Return To Hopes Peak: Part 3 of 3

Chapter 11: The Death Of A Foodie (Trial #1 Part 1)

Chapter Text

(Wolfheart)
After hearing Monokuma's announcement, we all made our way to the red door in question.
(Monokuma)
16..17...18! Ok, That's everyone, Just enter this red door, and you'll be inside the elevator leading to the courtroom.
(Torahiko)
Wait, why does a school have an underground courtroom?
(Wolfheart)
Honestly, I wouldn't even bother questioning it at this point; let's just get in the elevator and expose Carl's killer. Otherwise, we'll all meet the same fate.

(Monokuma)
Happy trails, I'll see you guys soon!
(Everyone gets inside the elevator)
(Wolfheart's Pre-Trial Monologue)
Carl seemed so full of life. Who could have possibly killed him; one of the 18 in this elevator knows the answer to that question. The question is why? Who could have endgamed Carl? If what I saw in the trash room was any indicator, I know exactly who killed him.
(The Elevator arrives in the courtroom)
(Walter)
So, this is the courtroom, interesting choice of decoration.
(Flynn)
What's the deal with the portrait? It seems insensitive if you ask me.
(Monokuma)
Sheesh, so many questions! To answer your question, That portrait is a placeholder. It represents where Carl would've stood if he was alive; speaking of which, the rest of you take your assigned seats and stand behind the podium with your names on them.
(Wolfheart)
Now that that's out of the way, I have one final inquiry before we begin, why 20 podiums? Counting the late Carl, we number only 19, so why the blank space?
(Monokuma)
This courtroom was designed with a jury of 20 in mind. That's all there is to it now; if there are no more pointless questions, let's begin with a brief explanation of the trial. You'll all discuss this case and who you think may be the culprit, then once you've come to a consensus, you'll all cast a majority vote; you do know what a majority vote is, right, Wolfheart? To determine who the killer is, vote correctly, and only the blackened will be punished, but if you pick the wrong person, I'll punish everyone besides the blackened, and they'll win the right to graduate.

(Wolfheart)
As much as I appreciate a good video game reference, it's time to get serious. Someone here killed Carl; why don't we talk about that?
(Flynn)
I know Carl; he's too dumb to hurt anyone; I want to know which of you heartless bastards did this.
(Dean)
I'm still confused. What do you mean Carl is dead?
(Dave)
We should probably get everyone who was "sick" caught up.
(William)
Yes, good plan, So we need to start with discussing the motive first.
(Walter)
So for starters, Monokuma announced our motive was the Despair Disease.
(Juuichi)
It flip-flops the personality of whoever was targeted specifically that day.

(Wolfheart)
Monokuma initially infected all of us and, over time, activated the symptoms individually.
(Kenji)
Monokuma started with 2 people on the first day. Dean and Torahiko were the first to be affected by the motives activation.
(Orlando)
Then the following day, it was 1 person a day until he got impatient on day 3 and went back to 2 a day.
(Kyrex)
The next ones affected by the motive in order were: Carl, Oscar, and Shoichi.
(Volga)
Obviously, we know what happened to Carl; his carefree, relaxed attitude made him the perfect victim like Monokuma intended.
(Shoichi)
So what do we do next? We've discussed the motive; that's all there is to it.

(Oscar)
Now that we've caught everyone up to speed regarding the motive, We should discuss the Monokuma File.
(Wolfheart)
Yes, According to the Monokuma File, the victim was killed by a blow to the head, died at 11 PM, and was found in the laundry room by Dave, William, and Myself; where do we go from there?
(Flynn)
Maybe we look at what caused the fatal injury, we know it was a blunt object, and Monokuma did give each of us a special weapon.
(William)
Right, we can rule out the 3 who discovered the body since my weapon was a gun, Wolfheart was given a knife and poison, and Dave was given a crowbar, but he's clear because he found the body. So that brings us down to 15 suspects. We can reduce the list further by eliminating anyone who didn't have a blunt object as their weapon.
(Flynn)
So who else can we rule out?
(William)
According to the list I have here: Flynn, Dom, Cameron, Walter, and Oscar were all given random objects that were fake and had hidden blades inside them, and we know the victim wasn't stabbed. We can also eliminate Kenji since he had a joy buzzer. That leaves: Orlando, Dean, Torahiko, Juuichi, Volga, Shoichi, Kryex, Grant, and Hiro, as potential suspects since they were all given blunt objects.
(Wolfheart)
So why don't we have the 9 in question give us their alibis?
