Past? Future? Another Universe?

Summary:

After escaping the Sparrow timeline, the Umbrella Academy finds themselves back to their original timeline... or so they thought.

Meanwhile, the Hargreeves were celebrating the death of their father, when one of them sensed an anomaly in the fabrics of the universe. How will the Umbrella Academy react to their alternate selves? Is the apocalypse inevitable?

Chapter Text

The date is the 25th of March, 2019

Reginald Hargreeves was found dead in his mansion.

Diego had forced them to attend the funeral, so he can get Mom out of that godforsaken house. They agreed.

It had been years since they stepped foot in the academy. Though not much had changed since then. The academy looked the same as it was before they left.

Once they greeted Pogo and Grace, they went to the foyer.

In one universe, Five's portrait would be hanging over the mantlepiece. In another, it was Ben's.

But in this universe, it was Reginald's.

The Hargreeves sat around the bar, opening a bottle from Reginald's collection. They laughed as they drank, celebrating the death of the old man, finally being free from him, once and for all.

Watching Diego throw his knifes at their father's portrait, insulting him in the process, Five laughed and took a sip of his drink, when he felt something odd. He looked around and saw nothing. He brushed it off before the air tightened around him, followed by a buzzing in his head similar to a white noise.

He dropped his glass, which shattered and caught the attention of his siblings. He tried to get up from his seat, before stumbling down onto his knees, hands on his head trying to block out the noise.

"Five! What's wrong??"

Five stayed silent, experiencing sensory overload, when all of a sudden a blue light appeared, followed by a sudden magnetic force, attracting all the metal objects around.

The siblings helped Five up before going to the courtyard to check on the blue glow.

When they got out, they saw a blue glass-like portal.

"What is it?"

"Don't get too close!"

"Yeah, no shit."

"Looks like some sort of temporal anomaly. Either that or a miniature black hole. One of the two."

"Pretty big difference there, Luther!"

The portal grew larger and brighter.

"Woah! Woah, woah."

"Everyone get behind me!"

"Yeah, get behind us!"

Five moved backwards, backing up to the fence, and screamed as he dropped to the ground, hands on the side of his head. He was experiencing a sensory overload but now worse. The constant buzzing of space and the suffocating chill from time was getting more unbearable by the second, while the wall of reality was looming over him, quaking.

Suddenly, five people appeared out of nowhere. They fell out of the portal, and the portal disappeared. The Hargreeves were confused.

"Does anyone else see themselves, or is that just me?"

The doublegangers got up and looked at the Hargreeves.

"Shit."

Chapter Text

Back in the sparrow timeline, the Umbrella Academy had just saved the world once again, with the collaboration of the Sparrow Academy. Not only that, Five found a way to get them back to their 2019. And although it will be a gamble with Five's powers, this time Five had time to find the right equation and had been practicing his time manipulation. With that out of the way, all they have to do now is just leave.

They rested for a bit, talked with the sparrows, said their goodbyes, and left.

They huddled around each other, just like the previous times, and held hands, with the exception of Five, since he needs both hands to use his powers. A flash of blue surrounded them and their off.

Five's Pov

As the blue light surrounded them, Five felt relieved. 'It's finally over.' He thought to himself. They're all alive and going back home.

However, the universe seems to hate Five and his family, so when they jumped, nothing went as planned.

Instead of instantly being transported to the correct timeline, they were stuck in a void. This had never happened before. In all of his previous attempt, it was always instant.

The so called 'void' turned out to be part of Five's powers because a stream of blue suddenly surrounded them, swirling and flowing around them, creating a dome. Through the blue, small tears opened and Five could see the different timelines. It was similar to the infinite switchboard, except you can't control what you see and it's not on a screen.

This was new to Five. He never knew his powers were able to do this, well it was his 4th time time traveling, but to think that he is able to do all this.. It was exhilarating. But of course, something had to go wrong. Larger tears start to open and Five could feel that it was trying to pull them away.

Five was able to maintain his position but his siblings, not so much. He felt his siblings start to pull away from him.

Five tried to tell them to hold on, but his siblings couldn't hear him. He tried to pull them closer but, he couldn't do it. 'curse this 13 year old body'

"NOOOO!!" he shouted as his siblings drift away, out of the blue dome into the empty void.

---

Meanwhile, at the academy, the Hargreeves were in shock. They just saw 5 people come out of a portal, 3 of them looking exactly like their siblings, just a lot more 'beaten up'.

"Shit."

"I thought Five said he had the right equations this time!!!"

"Speaking of Five, where is he?"

That last statement caught the attention of the others. They all stared at the boy wearing a black jacket before looking around to find 'Five'.

The Hargreeves were just standing there, still very confused about the situation, but at the mention of their sibling's name, they moved back and huddled together to try and hide Five, who is still on the ground.

"Hey!" Diego shouted. "I don't know who you are but if you're looking for Five, you have to get through us."

The people stared at them.

"Shit, forgot they were here" said Diego's doubleganger.

"Uh, I think you've got it all wrong.."

The Hargreeves looked confused.

"We're not from here."

Notes:

And that's the end of chapter 2. I would like to note that the outfits that the Umbrella Academy are wearing are based of the photos posted on the official Umbrella Academy Instagram and Twitter, and because the fanfic that the other universe was based off of was before Vanya transition, their Vanya will still be Vanya while the Umbrella Academy's will be Viktor, hence why I mentioned "guy in black jacket". Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I tried to explain the best I can. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

"We're not from here"

"What..?"

The Hargreeves were all confused.

Not from here? It would make sense. They did fall out of a portal, but how is that possible?

"Is it really that surprising?"

"What?" the Hargreeves said collectively, looking at the long-haired guy wearing a yellow shirt.

"I mean, assuming that we're the same, we all have powers. Is it that weird to guess that we're not from here?"

The people looked shocked.

"What! I can be smart too!"

"Whatever but yeah, he's right. I mean looking at our situation right now, I think it's safe to say we're from another universe or somewhere else." said the guy looking like Diego.

There was a moment of silence. Both sides were trying to comprehend the situation.

"So, if you're us from another universe- Wait. Another universe? Shit! Is that why Five was-"

Before he finished that sentence, Diego turned back and ran towards Five, who was still on the ground. The others followed.

"Five!"

"Calm down. Breathe in, breathe out.."

Despite being very out of it, Five followed his words. Inhale. Exhale.

"Yeah, yeah, that's good, in and out."

Once Five calmed down, he looked at his surroundings. He was on the ground knees to his chest, Diego beside him and his siblings hovering over him.

"You okay, bro?" asked Diego before standing up and reaching out a hand towards Five.

"Y-yeah, yeah.. I think I am. Thanks.." Five said, taking Diego's hand.

"Good. Now, if you don't mind, do you know anything about.. this?" Diego asked as he pointed towards the other group.

Five saw 5 figures: A tall, big figure who looks like Luther; a guy looking exactly like Diego; a girl with curly hair with Allison's face; a skinny, long-haired man with a face similar to Klaus'; and a short guy looking like the male version of his sister, Vanya.

Apparently, from what he's heard, they fell out of the blue portal and claimed to be from another universe. Five knew better than anyone about how the universe worked, hell he even wrote a book about it, but travelling across universes was new, even to him. He felt excitement run through his veins.

Umbrella Academy's Pov

The Umbrella Academy stood there as they saw a guy walk up to them after Diego's double pointed at them. He looked at then with curious eyes, before asking the others about the situation. Once they explained it to him, he turned back to the Umbrella Academy and stared at them as if scanning them. A few seconds pass before he spoke.

"Are you positive that you're from another universe?"

The Umbrella Academy looked at one another before looking back at him. "Well, we don't actually know.. Usually Five's the one who knows this kind of stuff.." Viktor said while the others nod in agreement.

The man was confused for a second before realizing something.

"If you are from another universe that means that you're our alternate?"

They nodded.

"I assume that's Klaus, Diego, Allison, Luther, and Vanya?" the man says as he pointed to the long haired man, the guy holding a knife, the girl with curly hair, the guy with a big body, and the guy wearing the black jacket.

"Viktor, actually."

"Oh, well that's different but cool.." the man mumbled as he took a quick glance at Vanya then Viktor.

"Well then, I'm Five but you probably already knew that-"

"..."

"What?" Five asked, confused by their shocked faces.

"I knew it! Five does grow up hot!" Klaus said.

"What do you mean?"

Before they could answer the sound of thunder cut their conversation.

"Why don't we continue this inside?"

---

Once they were inside, they continued the conversation.

"So you didn't time travel when you were 13?"

The Hargreeves all turned to Five.

"You can time travel?" Diego asked.

"I'm... not sure. I haven't tried it before but I probably could.. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember that one time where I almost did."

"I guess that's one difference between our worlds, cause our Five left"

There was a brief silence.

"Did he come back?"

"He did but he came back 17 years later... Wait. What's the date?"

"25th."

"of?"

"March."

"Oh! That means Five-o would've returned yesterday."

"Sorry, but can we please continue the conversation!!" said Five in an annoyed and impatient tone.

"That is totally something he would say." said the other Klaus. Five glared at him.

"Anyways, he came back looking just like when he first left, but he claims to be 58."

"Wait, so he's 58 but 13?" asked one of the Hargreeves.

"He says his consciousness is 58 but he messed up his calculations and is stuck in his 13 year-old body."

"So he spend 45 years in the future?"

"That's what he said."

"Why 45 years?" Ben asked.

The Umbrella Academy didn't answer. It wasn't because it was Ben who asked (they just saw him in the last timeline, even though he was an asshat), but it's because they don't know.

"Shit, we've never asked have we?"

"He told me about it but it's been a while.."

"He was busy with the whole apocalypse thing, so I guess he didn't have the time to tell us nor did we really talk about it."

"I'm sorry, but did I just hear apocalypse!?"

"Right, forgot. Wait a second, this is an alternate universe right? Does that mean the end of the world is coming back?"

"WHAT!?" the Hargreeves said collectively.

Notes:

And that's the end of chapter 3! For reference of how adult Five looks, check out @fierceneon on Twitter. I decided to use their drawings of Five as an image of what adult Five looks like. Also, when I mention Hargreeves, I meant the alternate, not the original Umbrella Academy. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this chapter!

Chapter Text

When he was dropped out of the portal, he found himself in an alleyway. Despite having a massive headache, he got up and walked out of the alleyway. The alleyway led to a sidewalk. It was daytime, so the streets were full of people. After a while, he recognized the shops around and knew that he wasn't far from the academy, around 10 minutes if he walked. Speaking of the academy, where were his siblings? They were supposed to land with him this time. Did they get separated again? He was sure he had the right equations this time.. Did he fail? He brushed off the thought for now and decided that getting to the academy was the best option for now.

As he walked along the streets, he got weird glances from the people. He knew that with how he looked right now, this was bound to happen, but he was still quite annoyed. In the end, he kept to himself since causing a scene would make him stand out more than he already has.

Minutes pass and he found himself infront of the academy's gate. He stared at it for a moment, since this was his first time seeing it properly after the past few weeks. He noticed that the mansion had umbrella markings on it. He smiled. Although it was small and unnoticeable, there was a smile. Suddenly the sky rumbled. He took another moment before finally deciding to enter the house.

He was just about to open the door when he heard sounds coming from inside. He took out the knife that he had brought with him from the sparrow timeline, and quietly open the door. He knew he couldn't use his powers, so he had to fight the old fashioned way. Fortunately, no one heard him open the door.

"WHAT!?"

He stopped. Those were his siblings' voices. Thank god! They were okay, and apparently in the academy, he will ask them about this later. Although he knew that the voices were his 'siblings', he still held the knife in his hand, incase he was wrong.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'END OF THE WORLD'!?"

Five froze. End of the world? Did they bring another doomsday with them again? How long do they have until it happens? Another week? Days? Shitshitshitshitshit SHIT

---

The Hargreeves don't know how to react. The end of the WORLD!? No, that couldn't happen... right?

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'END OF THE WORLD'!?"

Before any of the alternates could answer, a sound came from the hall. It was the sound of a knife hitting the ground. They all turned towards the hall expecting someone or something to barge in, but there was nothing. Both parties waited a few more seconds before getting up and walking to the hall to find out what had made the noise.

Once they exited the foyer, they saw something they would've never expected. There stood a young boy wearing a suit, with a knife on the ground beside him. Well, at least they know where the noise came from, but who the hell was the boy?

"Five?"

Notes:

That's the end of chapter 4! Majority of this chapter was Five's Pov because we haven't heard from him for 3 chapters, so I decided to include my favorite lil assassin this chapter.

Fun fact: I had two versions that I wanted for this chapter but decided on the more canonical one rather than the OOC one. Anyways, hope you enjoyed it!

Chapter Text

"Five?"

The boy who was standing in front of them was Five. Now that they take a closer look, the boy did look like Five when he was that age.

"Five! Where have you been!?" the Umbrella Academy asked, whilst the Hargreeves continue to stare at the boy.

Five didn't respond, in fact he looked as if his mind was somewhere else.

"Five? You with us, buddy?" Klaus asked as he waved his hand in front of Five. That seemed to catch Five's attention since he smacked the hand away from his face.

At that moment, Five finally focused on his surroundings. He was surrounded by people, half being his siblings. For a moment, Five felt relief. Just for a moment though, because the next thing he saw was the other group. They were his siblings too but also not his siblings. 'Doublegangers?' he thought. If he was right then it wouldn't end well. 'Paradox Psychosis should've taken effect by now,' he turned back to his siblings. 'No itching, excessive sweating and no excessive gas.' he noted as he continued to scan the group. He then look back at the "doubles". It was no mistake that they were his siblings, despite the slight differences: Viktor, Ben and that random guy. It could be that they landed in a parallel timeline, but is that even possible?

As much as he would liked to continue his thinking, Five's thoughts were interrupted by the unknown man.

"So this is what you meant when you said that your Five time travelled?"

Five looked at the man who spoke. While the others looked like his siblings, this man is definitely not one of them.

Five then turned to his siblings who seemed to just nod as a response to the man's question. The man proceeds to walk towards Five and said, "So you're my alternate, nice to meet you."

---

After explaining the situation, they all went back to the Foyer to return to continue their previous conversation before Five showed up.

"Alright, so as we were discussing before, which was about you guys mentioning the end of the world, how exactly did the 'world' end?" Five's alternate self asked.

The Umbrellas were quiet. They all looked at each other, as if deciding whether to answer the question or leave them in the dark. Ultimately, it was Five who spoke.

"Well, in our original timeline, I traveled to the future, April 1st 2019, only to find that I was the last man alive. I spent 45 years there before finding the right equations and going back to the 24th of March 2019 in my 13 year old body. Spent the next 8 days trying to stop the apocalypse, only to find out that-" before he continued, he glanced at Viktor who in return gave him a small nod. "-ordinary Number 7 was not ordinary at all. In fact, he might be the most powerful one out of all of us." Five glanced back at Viktor.

The Hargreeves seemed to be taking the information well, this meant that they knew about Viktor's powers.

"In the end, as pieces of the moon start to fall into the surface of the Earth, we used my ability to time travel to go back in time, in an attempt to escape impending doom."

"So Viktor was the cause of the apocalypse?" Alternate Five asked. Five nodded.

"So I'm assuming that you've just recently found out of his powers?" They nodded.

"Well, that's another difference between our worlds. We found out about it when we were younger, though it was by coincidence.." Alternate Five said while staring back at Vanya. Vanya smiled sheepishly. "On that topic, we haven't really finished listing the difference of our universes since it was interrupted by," Alternate Five gestured at Five.

"Shall we continue?" Alternate Five asked. The others nodded.

"So first and far most, your Five time travelled, while I didn't. Second, we found out about Vanya's powers early on, while you guys only found out the previous week-"

"Actually, it's been a few years, months and or weeks for each of us." Viktor interrupted.

"Oh?"

"As I said before, I used my ability to time travel to escape impending doom, however time travel is a crapshoot and the burden of bringing 5, 6 if you count Ben, people messed up my calculations. We all ended up in the 60s but in different time points. Klaus and Ben ended up in 1960, Allison a year later, Luther in 1962, Diego and Viktor in 1963 but in different months, and I arrived on November 25th 1963 in the middle of a nuclear war."

"A nuclear war!? That never happened in the 1960s!" one of the Hargreeves exclaimed.

"Exactly, it was a war that wasn't there until we arrived."

"So I assume you travelled back in time to stop the war from happening?" Alternate Five asked.

"Yes and no. Hazel was the one who brought me back 10 days before the end of the world."

"Hazel?" the Hargreeves looked confused.

Five too was confused before realizing that if he had never time travelled, he wouldn't have been recruited by the Commission. Speaking of the Commission, does it exist in this universe? Most likely yes, since this universe seems to be parallel to his. 'Shit' he thought. If the Commission existed that means that they know that they're here, and might try to "fix" the timeline.

While Five was stuck in his thoughts, the others continue to explain the events that occured before they arrived in the this universe. From the 1960s to the sparrow timeline.

The Hargreeves were left stunned at what the Umbrellas had just said. Though the shock didn't last long as it was interrupted by Five cursing.

"Shit. Shitshitshitshitshit SHIT!!" Five cursed as he held onto his hair.

"Five! What's wrong!?" Allison said in a worried tone.

Five looked up from his fist, which was still on the table, and turned to Allison.

"The-" before he could continue, the sound of the door opening and footsteps could be heard from the hall.

"Shit, they're here."

Notes:

And that's a wrap on chapter 5! This is probably the longest chapter so far haha. Side note: this entire story is based on an alternate season 3, meaning that everything that happened in the sparrow timeline in this fic is not at all what happened in the actual season 3 since this was created before the release. Anyways, hope you enjoyed!

Chapter Text

"Shit, they're here."

Before any of the Hargreeves could move, masked agents barged in and started to shoot at them. Five quickly blinked away from the scene, while the others scattered around the room to dodge the bullets. If it wasn't for the fact that most of their furniture had been specially made for any accidents that might've occured in a household full of superpowered children, the bullets would've shot right through.

While the others were hiding, Five reappeared behind an agent and tackled them. This caused the agents to loose balance and shoot the others. The other agents caught on, and turned their aim towards Five. Five disappeared as the bullets flew towards his direction. He appeared once again, behind the other agents, and used a gun to knock them out.

Just as Five finished off the agents, more agents appeared. Luckily, while Five was busy taking care of them, the rest of the family were able to get out of hiding and prepare themselves to join the fight.

In the end, they were able to take out all of the agents. They thought about capturing one of the agents to interrogate, but before they could do so, the agents disappeared in a blue flash. Everyone was confused. The Umbrellas turned to Five who said, "Commission protocol."

--

"Okay, what the hell was that?" Diego's alternate asked.

"That was the Commission." Five said. The Hargreeves turned to him with confused looks.

"And what is the Commission?"

"An organization that monitors the space-time continuum."

"So why did they attack us?"

"Well, if this universe's Commission is the same as the one in our universe then they were probably trying to eliminate us since we're not supposed to be here."

"And how do you know this?"

"..."

"We've handled them before."

"If that's the case, we should quickly find a way to get you back to your universe before they attack again." Other Five said.

Five nodded in agreement.

"Alright then, let's continue our last conversation again since it keeps getting interrupted." Alternate Five said with a hint of agitation at the end.

"You've already explained what happened in your world, so it's only fair if we explained what happened in ours."

"I'm guessing that our childhood is quite similar as in we were all adopted by Reginald and were raised as the Umbrella Academy." They all nodded.

"With all of us having powers, except for Number 7 who we were told was ordinary, sorry." Alternate Five said while directing the last bit to Vanya.

"The biggest difference between our worlds would be that you time travelled to the future, while I didn't."

Diego raised his hand.

"Yes?"

"Why didn't you time travel?"

"Well, as I said during our first conversation, there was a time where I almost did-"

"Why didn't you go through with it?"

"As I was saying, I almost did but decided not to. The reason being... well, you."

That last part shocked everyone.

"Wait what!?"

"How!?"

"Well, it was during breakfast and I could feel the waters of time pushing me to slam my knife into the table. I wanted to do it. I wanted to see where time could take me, and I almost did but then the moment I raised my hand, I saw you, glaring at me. And although this is embarrassing, I didn't want to hurt you since I knew how much you value knifes and I was reluctant to blunt one in front of you.." Other Five's said, slightly red in the face from embarrassment.

Diego and Five looked at each other for a moment before back at alternate Five.

"I'm assuming that there was an incident that happened which led to this, cause there's no way I would do that." Five stated.

"We're not close in your universe?" Other Diego asked.

"No?"

"Oh.."

"How did you two become close anyways?"

"It was during the aftermath of a certain mission, 'the Bank Incident'."

"There was never a 'Bank Incident' in our universe?" Luther said, looking at the other Umbrellas for confirmation. They all seemed equally confused.

"It was during the early days of the Academy. We were on a mission at the bank. It was a simple robbery.. or so we thought. It turned out to be a set up. Everyone else had been captured except for me."

Alternate Five paused for a moment before continuing.

"I already had a terrible headache, and space was uncooperating. I tried to rip it open but it only made the buzzing louder."

'Buzzing..?' Five thought.

"Diego must've noticed me cause he shouted at me to get my ass up and help them." He said glaring at Diego, who had a slightly guilty look.

"But thanks to that, I had the motivation to stand up and knock down the wall of reality."

"Wall of reality?" The Umbrellas asked.

Alternate Five looked at them confused.

"You know, the large wall, (he said while making hand gestures) the one that shakes everytime Allison uses a rumor?"

That confused the them even more.

"Wait, you don't manipulate reality?" He turned to Five.

"I manipulate space and time."

"Well shit... I thought you had the same powers as me!" Alternate Five exclaimed while smacking his head.

"Wait what?"

"My power is to manipulate the fabrics of the universe: space, time, reality, and dimensions." He replied, using his fingers to count the 4 fabrics of the universe.

"Holy shit, that's so cool!" Klaus said.

"Eh, not so much.."

There was a pause.

"Anyways, now that you know, I'll continue our story. After knocking down reality, it caused an explosion at the bank. Luckily, I was able to channel space and get my siblings and I out. After that I was bedridden for a week."

"The others didn't see Five but I did. The moment he woke up, I asked him about it." Alternate Diego continued as he looked at Five, his Five.

"And that was the turning point of our relationship." Alternate Five smiled and nodded.

"After I told Diego, I told Vanya. She already knew about space, so I told her about reality and dimensions." Vanya nodded silently.

"Now being powerful comes with its own set of problems. Sometimes the world is too much for me to handle. I told Vanya about this and she told me that when the was too loud for her, she takes her pills and it would quiet down."

By this point the Umbrellas knew what happened next.

"So, she offered me one. I took her offer and for the first time, it was quiet. I was ecstatic. But that only lasted for a moment because the next day, Reginald found out that I couldn't use my powers during training and beat me up."

There was silence once again. The Umbrellas glanced at Five, their Five, who just looked away.

"Anyways, that's when I put two and two together and found out that Vanya's medication blocks powers. I told her but she didn't believe me."

Allison flinched.

"However that soon changed. It was dinner time, we were eating, when the lights flickered and swayed. Eventually it fell, which caught the attention of dad. I took the blame for her."

"Thanks, by the way." Vanya said to alternate Five who just smiled back.

"After that, I told Ben. I told him about how the Horror was planning to force its way into our dimension."

The Umbrellas, minus Five, flinched.

"I gave him an offer to seal the horror away forever. He agreed. After our discussion, Klaus fell into the room and demanded to be in the loop, so we told him."

"I assume your plan to seal the Horror worked?"

"Mhm, though it was quite a horrible experience. We had sessions at first, where I would slowly smooth out the dip between the two dimensions, but the horror decided to force it way earlier than expected."

They knew where this was going.

"We were sixteen. During a mission, I released the Horror and things went horribly wrong."

"Everyone was in a state of shock. Hearing your brother's screams... I took it upon myself to do something. I took the center of the dip and pulled. I won't go into detail but it took me three weeks to wake up."

"During those week, we, the people who knew, planned to run away from the academy." Diego said.

"We ran away, bought an apartment, got jobs, and lived our life in the outside world."

"Four months later, Allison called me to tell me her plan to escape. We traded numbers and she left for Hollywood." Klaus said, looking at Allison with a small smile.

"What about Luther?" There was a big difference between the two Luthers. This Luther doesn't have the upper body of an ape.

"I- I got out a few years later and stayed with Five, Klaus, and Ben at their apartment."

"So dad didn't send you to the moon?" Luther asked. Other Luther shook his head.

There was a silence. The Umbrellas were looking at their alternates, thinking that this could've been their lives, that they could've been a family, a real family.

"And now we're back at the academy to celebrate the death of daddy dearest!" Other Klaus exclaimed.

This caught Five's attention. The others might've forgotten but he didn't.

"Reginald's dead?" He asked.

The Hargreeves nodded while saying some comments like 'good riddance', 'finally' and etc.

"What's wrong, Five?" Viktor asked. The others looked at him then at Five.

"The Apocalypse."

Chapter Text

The Apocalypse."

He should've known.

He really should've.

He should've known that the universe was never going to let him off that easily. It should've been obvious. Why else would the Hargreeves return to the academy if it weren't for the funeral for their dear father, Reginal Hargreeves. Even their arrival had been perfectly timed.

"Again!? Seriously..." Klaus exclaimed, sounding a bit annoyed and tired.

"Shit, I knew that there had to be something off." Diego grunted.

"Five, are you sure that there will be another apocalypse?" Viktor asked. Despite the calm and reassuring tone, he knew that Viktor was fuming on the inside.

"Based on everything that has happened, yes, the apocalypse is coming."

"Wait, wait, wait, did you just say the apocalypse is coming?"

"Yup." Five replied, emphasizing the 'p'.

The Hargreeves start to panic. That's anyone's reaction to finding out that the world is ending.

"Wait, how do you know? And if you were right, when will it happen?" Alternate Diego asked.

"If this universe is indeed parallel to ours then it's confirmed that the apocalypse is still going to happen. Reginald's death confirms it. And it will most likely happen on the same date as the one in ours, April 1st 2019."

"Let's rewind a bit, how does his death confirms the end of the world!?" Diego exclaimed, pointing at Reginald's painting.

"Well, in our world, Reginald killed himself to bring us back to the academy, which was oddly perfectly timed with my arrival as well. He's also mentioned that we were going to save the world when we were kids. And since you're world is parallel to ours, it would make sense that he's planned everything once again."

Everyone was stunned. They couldn't believe it. Who would?

"If that's the case, how do we stop it?" Other Five spoke.

"In our universe, Viktor causes the apocalypse." He glances at Viktor, "If that's the case for universe as well, then-"

"Vanya would cause the apocalypse..." Other Five continued.

Five looked at him with a confirming look.

"But how are we sure? I- We- We knew about my powers and we've trained them. H- How am I supposed to end the world?" Vanya said, her voice shaking. The room was shaking too, but not too much that it was noticable.

"That's the problem. Since you have lived different lives from us until this point, we can't be sure that Viktor or Vanya will be the one to cause the apocalypse. The best option we have right now is to keep an eye on both of them."

The room was silent, but Five knew what it meant.

"I suggest we all stay at the academy, incase something might go wrong."

---

After the meeting was adjourned, they all went their separate ways. Everyone agreed that they needed to stay at the Academy until all is well. It's not like the Umbrellas had anywhere else to go, but the Hargreeves of this universe had to get their stuff from their apartment.

Vanya as well as three others went to gather their stuff, Allison had to call her husband to inform him about her stay, and Diego and Five decided to have a talk with the guests.

Five, Diego and Klaus were at the bar, while the rest of them were somewhere else in the academy.

"So.. how do we get you back into your universe?" Five asked other Five, while pouring himself a glass of liquor.

"Aren't you supposed to be the universe expert?" Other Diego asked. Five just shrugged.

"What do you guys do in your universe?" Klaus asked, taking another sip of his drink.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you lived different lives from us, we just wanna know what you do!" and what we could've did.

Other Five and Diego looked at them, curious of their answer.

"I'm a cop." Diego answered.

"Not far off from vigilante (Diego's eyes widened), and Fivey?"

"Don't call me that... I'm a writer."

This received shocked faces from the other party.

"Never thought that Numero Cinco would become a writer! What book did you write?"

Five disappears into space and lands back with a book in hand. He handed the book to them.

"How The Fabrics Of the Universe Will Fuck You Up"

They flipped through the pages. Klaus and Diego lost interest quickly since they didn't understand but Five kept looking through the book.

"Seems like he likes your book," Diego whispered to Five.

"Yeah. I'll let him keep it. I have plenty of copies anyways." Five answered.

Five grabbed the book for himself and kept reading, while the others continued with their questions.

"So... you said that your power is to control the universe right? How does that feel?"

Five tilted his head in confusion.

"You know, having that much power?" Klaus explained.

"Yeah, must be nice huh?" Diego said looking at his glass then Five.

Five was silent, which usually would've been an odd sight but with how different both Fives were, it wasn't much of a shock but still a bit weird.

Five looks at the two, and glances back at his Diego. They look exactly the same (excluding the hair). They sound the same too, but they're completely different people.

Five then turned his head towards his double. They were different. Very different. And it's not because his double is the thirteen year old version of himself, no, it's because they've lived completely different lives.

One was cursed with too much power, while the other was cursed with too much curiosity.

One grew up in society, while the other suffered isolation.

They've both suffered the consequences of their actions, one worse than the other.

And yet, in the end, despite their major difference, they have one thing in common. Something that all the Fives have.

He turned back to Diego and Klaus, "From an outsider's perspective, yeah, it does sound great but if you were the one with this power, would you say the same?"

Diego and Klaus tilted their heads, while his double glanced away from the book, intrigued by the conversation.

Five continued, "Power is both a gift and a curse. At first glance, it's a gift, but if you've lived with it your entire life, it feels more like a curse, doesn't it?"

Silence.

"We all have powers, and assuming we had the same training, you would understand right? Take Klaus' powers for example, in retrospect, speaking with the dead seems like a good power. You could talk to your lost loved ones or solve a crime by asking the victim or ask the ghosts to spy for you, but that power comes with drawbacks too, right? The sleepless nights, constant screams of agony, seeing gruesome images that only you can see-" Klaus stiffened.

"Can you get to the point." His double asked, though it sounded more like an order.

"Right, right, what I'm trying to say is that we all have our ups and downs, and that's me included."

The bar was silent for a moment before the sound of the front door broke it.

"We're back!" Klaus exclaimed as he walked in with Vanya and Ben.

"Where's Luther?" Five asked.

"Oh, he went with Allison when we met her in the hall. So, what were you guys talking about?"

"Not much, just about our lives. That's all." Five replied.

"Seems like you gave the other you a copy of your book," Ben said looking at the other Five.

"Yeah, they asked about our jobs and I grabbed my book to show them." he replied.

"It's a good book." Other Five said, going back to reading the book.

Five smiled at the comment, "You can take it if you want."

"Okay, that's weird, the smile thing. No offense." Other Diego said.

"None taken."

"Anyways, what are the others doing?" Vanya asked.

"Well, you just said Luther and Allison left to go somewhere, Viktor went to his room, the other Luther and Allison probably did the same. They seemed pretty exhausted." Five explained.

"Okay, well we're probably going to wash up and we'll see you at dinner?"

"Sure."
