Mass Effect Reacts: Humanities Potential

Summary:

The Citadel, along with its fleet, in the year 2157 CE was pulled into the Whitespace. A dimension between dimensions, there the denizens of the megastructure are told to watch the Infinitum of humanities potential throughout the multiverse. Before their first contact.

How will the council races react to this sudden change in events, and why do these hu-mans require such great interest?

well. . . you'll just have to read and find out

since this fanfic was so good but hasn't been updated since 2020, so I've decided to make my own to fill the void.

Notes:

Sit back, relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the show folks.

also, each new fandom will be added to the tags. I will not be adding characters or tags of those fandoms cause that's just too much of a hassle.

Chapter 1: ch1: welcome to Gutterspace

Chapter Text

[Citadel 2157 CE]

"I believe that this concludes matters for today?" Tevos sighed, the arduous and tedium of neigh unending proposals and paperwork began to tax not only the asari councilors' nerves but also the nerves of her fellow councilors as well. By the end, Sparatus looked half ready to throttle the next person to air their grievances, while Valern was hunched over in his seat rubbing his temples.

"Agreed," Sparatus groaned

"I second it as well."

With a sigh of relief, Tevos called the council adjourned for the time being, "Avina?"

The VI display flashed to life, "Yes Councilor Tevos?"

"Call a shuttle to Regalia Star, I have a prior meeting with an old friend I wish to attend."

"Of course Councilor, shall I place your calls on hold for the time being?"

"Please do."

The VI disappeared shortly after the shuttle's arrival, "Hope Benezia hasn't waited too long for me." she sighed as she climbed in.

[Regalia Star]

Benezia and her daughter Liara waited within a small booth, Regalia Star was one of the highlights of the citadel, a highly acclaimed restaurant with a waiting list that would take years in advance, or unless you're a councilor, little more than three days.

"Matriarch Benezia." She turned to see Tevos had finally arrived.

"Councilwoman Tevos, I'm glad you greet an old friend." she mockingly chided.

Tevos sighed as she sat down, "Elcor and Volus trade disputes on eezo mining rights do have the effect of making one late for prior engagements." she flashed a friendly smile, "it's good to see you again Benezia."

"And the same to you Tevos."

"and you must be Her daughter Liara?" she turned towards the other asari at their table.

"Yes, Liara T'soni at your service," she gave a curt bow.

"My daughter is my pride and joy, even if she got in trouble for digging up public spaces in her youth," she said with a mischievous smile.

"Mother!"

"Ah, I remember you telling me this tale once before," she typed her order on the menu pad, starting with Thessian wine, "Though it appears you've gone from digging up gardens to prothean ruins."

"Y-yes, I've always had a fascination with history," she tried to compose herself from her embarrassment, "I've always wondered why such a galaxy-spanning empire could so easily vanish in what amounts to a mere instant."

"you've got a quizzical mind you maiden," her drink hand arrived, she pushed a moment to taste, "I can only assume great things in your future, just like your mother."

"T-thank you." Liara blushed and flustered at the compliment, "i-if you'll excuse me I'd like to get some air." She politely got up from her seat and made her way towards the restaurant's balcony in the hopes that fresh air could calm her.

After she had left Benezia chuckled slightly, "My little wing aways was flustered easily in social occasions."

Tevos chuckled along with her old friend, "I could see that, but I was serious with what I said."

"I know, even her mother can look past the maiden she is and see the potential she has within herself."

"A toast to your daughter's future then?" she raised her glass slightly towards her.

"To my daughter," she answered clinking her drink against hers.

Meanwhile, outside on the balcony, "Groan* Mother why did you have to bring me along," she sighed looking up at the endless space above her head, "honestly I feel like she just-" she pause a moment, something wasn't right, "by the goddess what is that?"

Her eyes were directed towards the mass relay, its mass effect fields began to fluctuate violently, it's core spinning faster and faster. She then shielded her eyes as a blinding flash of light illuminated the entirety of the citadel.

[Citadel Lower wards: Clinic]

"So doc, how's the kid?" Garrus asked as he, along with three others, waited in the lobby of one of the citadel's clinics.

"Patient is in stable condition officer," the salarian, Mordin, stated, "good you brought her in as quickly as you did, quarians weak immune systems fragile, her condition would have become. . . problematic if brought in too late."

He let out a sigh of relief, most of C-Sec aren't too fond of quarians, just one of the reasons he hated the beurocracy of it all. When he heard a report of gunfire down in the lower wards, he half expected to see just some random punk with an itchy trigger finger. He ended up finding a whole ass shootout between a band of mercs, blood pact if the coloring was right, and three other individuals; those three sitting with him right now.

"Okay," he called out to get their attention, "can anyone tell me why an asari justicar, a krogan battlemaster, and a drell assassin ended up in a firefight against a bunch of mercs?"

"heh, what's it to you turian?" the Krogan, Wrex, scoffed.

"It's my job."

"Kid was in trouble," he crossed his arms, "also I was itching for a fight and it was either them or some C-Sec guard."

"It is in my code to aid those who are in need of it," the Asari, Samara, said, "as for why I found myself there, I am in the midst of tracking a dangerous individual, the quarian was my informant, I was meeting her when those mercs suddenly appeared, so I decided to retaliate."

"The hanar government was tracking that particular group of mercenaries, " the drell, Thane, replied, "those individuals were smuggling illegal weapons to terrorist, I was tasked with eliminating them, I am usually more discreet. . . the intrusion of third parties complicated matters."

Garrus was gonna need a drink after this, "seriously?" wiping his hand over his face he let out an exasperated groan, "oh this is gonna give me a headache."

"BREAKING NEWS"

Those in the lobby turned their heads towards the screen.

"HOURS AGO THE CITADEL SCIENTISTS NOTICED THE MASS RELAY EMITTING AN UNKNOWN ENERGY- WAIT SOMETHINGS HAPPENING!"

the camera pans towards the mass relay itself, its rotating rings and core start to sporadically speed, the core arching and pulsing irregularly. Suddenly the screen goes white and is followed by static.

". . .spirits." was all Garrus could say

"You can say that again."

They all turned to the new voice, it turned out to be the young quarian girl, Tali, "No, no, no, Patient just suffered major allergic reaction, please rest immediately!" Mordin tried pushing Tali back into her room.

"I'm fine doctor," she protested, "I don't know why but I feel better, Keelah, I feel as though I haven't been shot at all."

"Fascinating-" He was cut off as a strange pure white rectangle appeared on a nearby wall. As soon as it did, an unknown cloaked figure appeared.

"Hello?"

[Citadel Council Room]

"Goddess, my eyes still sting." Liara was pressing the palm of her hands to her eyes, taking the full brunt of the light, she and her mother were escorted towards the council room.

"Sparatus! Valern! do either of you know what the hell just happened!?"

"We're as stumped as you are Tevos," Valern stated in distraught, "Avina is offline and we have no idea where we are!" they all look outside and see the familiar scenery of inky space and nebulas has been replaced with nothing but white-nothingness.

"not to mention the sudden appearance of our new guests," Sparatus said in exasperation. There on another table sat Primarch Fedorian, the entirety of the quarian admiralty, and...

"Is that a Geth!?" The Geth in question was a prime standing in the far corner of the room watching everything unfold, as to why it wasn't attacking or being attacked was a mystery.

"Yes, it is," one of her fellow councilors said, "yet when one of our guards tried to fire, they couldn't."

"You mean it damaged our weapons?"

"No the guard in question physically couldn't fire his weapon," he pointed towards the pillar nearby, riddled with bullet holes, "yet they were able to when not pointed at the target, where ever we are we are physically incapable of causing harm to each other."

Tevos was about to say something when suddenly A large white flat rectangular screen appeared, floating in mid-air. It wasn't just with the council either, all throughout the citadel, these strange screens appeared everywhere. And just as surprisingly they all then displayed the appearance of a strange cloaked figure, its body and face obscured in shadow.

Um. . . Hello?

Their voice was masculine.

Okay so, Hi, My name is OurShy or OS for short.

As you can all see I've brought you into the domain known as gutterspace, a dimension between dimensions, here you will be unable to harm or attack one another; but there's a perk, anything you need or want, just say it and it shall appear before you, go ahead I'll give you a moment to test it out.

As the strange being said, all they had to do was ask, Valern asked for a cup of Sur'kesh tea, and just as was promised, the authentic appeared.

Good good, seems you all understand, but grading your desires isn't why I'm here. In a few months' time a new species will enter the galactic scene, and boy-o-boy they are something special, you'll all be made to view various versions of this species throughout the omniverse.

This earned murmurs throughout the citadel, both of shock and amazement.

Now here's the catch, I won't tell you which version is your version, so anyone of the multitudes of varients I show might be yours.

So sit back and enjoy the show.

just as he concluded, numbers began to appear on the scene counting down, everyone's eyes glued and focused with anticipation.

Chapter Text

The strange screens all across the citadel light up, the screens turn dark as white text appears.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

-Albert Einstein

No one knew who this Albert Einstein was, but the quote that was shown was not very comforting to hear about this supposed new emerging species.

"That's a bit concerning," Garrus said as he sat in the clinic lobby.

"I'm sure it's nothing," Tali said sitting alongside him.

Suddenly the screens show a skull crossed with crutches and white text.

The stunts in this were performed by professionals. So neither you nor your dumb buddies should attempt anything from this

Ecstasy of Gold begins to play as the screens cut to the scene of a suburban area with a large cloud of smoke, emerging from the smoke were a group of humans alongside some Turian, Asari, Krogan, and one Volas called "wee-man" with terrified looks on their faces. While most of the citadel were astounded as to why these humans looked so much like the Asari, a few were wondering just why there were scared and running. Suddenly a rampaging herd of bulls emerged from the smoke smashing and destroying all in their path as they rammed all the people on screen. Near the end, as a Turian and a human with stubble and a buzz cut enters a home to avoid the rampaging bulls, the turian jumps out the window while the human looks on at the camera.

"Hi, I'm Shepard Knoxville, and this is JACKASS." the human is then rammed through a window as a heard of bulls stamped.

The entire Citadel was shocked as to what happened on screen, except the Krogans, they were just laughing their ass's off.

"What the fuck was that?" Garrus said in a state of shock trying to wrap his head around what he just saw.

Wrex was laughing like crazy, rolling on the floor and holding his sides, "HAHAHAHA~ I-I CAN'T HAHAHA"

Chapter Text

After the screen went back to white, many of the citadel's inhabitance were either left scratching their heads at what they just saw, or laughing up a storm.

"That was," the Asari councilor couldn't really describe the level of idiocy that she and the rest of her fellow councilors had witnessed, ". . . quite odd"

"That's putting it mildly," Sparatus said with an exasperated sigh, "if this is what we're going to expect from this coming species, then we'll need security measures where ever they go."

"Judging a single species based on a short viewing seems a bit crass," Benezia argued, her daughter agreeing.

"Strange," Valern rubbed their chin in contemplation, "this was shown somewhat like a video."

Suddenly the screens from all over the citadel showed the image of the cloaked figure from before, but this time they had removed his hood and cloak, revealing a young man with dark tan skin, his hair a pure white, and their iris a kaleidoscope of colors. Many of the young females and some of the male residents of the citadel found them rather attractive, a few blushing and snapping pictures.

So you're all probably wondering why I showed you this.

Well, and don't take this the wrong way, but it was to see if you would die.

This quickly sobered and brought all the citadel to attention, 'die!?' 'what did he say!?' "We could have died!?'  Most of the citadel was now filled with confused and worried whispers and questions.

To put it simply, gazing into the very multiverse itself is no easy feat for the mortal mind.

So to lessen the effects, I altered the viewing to make it look like a movie so there wouldn't be any negative effects.

Though I wasn't sure it would work so that last one was a test of sorts.

When mortals gaze see something like that it tends to have uh. . . well I'll just show you what could have happened.

[Clip from: Raiders of the Lost Ark]

The screens show three people standing over a large golden chest of some sort, the man in the center dressed in a colorful robe and golden jewelry, suddenly fire and horrors erupted from the golden relic, as the men screamed in terror and agony, the man on the left began to sink into himself as blood boiled out of his mouth, another began to melt leaving nothing but a bloodied gruesome skull, the one in the middle, screamed as his head exploded, gore and viscera scattering.

The scene ended there.

This left many in the citadel either fainting, resisting the urge to puke, puking, or freezing in terror as they realized this could have happened to them if this being's attempt had failed.

"Oh Keela I'm gonna-" Tali abruptly ran out of the clinic's lobby into a nearby restroom in order to not puke in her suit.

"Meh, I've seen worse," Wrex said, though he pushed away his meal as he lost his appetite.

Those in the Councilors room were no different, as Liara flung herself at a nearby trashcan and proceeded to expel her lunch, the Geth Prime unit strangely patting her back, "Our studies of the extranet have shown that supporting one in the process of voiding the stomach contents leads to a quicker recovery time."

Some of those, mostly the Quarian admiralty stared in shock at the geth, a single geth unite being capable of speech was unheard of, "How is it speaking!?" Tali's father said in confusion, "A single geth prime should only have the intelligence of a varrin!?"

"I think we have bigger issues right now than a single talking geth." Raan stated

Yeah, that's what would have happened.

Luck it didn't so that good.

But I'll give y'all a moment to calm yourselves.

After everyone had collected and cleaned themselves, the screens counted down again. Everyone waiting in anticipation and hesitation at what they were about to see.

Suddenly, like before, a quote showed itself on the screen.

". . . in a single day and night of misfortune, the island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea."

-Plato, 360 B.C.

The screen then changed to show a calm scene of blue waves and clouded blue sky, the distant squawking of birds, and crashing waves. Many within the citadel found this to be a peaceful scene, suddenly a beam shot through the sky; in an instant, a bright flash covered the screen followed by an ever-growing blast, the force strong enough to part the skies themselves.

Strange flying ships in the shape of various animals flew past the screen, trying to get away from both the explosion and the ever-growing tidal wave behind them.

The screen then showed two soldiers in gold and brown armor riding one of the ships, they spoke in a language unknown to the races within the citadel, luckly subtitles appeared on the screen.

"You Fool! You've destroyed us all!"

The wave gained speed, destroying a few of the ships unfortunate enough to not outrun it, "The wave is gaining! We have to warn Atlantis!"

"Too Late!" Screams filled the air as those caught within the wave were destroyed.

"By the Goddess." Liara could do nothing but cover her mouth in sheer shock and horror.

"What weapon is capable of such destruction!?" Fedorian asked, already strategizing on how to either destroy or take such power if worse came to worse.

"I'm more interested in their technology," Valern was already writing down their finding in their personal datapad, "its advanced enough to fly with no visible thrusters or exhaust, yet it appears to be made of simple stone?" their mind racing what was the power source, was it the same as the weapon they just witnessed. questions and hypothesis filled their thoughts.

As the counsel went on about their opinions, the citadel as a whole stared at the screens, many in fear at the sight of such a weapon, while the more criminally inclined began thinking of ways to claim it as their own and to use it for their own benefit.

A few of the ships that managed to escape the wave raced past rocks and buildings racing towards the massive capital city. The city itself was a beautiful sight to behold, though sadly it wasn't about to last.

As the ships raced past, a man in a red tunic, a glowing blue crystal hanging around his neck, gazed upon the now darkening skies and an ever-encroaching wave, immediately he ran towards a metal speaker.

"Every to the shelters! Everyone to the shelters!"

Two men with similar crystals around their necks raised their hammers and began bagging the large bell, signaling the warning. The streets were filled with panic and fleeing people, it was at this moment that the citadel gained a closer look at the appearance of these people, they all had a tan skin color, and their hair was a pure white, crystals ung on each of their necks, though no one understood why, the researchers and more archeologically inclined speculated amongst themselves. Red search lights filled the streets as ships began to crash from the sky.

The scene then changed to a guard beckoning a family in more noble garb to follow him.

"This way your Highness! Quickly!"

"Kida! Come on!"

The Mother dragged her child away dropping her doll, as the daughter tried to go back for it.

"Kida! Just leave it! There's no time!"

Suddenly one of the read searchlights stopped on the mother, changing into a light blue, the mother stared up at the source of the light the crystal around her neck floating as her eyes began to glow blue. Her once-shocked expression changed into an emotionless visage as she stared at the light.

Many in the citadel were shocked and wondering at what was happening

"I feel something," Samara said as she stared at the screens,  "That light, I sense something from it." She wasn't the only one, as many of the Asari across the citadel felt it too. whatever this light was, it had power.

"What do you mean?" Mordin asked, curious as to what she meant.

"I just sense a. . ." she trailed off as she stared, ". . . pull of some kind."

"The light almost seems, divine to me." The drell assassin said as he looked onto the screen.

The Father Looked back to see him within the center of the light; the light, and the lights around her, quickly focused on her crystal. A flash appeared as she began floating above the ground and into the light unintentionally taking her daughter's bracelet with her.

"Mother!"

The little girl tried to reach out for her mother as tears welled in her eyes as she cried for her mother. Large stone statues clapped their hands together creating a massive domed forcefield, ships, and people rushing inside. unfortunately many were not so lucky. Ships crashed unable to make it in time as people on the outside banged against the forcefield wishing to be let in. A few of the people simply hugged their loved ones accepting their fate.

The King rushed towards her daughter hugging her, holding her close to his chest to make sure she didn't see.

"Close your eyes Kida! Look away!"

He gasped as he looked about the massive energy source spinning at high velocity, the shield fully sealing. as the city began to sink into the ground, smoke and fire bursting forth as the great wave claimed the unprotected parts of the city, drowning them into an oceanic grave. all that remained as the smoke cleared was not but ocean.

The councilors and their guests could only bow their heads in sadness at the destruction they had witnessed.

"An entire civilization," tears filled Liara's eyes as she was pulled into a comforting hug from her mother, "all those lives."

"I know little bird," Benezia said to comfort her daughter, "I know."

"We need to claim that power source," Sparatus said, Fedorian agreeing.

"Goddess Sparatus!" Tevos said with indignation, "you just saw what that power did, and you want to use it!?"

"Better we get to it first before anyone else does!" Fedorian argued.

"Which is why it should be best left alone!" She countered, "as of now no one knows where it is, aside from the fact that it's on a world past the dormant relay."

The three started to argue, the admiralty were no different, some wanting to either claim the power to use as fuel for their ships or as a weapon against the geth. with the Geth Prime just stared at the screen forming consensus within itself.

The rest of the citadel was in a similar debate, some believing this power should remain lost while others arguing that it would be more beneficial if it was found. The arguing only stopping as the screens lit up again.

Strange letters appearing on the screen only for them to flip into common lettering that was used in the citadel.

Chapter Text

Earth, Washington D.C.

2183

The screens then change to a bustling cityscape, skyscrapers rising in the background as people and cars rush to and through.

“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. First off, I’d like to thank this board for taking the time to hear my proposal." A voice narrates.

The screen zooms inside the much older-looking museum, passing the many visitors. Soon the screen shifted to a cluttered room with a young man standing in front of a silhouetted group of people, an old map displayed behind him, the chalkboard on his left having an unknown language written with what most of the citadel assumed was the translation below reading, 'COAST OF IRELAND.'

The young man in question wore circular framed glasses, an open beige vest with a white dress shirt underneath, black dress pants, and a red tie.

Back at the council.

"That room seems a bit too. . ." Liara tried to find the right word for it, "clustered, to hold a proper lecture."

"I believe you are right on that," Daro'Xen taps her finger on the table as the scene plays out, "but then again, a lack of proper spacing shouldn't hold back a lecture."

Liara quirked an eyebrow at the last remark, "speaking from experience miss?"

"Admiral Daro'Xen of the Quarian R&D corps," she stated.

"I'm surprised the Quarian even have any form of research or development given their. . ." Valern bluntly added, "resource deficient state."

The condescension of the statement wasn't lost amongst the admirals, a few showing small signs of anger.

Before any harsher words were exchanged, Benezia intervened in order to cease the tension, "Councilor," she said loud enough for the room to hear, "Perhaps we should choose our words more carefully when in the company of guests." She continued, "After all, you were in such a "resource-deficient state," yourselves after pirates attacked one of your people's major mining facilities."

Valern then huffed, as their foot was proverbially placed in their mouth. seeing as the Quarians were satisfied with the outcome Tevos sighed thanking the goddess for Benezia being here.

"Now, we’ve all heard the legend of Atlantis, a continent somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, ironic as it is, that was home to an advanced civilization possessing technology far beyond our own,” He then pulled out a small tablet screen displaying a marble statue, "according to our friend Plato here," he tapped the tablet screen changing it to ancient depictions of tidal waves and floods, "Atlantis was suddenly struck by a cataclysmic event that sank it beneath the waves."

He started tapping his phone looking for the continuation of his speech. "Now, someone of you may be wondering ‘why Atlantis? It’s just a myth, right? Pure fantasy.’ Well, that is where you would be wrong." Pulling out the tablet, he started scrolling through various images and depictions of Atlantis throughout ancient history, all having similar depictions of Atlantis, though varying in design.

"Ten thousand years before the ancient Egyptians had built the pyramids, the Atlantians had technology that would even rival modern Asari civilization; electricity, advanced medicine, and even the power of flight." He then slid the images on the touchscreen until it showed a set of images of ancient Atlantis, all depicting a strange glowing object, a few with colors depicting it as a light blue.

The rest of the citadel was taken aback by the claims of Atlantis, though it was only a glimpse, in the beginning, it was shown to be sufficiently advanced. A few chuckled or mildly supported the notion of Atlantis putting the Asari off their pedestal, while a few others, mostly Asari themselves thought it to be only an exaggeration.

"Impossible, but not to them; numerous ancient cultures around the world agree that Atlantis possessed a power source of some kind that was more powerful than gasoline, then nuclear energy, even more than modern-day element-zero fusion core engines." He then placed the tablet down on the podium and walked toward the front of the silhouetted spectators. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I propose an expedition to find Atlantis, find that very power source, and bring it back to the greater galaxy."

The archeological individuals on the Citadel, Liara included, began taking notes; true they weren't actually there and this was only a possible version of these humans with no guarantee if this was in their reality. but still, even if it was not the knowledge was tantalizing.

Back at the Clinic

"Heh, for a scrawny little pijack kids got some quads," Wrex grunted out, slightly impressed

"What makes you say that?" Tali questioned.

"Kids stickin' up for what he believes in," he then explained further, "takes guts to still believe in somethin' when everyone else thinks is nuts."

"huh guess you're right on that." Garrus rubbed his chin after thinking about the situation, to him and the rest of the citadel, they were an outside observer; but to those on the screen they were taking everything as it comes, "perspective is a hell of a thing huh."

"Fascinating, seeing other worlds as an outside observer is truly an experience." Mordin didn't really have an input on the story as a whole, he was too busy running tests on the dimension they were all in.

“Now, this is a page from an illuminated text describing a book called ‘The Shepard’s Journal’." He pulled out the touchscreen, and pulled up an enhanced image of an old page with an illustration of said journal, "said to be a first-hand account of Atlantis, and its exact whereabouts." Setting the touchscreen aside he made his way to the chalkboard, "Now, based on centuries-old translations of a Norse text, historians believe the Journal resides in Ireland.” He then went towards the podium and lifted the ancient shield in front of it, clearly struggling with its weight, “But, after comparing the text to the runes on this Viking shield,” he managed to grunt out.

"I wanna give this kid a meal, I mean damn," Wrex said, he didn't know whether to laugh or to cry while looking at this kid trying to lift the shield.

“I discovered that several letters had been mistranslated." He then pushed up the upper part of his sleeve and proceeded to wipe off the "re" of Ireland. "So, by changing these letters, and inserting the correct one," after erasing the mistranslation, he proceeded to write the letter C in its place. "We find that the Shepard’s Journal, the key to Atlantis, lies not in Ireland, but in Iceland.”

"Pause for effect." He said quietly to himself.

A few in the citadel laughed at this quite a bit.

"I've held many a lecture and I've never "Paused for effect" in any of them," Mordin said, trying to find the logic in such an action.

"Really you've never tried to build up the tension before?" Garrus asked, "never tried to pull people to the edge of their seat?"

"No." plainly said, "Lecture and knowledge itself should have sufficed, if not then lecture not worth it, to begin with." Mordin calmly explained.

"A bit of showmanship along with knowledge never hurt anyone doctor." Thane tried to debate.

"If showmanship is needed for attention then that person isn't whom the lecture is for." this was what he said to shoot down his argument.

"Are all Salarians this intense?" Tali whispered to Samara.

"I've met many people in my travels," Samara said, "and no they aren't, some are worse."

"Now I'll be taking questions now," but before any questions were asked, the phone on the back of the wall started to ring.

"Um, would you folks excuse me for a second," he then pulled the pin on the side of the chalkboard and proceeded to spin it around on its axis in order to reach the phone. "Milo Thatch, Washington historical museum cartography and linguistics office how may I-" a cluster of shouts were heard from the other end, Milo becoming more and more dejected as it continued, "Oh, y-yeah just a second."

With a sigh, he walked away towards the light switch, and as the lights went on it was shown that the "audience" was nothing more than statues and mannequins.

Laughter and chuckling were heard throughout the citadel as a few enjoyed the misdirection while the more mean-spirited laughing was towards the fact that the young man was essentially just talking to himself.

"ah that makes much more sense," Liara stated as she now gained a clearer picture of what was happening, "though positioning statues just for lecture practice seems odd, but not very uncommon."

Benezia simply chuckled as she remembered how Liara did something similar with her stuffed toys when she was still a child, but she kept that to herself.

The Council and Quarian Admiralty didn't feel much, either way, while the Geth. . . just stared on in the corner.

Milo started walking past the mock audience, "Oops, excuse me, Mr. Higgenbottom," making his way towards an old and very much not up-to-date boiler he began twisting assorted nobs and such before grabbing a nearby wrench and smacking it against the side.

Making his way back to the phone, "How's that? That better?" more yelling was heard on the other end before finally hanging up, "yeah, you're welcome," he said. Flipping the chalkboard over to a map he continued on with his mock lecture, "n-now as you can see on this map that I've drawn, I've plotted the route I will take myself and a crew to the southern part of Iceland to retrieve the journal-" the wall clock ringed cutting its lecture short.

Dusting himself off the collected his tablet and documents from the podium, "alright, I'm finally getting out of the dungeon." making his way towards the stairs he stops at a picture of him and his grandfather when he was still younger. placing the photo back down he opened the cabinet to show his grandfather's old safari helmet, with a smile he placed it on his own head, though unfortunately, it was a few sizes too short and promptly fell over his eyes, "typical," Milo said with a sigh.

This roused quite a few more chuckles from the audience.

"Quite humorous reminds me of when grandnephew tried on my labcoat," Mordin said fondly looking back on his life.

But sadly the moment was lost when Milo heard the phone in his back pocket vibrate. Curiously, taking the helmet off, he reached for his phone to see that he had received a text message, "dear Mr. Thatch this is to inform you that your meeting today has been moved up from 4:30 to 3- wait what!?" he frantically looked at the clock to see that it was already 4 pm, another ping rang on his phone to show another text, "dear Mr. Thatch we regret to inform you that due to your absence we regretfully have to deny your- WHAT THE HELL!?" He flung his papers and tablet on the floor in anger, "T-They can't do this to me!" In a rush, he grabbed what he could off the floor and promptly booked it upstairs.

Liara could only gawk at this, "The audacity of such an underhanded action!"

"little bird?" her mother asked questioning her daughter's outburst.

"I'm sorry for my outburst but by the goddess the sheer frustration of having to go through that is incomprehensible."

"I take it this has happened to you as well?" Benezia, assuming the situation.

"Yes," Liara said with a huff, the Salarian museum used this to deny many of my exploration proposals on suspected Prothean sites."

Benezia hummed, thinking to herself about having a chat with the head curator of the Salarian museum.

Summary:

Sorry

Chapter Text

Your all probably wondering why there hasn't been a chapter recently, well I'll tell you.

I recently got into an argument with my mom, or ex mom as I now call her, she kicked out but not before insulting and belittling me and I've been stuck crashing at my aunt and uncle's guest bedroom.

Currently I just got a new apartment and am in the process of moving out, that and me going into IT courses means my schedule is a little bit muddled.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I'll try to continue with this, again I'm really sorry.

Thank you for all the replies and kudos

To my audience

Chapter 7: Brightest day, Blackest night pt.1

Summary:

This one was in my head too much that I had to do it before I continue the atlantis one, don't worry I still plan on finishing that one

Chapter Text

The screens all throughout the Citadel crackled with static, crackling and fizzing until their resolution of them started to dim, showing them all the visage of their host/detainer. His voice echoed throughout the station as he spoke.

"Hello, hello!" his voice chipper and playful, "Check one two!"

Most of the audience, especially those within the council were surprised by both the sudden appearance of their captor and his near-candid tone of voice.

"What does he want now?" Sparatus accusingly questioned, he didn't trust their host, believing there was more to this than just showing them possible variants of these "humans" that were about to come through to the galactic scene.

"Hope you've enjoyed the viewing so far, but we're gonna have to table it for now," the screens suddenly fizzled back to static, "you see, a timeline of humanity has caught my eye at the moment and decided to show it all to you!" Everyone throughout the station was intrigued by this, "But don't worry after it's done we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming, LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!" As he said this the screens then changed to pure black, showing only a single green symbol, a circle with two horizontal lines on its top and bottom.

No one knew what this symbol meant or represented, but as the screens started to fade again, its meaning would soon be made known.

The screens Open up Revealing a great green planet, two planetary rings orbiting its X and Y axis; the spider web-like lights of civilization and technology spreading itself across the surface of the planet. Soon cutting to the surface, towering structures and skyscrapers stretched throughout the skyline. though such advanced architecture was not what caught the eyes and awe of the audience; no, it was the people on the planet, more specifically how they seemed to be flying throughout the sky with no visible means of flight, only seeing them all in green, black, and white clothes, all coated in an emerald colored aura and all of various races and species, most unknown to them.

The screen's then show a young girl with blue eyes, blond hair, and pointed ears sitting on the edge of one of these towers, her clothes a similar color scheme to the people on the planet, she looked down with a look of melancholy at her hands, a single green ring attached to her middle finger.

"Something troubling you young one?" The girl turned around to see-

"Me!?" Samara stood up from her seat in the clinic, surprised to see herself on the screen. Her clothes on screen were exactly similar to what she wore now, but they no longer sported red and gold, instead, they were similar colors to the rest, with the same symbol the screens showed before plastered on her collar.

Throughout the citadel, people were surprised finally see one of the known races appear in a prominent role.

Within the Council chambers, Benezia and Tevos gasped in shock, as they both recognized who this asari was.

"A Justicar?" Benezia questioned.

"It would appear so," Tevos was intrigued by this.

The young girl looked at the Justicar and sighed, "Nothing, it's just," she paused as the started to fidget with her ring, "three days ago I was sitting in class trying to figure out a physics problem and then, this."

"The universe does have a strange way of working," Samara sighed, remembering when she was granted her own ring as well as her induction into the corps.

"The thing is, why me?" She questioned as she looked up to the asari, "I'm just a student, a nobody really." Her saddened gaze turned down in slight shame.

Samara looked at her with a sad expression before turning away a small smile growing on her face, "Perhaps Arthur had felt something similar when he had gained his ring."

"Who?" she asked.

"The first Green Lantern," she explained, "it's one of the first stories you learn once you become inducted into the Lantern corps."

Sparatus and Fedorian contemplated this new information, though the conversation on screen shared little it aided in piecing this puzzle together, 'its obvious that this 'lantern corps' is rather influential, judging by the number of races wearing their colors, there's something more to this' Sparatus thought to himself.

The Geth consensus logged this data into their memory storage.

"To quote scripture, "The first one given a ring was not the first lantern"," the screen slowly faded into black as she continued, "The first was Arthur. "

The screen then fades back into life, showing a primitive alien race going through their collective lives, "The Book of Oa, first chapter, first verse," she narrated, "Long ago when the first stars had ignited, long ago when the universe was new and in its infancy."

Suddenly, the natives turned their heads upwards as jetstreams streaked across the sky, the light of the day clouded with the menacing shadows of colossal warships hanging above, "before order, there was chaos."

with no provocation, warning, or reason, the warships began firing on the surface below, the blasts crumbling mountains and scorching the ground as rivers and lakes boiled away from the heated plasma of each shot fired. Above the planet, visible blasts of fire were scene scattering across the planet's surface.

The scene then shifted to the interior view of one of these warships, the visage of this aggressor was shown, its skin a sickly pale white, its sharp and predatory fangs laid bare on its face in a perpetual snarl, "Chaos out-balanced creation," the scene then shifts back to the surface, the once lush and vibrant nature, now nothing more than scorched earth, as the invaders scorched what was left with flamethrowers, "hate out-balanced fellowship," on the shores of the beaches, the corpses of the natives washed ashore, "and all life suffered."

A majority within the citadels turned away from this horrid sight. Mothers and fathers covered their children's eyes to spare them from the slaughter they had witnessed. The warriors and soldiers clutched their hands in tight fists, this unjust massacre filling them with fury at this unknown species; their anger over ridding their fear at such powerful weaponry.

 Meanwhile back at Mordins Clinic.

"ARGH!" Wrex slammed his fists into the waiting room's table, cracking its glass surface and snarling with unbridled rage, "Those pyjak fuckers!" He roared, "That wasn't a fight, that wasn't a glorious battle, that was Pointless!"

"Isn't that the same as the Krogans?" a passerby snidely commented; a comment that was heard by and not too well appreciated by Wrex. Who, in a swift motion, grabbed the Batarian by the collar of his shit and slammed him into a wall cracking and denting the panel.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Garrus exclaimed, pulling out his pistol and aiming it at the Krogan, "alright everyone, just calm down!"

Wrex merely huffed, as he got in close to his captive, in a low growl he said, "Krogans fight for a cause, for what we believe in, and I sure as hell ain't taking criticism from a race of slavers who can't even fight their own battles," he pulled back and let go, dropping the Batarian on his ass, "now, get the hell out before I change my mind." Without being told twice, they then scampered to their feet and bolted out of the clinic.

Garrus sighed as he reholstered his pistol, the two stared at each other for a hot minute before Garrus broke the tension, "For what it's worth, that Batarian was being an ass."

Wrex merely chuckled, "you're alright Turian."

"It's Garrus," he corrected.

"Don't push it," Wrex stated.

At the Council chambers.

"By the Goddess," Liara simply gasped, unable to find the words after witnessing such a hellish scene, she merely covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes unable to turn away from the screens.

"That broke nearly every war crime within our council's charter!" Tevos exclaimed, she as well not too keen on what she had witnessed.

"Though sadly, there is not much we can do about it," Valern stated in a cold calculation, "if what the asari narrating said holds true, then these events happened thousands if not centuries in the past." Though that wouldn't stop them from creating plans to prevent such a scenario from happening again.

"It still doesn't make it right," Sparatus argued.

"It never is Councilor," Benezia added in her say, "it never is."

The screen then fades in, showing the same green planet as before, minus the two planetary rings. on its surface, a naturally curving tower came into view as explosions flashed in the planet's night sky. "The Guardians saw it all," transitioning into the building's interior, nine red and white-robed figures came into view, short in stature with white hair and blue skin; some among the citadel, mainly the conspiracy theorists saw a small similarity to the asari. "The evil was too great to be left unchecked."

The nine figures all gathered around the center of the room, a great beam of light emerging from the center, "and so they gathered the light." Then each of the figures pointed towards the pillar of light, a green glowing ball of energy appearing at the tips of each of their fingers, "they knew of its variety and strength and the light with the most power, yet they sought their answer in the light of will."

The pillar of light soon glowed brightly until it encompassed the entire screen, and many of the viewers shielded their eyes at the intensity. The Guardians then began molding the motes and orbs of emerald light like a sculptor with clay, "to form from it a weapon, unequal."

"To turn armies to sand, will given substance." The light finally shifted itself into a single green ring, a guardian holding it between their fingers, "forming."

"The power to turn pure emotion into physical form, fascinating." Mordin stroked his chin in contemplation at such a feat, "such a thing should be scientifically impossible, yet proof has just been shown that it is, possibilities limitless." Mordin's mind was racing with possibilities and theories, 'are other colors possible? are they also associated with emotions each? what about unseen spectrums? do they affect the users mind?'

"The power of will?" Samara stared down at her hands, the phantom feeling of a ring prevalent, contemplating why she was chosen.

"keelah, can we just say space magic?" Tali threw out in exasperation after trying to find a rational possibility, "because I'm not seeing any other option."

Thane just sat in the back, in his own thoughts about this physical will.

"The greatest warriors of the known universe were gathered." It shows a large city center, thousands of warriors and soldiers gathered, "four would be chosen." A young human man with blond hair and green eyes stood on a hovering platform, a book, and pen in hand as he chronicled the events transpiring before him, he looked up as the Guardians descended in front of the massive crowd, "and the Guardians said to the assembly."

"Stand tall warriors, If we are to be guardians, you are to be our strength, and if you are you are to be our strength then let these be your arms." A pillar of green light appeared, and as it dissipated, a pedestal and box remained. One of the Guardians reached forward, opening the box showing four forged emerald rings.

The first of these rings hovered from its box for a moment before dashing into the crowd to find a wielder worthy of it, the first a rectangular and purple alien was chosen, the second chosen was a yellow and orange ape-like species, and the third chosen was one with blue skin and cloud-like hair. As the ring bearers were chosen the human scribe continued to journal these events. The fourth and final ring rose high above the crowd, as it swerved its way through the mass of warriors, "but then, the unexpected happened."

The final ring then dashed back to the Guardians, "they called it an accident," the ring flew past the Guardians, and in an instant, the entirety of the plaza was bathed in a brilliant green light outshining even the stars and moons in the sky, "accident is only the will of the universe expressing itself.

The scribe's book was shown dropping onto the floor, "and it was the universe will that the fourth lantern be Arthur," the screen then shows Arthur in black and green armor with white trim, the symbol of the lanterns embossed in his chest, "a mere scribe, chronicler to the guardians." Arthur looked at himself and towards the ring that now lay on his finger, a confused expression dawning on his face.

"And so it would be for all time, the rings would choose their successors."

Chapter Text

The screens throughout the citadel transition into an odd spherical ship, traveling through FTL, the stars turning into streaks of light stretching across the void as they traveled.

"The Guardians had armed the first four," the variant of Samara had narrated, "and sought to train them."

The scene then cut into the ship's interior, the four chosen warriors of the guardians sat within calmly preparing themselves for the arduous battle that awaited them. Arthur looked down at his hand as his fingers grazed its emerald edge, doubt, and self-deprecation prevalent on his face. His attention soon being brought to the present as explosions and shockwaves of great force seemingly broke reality, somehow managing to be heard and occurring in the void of space over the currently invaded planet.

"But as it with many things in war, no training could prepare them for what would come," Samara continued, "when training gave way to duty."

Many of the Citadels inhabitants looked on with worry as the four started to venture into the warzone, Sparatus leaned back into his chair as he watched this play out, "Bad idea for him to be there."

"What do you mean?"

"Kids too skittish," he explained, "everyone else at that gathering were warriors, but this kid," he gestured at the screen, "he's just a secretary with probably only a few weeks training."

Benezia would have agreed, given the human's timid and more bookish nature, but something about him made her feel otherwise. As if there was a spark waiting to ignite, a spark that would grow into something, something unbreakable, "perhaps you're right, but there is still yet to be seen."

The other newly christened lanterns looked on in shock as the invaders began their decimation of the world, orbital bombardments shaking the planet's mantel.

"A plague had savaged the universe," massive and destructive explosions littered the planets reaching far into the stratosphere touching the void of space, "the guardians sent the first for to stop its advance, ready or not."

The pilot started to swerve between the lines of massive warships and fighters as shockwaves and superheated explosions tore through open space. One such blast occurring near their ship, Arthur flinched shielding his eyes away from the bright and blinding light of it.

His fellow lantern looked on at him as he flinched, "your first battle?" she asked, after giving her an affirming nod, she placed one of her hands on his shoulder, "just do what I do," she turned looking out the side port window, "and try to stay alive."

Looking at his ring, he gestured out toward the massive warzone they faced, "Are these really enough to stand against all that?"

"The Guardians say they'll protect us."

"But, they're just rings." He said with uncertainty.

"And before you got yours you were just a scribe," she said, "use your imagination-" Before she could finish a massive plasma blast tore through the ship one after another until the ship was rendered nothing more than molten and junked slag and metal. Many in the Citadel held their breath or looked down at the seemingly instant demise of the four.

Until out of the debris the four lanterns were thrown back, a bright green aura covering their bodies. All seemingly unharmed and unaffected by the airless void of space.

Many viewers stared on in shock at this, surviving a ship blowing up was an astonishing thing in and of itself, but breathing relatively unharmed in space was another.

"Fascinating, absolutely fascinating, surviving ship explosion easy, good armor or biotics, but surviving in space with no EV suits, no shields, no insulation from near zero temperatures." Mordin took a long breath before finishing, "Fascinating."

"How can such a small thing project a body shield strong enough to survive an exploding ship," Tali was contemplating how such a thing as well, "it's too small to house anything, and how are they even breathing?"

The scientifically inclined residents of the Citadel began trying to wrap their heads around such a concept. Baffled and somewhat annoyed at how this small ring device somehow threw conventional science and logic out the window.

Sadly the four chosen had no respite as a small squadron of enemy fighters converged on their location, pushing Arthur out of her way, the purple rectangular alien blasted an arch of green energy out of her ring decimating a good chunk of the enemy. Following her example, the other warriors charged into the fray Arthur following last leaving streaks of emerald light as they flew.

They soon converged on one of the invading dreadnaught starships, and though their energy blasts did little they targeted key points. One of the warriors flew back blasting apart the ship's thrusters until the reactor gave way to the strain and damage detonating. Another began tearing apart the ship's hull with his bare hands in order to blast apart the internal workings that lay beneath.

Arthur flew through the debris field blasting away at the turrets, only to be caught off guard as a few hidden ones attacked him from behind. His end would have been certain if not for one of his fellow lanterns pulling him out of the line of fire just in time.

His savior and fellow lantern then pushed him again to the side, contorting her body into a conical form she increased her personal shield and rammed through the ship, exiting from the other side.

With the strain and damage too much the ship finally erupted into a massive fireball as the warriors flew out of its blast radius.

Cheers erupted throughout the citadels population, as they watched these unknown heroes take down their foes, though this cheering was not shared by all. The warriors and soldiers looked on at the screens and frowned, recognizing the issues that many overlooked.

"Their rings are powerful," Samara stated, "managing to take down a ship of that magnitude with only four people is no small feet, but that was just one of many."

"Agree with observation, together they took it down, but they face more than one and I doubt that the other ships will be so easy.

"I bet I could do it by myself if I had one of those fancy rings." Everyone turned towards the Krogan in the room while Wrex staired back in confusion, "What? got something in my teeth?"

As they turned back, they saw the rest of the armada converge on their location, their hangers opening to reveal a countless swarm of fighters, their cannons and guns all pointed at Arthur and the others.

"It was too much for them," Samara narrated in the background, as lasers blasted through the void, "for anyone."

One of the ship's blasters hit its mark as one of the lanterns was slammed onto the surface of an orbiting moon, her cloud-like hair bellowing as she impacted the surface. Dazed after being smashed through rock formations she wearily gazed up, her sky-blue eyes widening at the sight of three fighters converging on her. Desperately she pointed her ring forward, blasting apart two fighters.

But it was not enough, as the last fighter emerged unharmed from the cloud of wreckage from the other two. She kept firing but it was too late, the last fighter made a suicide charge ramming into her, and the resulting explosion caught the attention of the remaining warriors. Their eyes widened in shock at what they saw, their comrade lifelessly floating through space, the ring on her finger flying off its now dead wearer back to the remaining others.

It was then they made a choice, They ran.

The previous cheering halted into a dead silence as this happened, many covering their mouths in shock, wide-eyed at what they had witnessed.

Sparatus leaned back into his chair, with a heavy sigh he took a swing of Turian ale before shaking his head in dismay, "They had courage, but. . ." He stared into his drink, trying to find the words to say.

"Retreat was the best course of action." The Salarian councilor said, giving their own two cents into the conversation.

Benezia looked on, in the back of her head something was telling her that this was only the beginning.

Notes:

(A/N: yeah, even though it's cool, soundwaves are incapable of traveling through space, but apparently shockwaves and impact waves are somehow possible and common in space.

Chapter 11: On Hiatus

Chapter Text

Hey y'all, sorry about this, I know this isn't an update any reader likes to hear from an author but it gotta be said, recently I've been in a slump creatively, and I don't know when it'll be back, that and I'm also in the process of rewriting and editing some of these chapters, including getting rid of them.

again I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to put this story on the back burning, I'll get back to it someday, but not soon.

I'll most likely be working on other projects maybe a one-shot here or there.

I'm really sorry everyone.

Chapter 12: New story

Chapter Text

I'm sorry if this isn't the update you wanted to see, but I've recently written the first chapter of a new fanfic that I'm sure would interest a lot of people feel free to check it out in the link

but to those of you wondering how Mass React is doing, well I'm currently working on reformatting it into a multi-story series with each universe they react to being their own separate fic, it's taking a long time, especially with transcribing a whole movie, but on the bright side I get to watch some of my favorite Disney hidden gems.

in the mean time I want to thank you for your support and your appreciation for my writing, it really means a lot to me, more than anyone can imagine, so from the bottom of my heart thank you
