’ve participated in the ancient Olympic games. I was mortal, back then. Just like everybody else I knew. But, one day, when I was exploring this cave I…I fell. That’s when I met Death, or as you’ll know her Kristin-”

“Kristin as in your wife?”

“Yeah. That’s her. I can go to her realm for short periods of time, and she can come here for even shorter periods of time, that’s how you’ll know her.” He continued on with the story, “she saved me that day, and I fell in love. I’ll spare you the details, but eventually, she granted me immortality and the most gorgeous feather wings on Earth-”

“Don’t get carried away, dad.”

“Dad?”

“I’m getting there, Tubbo.” Phil explained, “a couple of centuries later, we had two children, Techno and Wil. Kristin and I didn’t know if they would be like me or if they would be mortal. So we raised them as if they would die at any moment.”

Tubbo stopped him. “You and Wilbur are Phil’s kids?”

“Tommy too,” Techno smiled, before adding to Phil’s story, “we didn’t see our mother very often, but we cherished the few times she was around.”

“That’s when we moved here,” Phil told him. “Obviously, it didn’t look like this at the time, it was a lot less grand then. But, it was our home. Of course, with me not knowing about Techno and Wil’s immortality, I wanted to create something I could remember them by, that’s what the forest was for. However, it now holds a lot more than just happy memories.”

A sombre look took place across Phil’s face, Tubbo hesitated, “what…what happened?”

“It’s where I first died,” Techno stated, simply.

“Oh.” Then, “wait, first died?”

Ignoring him, Techno continued, “I was in my early twenties at the time, and I was a lot more reckless than I am now. There were a group of thieves who had made their way onto our land and I decided to play hero.”

“Wil and I found him and thought he was dead, and he was. He had no pulse and he wasn’t breathing, he was a body. We thought we had lost him forever.”

“However, I had just managed to break the bounds of mortality and had ended up meeting mother in her own realm for once,” Technoblade explained, sounding proud.

“So you came back?” Tubbo inquired.

“Yes, I did.”

“I didn’t trust that the same would happen again, though, so I didn’t let it,” Phil started. “But then Wil…he challenged that, to say the least.”

“He wasn’t the most popular of people back then, and he was in fact tormented by a vast majority because he didn’t fit the stereotypes,” Techno proceeded, “Phil and I had wanted to protect him, but he…he didn’t want it.”

“He took his own life out in that forest, Tubbo.” Phil stared at him. “Not knowing if he would return, I don’t think he wanted to return.”

“But, he came back. That was his first of many death,” techno finished.

“Then Tommy came along, and he was like a mini Technoblade. Reckless, but yet trained. Again, we didn’t know if he would be immortal or not, so we didn’t want to risk it, but then one day he missed Kristin too much and he asked Wil to kill him.” He paused. “He did.”

Glancing between the two, Tubbo made the connections, “so, Wilbur is going to kill Tommy?”

Phil nodded, “he will.”

“And it’s not going to hurt?”

“Tech?”

Shaking his head, Techno responded, “I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you, Tubbo. It does hurt. It hurts like a bitch, but Tommy’s used to it.”

“He’ll come back, though?”

“He will”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

“Okay,” Tubbo breathed.

Techno glanced at him, “‘okay?’”

“I’m…I’m going to choose to believe you because I trust you.” Tubbos eyes hardened, eyes moving between the other two. “But, if Tommy doesn’t come back then you will be locked up for a very, very long time.”

Phil laughed, “I wouldn’t want you to do anything else.” After a moment, he asked, “do you want to head up to bed? Tommy will be gone a while, it’s not very often he gets to visit his mother.”

“Can you tell Tommy to come and see me when he gets back?”

“Yeah, I can do that.” He stopped, as if only just remembering something. “But, Tubbo, you cannot tell anyone what we told you today. Not your parents, not Ranboo.”

Techno added, “not to scare you, but if the wrong people find out then we will be experimented on and as much as I don’t want to scare you, that is not a pretty image of Tommy.”

“I…I won’t. Don’t worry.” He made his way towards the exit of the room, hopefully, he’d remember the way to his room. “Night.”

“Night, mate.”

Tubbo didn’t manage to sleep. His mind racing with all he had learnt throughout the day. He didn’t quite believe it yet. They were immortal. They couldn’t die, but could die? What was the biology behind that? He supposed it wasn’t even biology, it was just…magic?

His door creased open, and he glanced over, “Tommy?”

“Hey, Tubs,” his friend greeted a lot quieter than normal.

Tubbo breathed, “you’re alive.”

“Yeah…Phil-dad, I guess, told me you know.”

Tubbo severely underestimated how weird it would be to hear his friend say that. Still, he sat up. “I saw you and Wilbur leave.”

Tommy sat on the edge of his bed, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but Phil didn’t want us to and-”

“I-I get it, Tommy.”

“I know, but it wasn’t fair to you.” His shoulder’s sagged. “You came here expecting to just have a fun time, but now you’re involved with our weird family.”

Tubbo crawled over to his friend, sitting beside him. “It’s okay, Tommy. As long as you’re all safe.” A comfortable silence wrapped around them. “I’ll be honest, I didn’t quite believe them at first, I mean, immortality? You only see that shit in films - it’s never real. But if…if it’s real then, I guess everything’s fine.”

“Tubs, you don’t have to be okay with all of this. It’s not a normal everyday thing to learn that your best friend gets his brother to murder him every so often.”

“I suppose it’s not.” He paused, before asking, “does…does any else know?”

With a shake of his head, Tommy replied, “no. You’re currently the only person who knows.”

“You’ve told people in the past?”

Tommy looked downwards. “I’d rather not talk about it.”

“Oh.”

“There’s no evidence of it left, dad and Tech made sure of that, but it wasn’t a fun time.”

Moving on, Tubbo questioned, “I asked Techno earlier, but does it hurt?”

“Being killed?” He shook his head. “Not anymore. The pain faded after the first hundred or so deaths.”

“You’ve died that many times?” His eyes widened.

“Tubbo, I was born in the sixteenth century, I’ve died at least a thousand times by now,” Tommy laughed,

“Wow.”

“Yeah, I know. Wil holds the record though.”

“How many times has he died?”

Tommy counted out, “well, he and Tech were born in the twelve hundreds, so…plus all of the train shit he pulled, Wil’s probably died at least three thousand times.”

“What?”

“And that’s just on the low end.”

He titled his head, “what about Techno?”

“Techno? Only about eight hundred.”

“How come his count is so low?”

“He doesn’t like dying. Thinks of it as being weak, unresolved emotional feelings he doesn’t want to confront. Mother hates him for it - but like not in a “I am disowning you” way, she just wishes he would visit her more.”

Nodding, Tubbo stated, “she misses him.”

“Yeah…Phil can see her whenever, and he really does visit her whenever, and Wil and I at least visit her a few times a year, but Techno…he doesn’t. And she can’t be in this world for too long, so yeah.”

“What’s your mother like?”

“Mother’s lovely.” He clicked his tongue, “like, you don’t see many good depictions of Death, but she’s just so nice.”

“I have so many more questions.”

Tommy laughed, “why don’t we save them for a later date?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

Sliding off his bed, Tommy made his way over to his door, “night, Tubbo.”

“Night…and Tommy?”

“Yeah?”

“Thank you for trusting me with this.”

“If it had to be anyone, I’m glad it's you.”

“Night, Tommy.”

So, his friend was immortal, but Tubbo could learn to deal with that.
