Return To Hopes Peak: Part 3 of 3

Chapter 67: Betrayed In The End (Trial #7 Ending/Execution)

Chapter Text

(Wolfheart)

You're the Culprit, Gil.

(Gil)

How am I the Killer? Please enlighten me; we both have solid alibis; I was with you in the pool when Oscar was murdered.

(Walter)

It's true Gil has a rock-hard alibi; you were with him, remember?

(William)

But I think Wolfheart does have a point; Oscar's dying message was a capital G, the first letter of Gil's name,

(Gil)

Explain How I'm the killer; I'm genuinely confused?

(Wolfheart)

Remember the stolen items, Gil? You deliberately placed your Whistle in my locker to pin the blame on me, and you also Stole Walter's compass and stole My stuff to kill Oscar.

(Gil)

I'm not a klepto. I didn't steal anything,

(Wolfheart)

Yes, you did; you just don't remember, and also, You have a pretty big motive to kill Oscar even if you're not the Mastermind, Your the jealous type; you couldn't stand the fact that Oscar had a crush on Walter, but you couldn't let Oscar get between you and Walter, so you took Oscar out of the equation permanently. Here's everything that happened in this case!

(Closing Argument)

(Wolfheart)

It all started yesterday when Monokuma revealed the Final Motive: That one of the 6 of us was the Mastermind. Immediately we all began to cast stones at one another; the most important accusation came from the Culprit. The Culprit was adamant that Oscar was the Mastermind. The following day The Culprit put their plan into action. After overhearing my conversation with Oscar, The Culprit used the secret meeting between Walter and Oscar as the setting for their murder. While I was changing in the locker room, The Culprit took their whistle and placed it inside my locker; after seeing my Gifts from Monokuma, the Culprit knew what they had to do. In an attempt to Frame Walter, the Culprit placed the compass they stole from his room inside their own locker. Once their prep work was done, the Culprit stole a bottle of Champagne from the Casino on the 3rd floor and a couple of cocktail glasses for good measure. Just before Noon, the Culprit met Oscar in the Library and decided to help Oscar calm his nerves before the big moment.

After Pouring up the two glasses of Champagne, The Culprit spiked Oscar's drink with the Strike 9 Poison they had stolen from me; once Oscar had died, the Culprit Stabbed Oscar for good measure. Unfortunately, what the Culprit hadn't realized was that Oscar had just enough strength left to write a single letter on the ground near them, a Capital G, in a last-ditch effort to give themselves a half-assed alibi, the Culprit followed me to the pool, and attempted to get me to go skinny dipping with them.

Meanwhile, Walter, having overslept and missed his alarm, quickly woke up and ran upstairs to meet with Oscar for their secret meeting; once Walter arrived in the Library and saw Oscar was dead, he panicked and ran straight for the Pool where The Culprit and I were arguing, about the rules. Walter ran in and told us about Oscar, the three of us ran into the Library, where the BDA went off. Once Grant and William had joined us, The Culprit knew it was only a matter of time before they were caught. Deny it all you want, but you can't escape the truth. The one who killed Oscar, The Ultimate Novelist, was, in fact, you, Gilbert, The Former Ultimate Coach!

(Walter)

No, that can't be Coach Gil, would never.

(Monokuma)

If no one else has any interjections, then let's proceed with the voting. Now begins the heart-pounding excitement as the Blackened and Spotless Face Off; what will it be? Will you make the right choice or the Dreadfully wrong one? And Remember, make triple sure you voted; failure to vote will result in punishment.

(Voting Breakdown. Wolfheart: 2 Votes, Gil: 3 Votes)

(Monokuma)

Well, this is interesting; for the first time ever, you got it wrong. The Blackened who Killed Oscar, the Ultimate Novelist, was NOT Gil, The Former Ultimate Coach. The Real Blackened has won the Game and has won the right to graduate; everyone else will be punished.

(Grant)

Wait, we were tricked? I thought Gil was the Killer.

(William)

I can't believe this.

(Gil)

Wait, everyone, including the others? But I'm the one who they voted for. Can't you just punish me and let the others leave?

(Monokuma)

Oh, the denial is so adorable. Unfortunately, you know the rules, and so do I. The Blackened successfully deceived all of you and has won; get your popcorn ready, Wolfheart; this will be a good one, don't worry; I've provided multiple screens so you won't get whiplash.

(Wolfheart)

Well, cats out of the bag, I guess. Yes, I'm the real Culprit. I poisoned Oscar and framed Gilbert; enjoy your executions! Go Ahead, Monokuma, whenever you're ready.

(William)

You two-faced bastard! You won't get away with this!

(Grant)

No, it can't end like this; there has to be another way.

(Monokuma)

Sheesh, less talking, more suffering. I've prepared very special punishments for Gil, William, Grantly, and Walter, The Ultimate Pathfinder, Ultimate Sherriff, Ultimate Equestrian, and Former Ultimate Coach. Let's give it everything we've got; It's punishment time!

(Monokuma slams his gavel down on the red button by his chair)

*Game Over: Walter, Gil, William, and Grantly have been found guilty; Time for the Punishment*

Lost, In The Woods: Ultimate Pathfinders Execution, Executed; Horsing Around: Ultimate Equestrians Execution, Executed; Wanted Dead or Alive: Ultimate Sheriffs Execution Executed; Overtime: Former Ultimate Coaches Execution Executed*

(Wolfheart)

I watched as multiple chains came out from the wall and dragged all of them away into separate execution rooms; lucky for me, Monokuma provided multiple screens. Walter is dropped in a maze and has to reach the center to escape; Grant is tied to a post while a stampede of wild mustangs comes ever closer to him. William is caught up in the middle of a wild west Duel against a horde of cowboy Monokumas, and Gil is on a Basketball Court that goes up in flames, and the only way to escape is by climbing the Basketball Goal. I could have let it all play out and taken my win, but that's not the dramatic ending I want.

I want to see the despair on their faces firsthand when they realize the truth of their situation, A much more satisfying ending for An Ultimate Despair Like Me. So rather than just taking my win and killing 19 people, I chose to have one final showdown, give them one last glimmer of Hope before I crush them with their inevitable despair. I decided to intervene; I activated Monokumas Self destruct sequence and canceled the Execution Protocols just before they were all mere inches away from death: Before The Walls of the maze closed in on Walter before The Horses stomped in Grant's face, Before the bullets hit William, and before the fire overtook Gil, a trapdoor opened up beneath them all dropping them all safely in the sub-basement beneath the morgue.
