Chapter Text

Again They Rise

Character Info: Jason Voorhees

Real Name: Jason Voorhees

Occupation: Serial Killer

Abilities: Jason is extraordinarily durable, being able to shrug off injuries that would be fatal to the average person. This combined with his inhuman strength and stamina, as well as his surprising cunning, make him a force to be reckoned with.

Weapons: His murders are typically carried out with his signature machete, but he has also been known to use axes, pickaxes, pitchforks; basically, anything he can get his hands on.

Biography: On one fateful day, a young, deformed boy tragically drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. Not long after, the camp would be plagued by a series of murders, perpetrated by Jason’s grief-stricken mother, Pamela. But even after Pamela’s death, the murders didn’t stop. A new killer was now stalking Camp Crystal Lake, and it was none other than Jason himself, back from the dead to avenge his beloved mother.

First Appearance: Friday the 13th (1980)

Voice Actor: N/A (Jason)/Jennifer Ann Burton (Pamela Voorhees)

Theme Inspiration: Theme from Friday the 13th and Theme from Friday the 13th, Part 3 by Harry Manfredini/TGIH (Thank God It's Halloween) by Therewolf Media (Destiny Battle: VS. Michael Myers)

Power Grid

Intelligence: 2/7
Strength: 3/7
Speed: 2/7
Stamina: 5/7
Energy Projection: 1/7
Fighting Ability: 2/7

Costumes

  • Friday the 13th Part 3 Appearance [Color References: Roy Burns, Friday the 13th (NES)]
  • Friday the 13th Part 2 Appearance
  • Uber Jason (DLC)
  • Kirk, Knight of Thorns (Cosplay)

Moveset & Playstyle

Jason is a relentless pursuer, focusing on getting close to his victims before brutally cutting them down. Though he isn’t particularly fast or mobile, most of his special moves grant him armour and cross a fair bit of distance, giving his opponents little chance of escape. However, his main defining feature is his ability to make use of various weapons strewn around the battlefield, making him an unorthodox and fairly tricky take on a stance character.

Special Moves & Unique Mechanic

Camp Tools: Jason can fight wielding either a machete or an axe, as well as with his bare hands. However, Jason cannot cycle through these stances at will, and can only wield one weapon at a time, forcing him to drop one and pick up the other in order to use them. He starts each match wielding the machete, with the axe being located between himself (or his partner) and his opponent at the start of the match.

  • Bleed: Jason has the ability to impale his opponent with his axe or machete, which leaves them stuck in their body for a short period of time. While impaled, the opponent’s health bar slowly drains, which is represented as provisional damage.
  • Pick Up Weapon: When near his machete or axe, Jason can pick it up.
  • Drop Weapon: Jason throws his current weapon aside in order to fight with his bare hands.

Campground Slasher: Jason advances while slashing with his machete, hitting the opponent three times. The strength of the attack button determines the distance that Jason travels, as well as the speed of his slashes: the light version is the fastest, but covers the least distance and deals the least damage; conversely, the medium and heavy version each cover more distance and deal more damage, at the cost of Jason’s swings being much slower.*

  • Final Friday: An optional follow-up move to Relentless where Jason chops into the opponent's shoulder and kicks them away with his machete still stuck in their shoulder. The machete will remain lodged in their shoulder for some time and cause them to take Bleed damage until it falls off.
  • EX Version: Functions similarly to the heavy version, albeit with a hit of armour and increased damage.
  • If Jason is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead after being defeated while wielding his machete, he will perform this move.

Relentless: A command grab where Jason reaches out and takes hold of the opponent’s shoulder and stabs them in the gut with his machete before he knocks them away. The strength of the button pressed determines the grab’s initial reach, as well as the damage dealt.

  • Light: Jason simply stabs the opponent once before he kicks them away.
  • Medium: Jason stabs the opponent twice before he kicks them away.
  • Heavy: Jason stabs the opponent twice before he lifts them off the ground and punches them off his machete.
  • Gutted: An optional follow up to Relentless where Jason drives his machete deeper into the opponent’s stomach before he knocks them away. The machete will remain lodged in their stomach for some time and cause them to take Bleed damage until it falls out.
  • EX Version: After stabbing the opponent in the gut, Jason throws them to the ground and brutally stomps on their face. Has the same range as the heavy version, as well as dealing increased damage.
  • Brutality: Upon performing Gutted, Jason will drag his machete up while it is still impaled in the opponent, splitting open their stomach and chest, but not going far enough to fully cut them in half. He then pulls his machete out and leaves his victim to fall to the ground.

Machete Toss: Jason throws his machete at his opponent. Unlike most projectiles, the machete will lodge itself in the opponent upon a successful hit, causing Bleed damage. If it misses or if it is blocked, it will fall to the floor, forcing Jason to pick it up.

  • Up Machete Toss: Throws his machete up at an angle, which then falls at an arch after reaching its apex. The machete becomes inactive upon hitting the ground.

Axe to Grind: Jason slams his axe down on the ground in front of him, knocking opponents down. The strength of the button pressed determines the move’s speed and damage output; in addition, the heavier versions have Jason move slightly in front of him before swinging his axe.

  • Chop Chop: An optional follow-up to Axe to Grind where Jason swings his axe down on his opponent’s back after knocking them down. The axe will remain lodged in their back for some time and cause them to take Bleed damage until it falls out.
  • EX Version: Functions similarly to the heavy version, albeit with much faster start-up.
  • If Jason is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead after being defeated while wielding his axe, he will perform this move.

I’m a Lumberjack, You’re Not Okay: A command grab where Jason pulls the opponent towards him before chopping into their midsection using his axe; he then pulls his weapon out and chops into their shoulder before kicking them away. The strength of the button pressed determines the grab’s initial reach, as well as the damage dealt.

  • Sleep Forever: An optional follow up to I’m a Lumberjack, You’re Not Okay where Jason leaves the axe embedded in his opponent’s shoulder before he knocks them away. The axe will remain lodged in their shoulder for some time and cause them to take Bleed damage until it falls out.
  • EX Version: Jason chops into the opponent’s shoulder with enough force to force them to their knees, then knocks them down on their face. Has the same range as the heavy version, as well as dealing increased damage.
  • Brutality: After chopping into the opponent’s midsection, Jason continues to chop into the opponent like a tree, eventually cutting them in half.

Axe Toss: Jason throws his axe at his opponent. Unlike most projectiles, the axe will lodge itself in the opponent upon a successful hit, causing Bleed damage. If it misses or if it is blocked, it will fall to the floor, forcing Jason to pick it up.

  • Up Axe Toss: Throws his axe up at an angle, which then falls at an arch after reaching its apex. The axe becomes inactive upon hitting the ground.
  • Brutality: If the opponent is standing when they are hit by the axe, it will be embedded in their forehead, killing them instantly.

Power Forward: While barehanded, Jason rushes forward and throws a haymaker that knocks his opponent away. The strength of the button pressed determines the distance Jason travels before he throws his punch, with light covering the least ground and heavy covering the most.*

  • Check to the Head: A variation of Power Forward where Jason will swing his fist down on the opponent’s head.
  • Low Puck: A variation of Power Forward where Jason performs a low punch that hits the opponent in the stomach.
  • EX Version: Jason rushes directly towards the opponent before throwing his punch, with a successful hit resulting in a wall bounce. Also grants Jason a hit of super armour.
  • Brutality: Upon landing any version of Power Forward, Jason will punch the opponent hard enough to knock their head clean off their shoulders, causing it to fly towards the camera and crash straight into it, “cracking” the screen on impact.
  • If Jason is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead after being defeated while barehanded, he will perform this move. The player can choose which variation Jason performs upon summoning him.

Happy Camper: While barehanded, Jason grabs the opponent and brutally punches them in the gut before he uppercuts them into the air. The strength of the button pressed determines the grab’s reach, with light having the least and heavy having the most.

  • EX Version: Functions similarly to the Heavy version, albeit with much faster start-up time.
  • If Jason grabs the opponent while they’re still impaled with either his machete or his axe, he will pull it out after punching them in the gut and perform an upward slash with it, knocking them into the air. This greatly increases the move’s damage.
  • Brutality: Jason punches the opponent straight through the chest and pulls out his fist, leaving behind a gaping hole.
  • Secret Brutality: If Jason’s machete or axe is still impaled in his opponent, he will punch them in the gut to disorient them, then retrieve his weapon and use it to decapitate them in a single slice.

Lake Mist: Jason walks into a cloud of mist that appears in front him. He can then reappear either in front of or behind his opponent.

Note: When the Knight of Thorns skin is equipped, Jason’s machete is replaced with the Barbed Straight Sword and his axe is replaced with a Battle Axe.

Throws

Forward (Machete): Jason grabs the opponent, pulls them in close and slits their throat, watching as they fall to the ground.

  • Brutality: As the opponent grasps at their neck in an attempt to stop the bleeding, Jason swings his machete into the opponent’s face, leaving it embedded in their skull even as they fall over dead.

Backward (Machete): Jason slices the opponent across the stomach, leaving them to fall to their knees and attempt to crawl away from him. They only make it a short way before Jason stabs them in the back and steps away, leaving his opponent sprawled on the floor.

Crouching (Machete): While his opponent is crouching, Jason reaches down, grabs the opponent by the face and shoves them onto their back before hacking away at their body with his machete.

Forward (Axe): Jason hits the opponent over the head with the end of his axe’s handle, bringing them to their knees, then swings at them with his axe to knock them down.

  • Brutality: While the opponent is on their knees, Jason chops their head open with his axe.

Backward (Axe): Jason drives his axe into the opponent’s stomach, then swings it again while it’s still stuck in the opponent, sending them flying behind him.

Crouching (Axe): While his opponent is crouching, Jason reaches down, grabs the opponent by the face and shoves them onto their back before bringing his axe down on their chest.

Forward (Barehanded): Jason takes the opponent in a bear hug and tightly squeezes them until their spine cracks, after which he throws them away.

  • Note: This throw can be extended to have Jason squeeze his opponent up to three times before he throws them away.

Backward (Barehanded): Jason lifts the opponent up by the neck before lifting them over his head and slamming their back on his knee, after which he throws their body away.

  • Brutality: After Jason lifts the opponent above his head, he instead pushes their lower and upper bodies together with enough force to break them in half, after which he drops their two halves to the floor.

Crouching (Barehanded): While his opponent is crouching, Jason reaches down, grabs the opponent by the face and shoves them onto their back before brutally slamming their head into the ground several times.

Super Art: Kill For Mother

Jason reaches forward and grabs the opponent by the neck, choking them for a few seconds before he picks up a nearby sleeping bag and shoves his opponent into it. While his victim thrashes around inside, Jason starts slamming the sleeping bag around, continuing until his opponent’s screaming is reduced to little more than a whimper. After one final slam, Jason retrieves his machete and stabs his victim through the sleeping bag, dragging his weapon down and ripping it open. To conclude the animation, he reaches inside the bloodied bag and pulls out the opponent’s limp body, observing them for a moment before he brutally throws them away.

  • Brutality: After stuffing the opponent in a sleeping bag, Jason reaches off-screen and drags in another bloodied sleeping bag, which he proceeds to slam onto his latest victim again and again.  This continues until they stop thrashing inside and go completely still, which is when Jason drops the sleeping bag he had been using to bludgeon them and unzips theirs, revealing his opponent’s bloodied, lifeless face. Satisfied that his victim is dead, Jason turns to walk away, which is when the camera pans down to show the two sleeping bags. At this point, the second bag has also been unzipped, revealing the one inside - the victim’s defeated partner.

Hidden Super Art: Jason Lives

When Jason is defeated, they have a brief window to resurrect him. Upon a successful activation, Jason is struck by a bolt of lightning (which can also damage nearby opponents) and snaps back up as horror strings play in the background, rising to his feet to continue the fight. The amount of health Jason regains is dependent on how many bars of meter the player sacrifices upon activation (One bar gives 10%, two bars give 20% and three bars give 30% ).

Personal Actions

Intro: Jason emerges from a cloud of mist holding his trademark machete and upon spotting the opposing team, Jason tilts his head to the side. If Jason appears first, he will raise his machete and bring its blade close to his face as an ominous string plays in the background.

Taunt #1: Jason fully faces the opponent and tilts his head to the side before returning to his usual position.

Taunt #2: Jason simply cracks his neck before turning his attention back to the fight. Each repetition of this taunt increases Jason’s defence by 5%, which can be stacked up to three times. This effect lasts for the rest of the match.

Respect #1: Jason reaches behind him and pulls out one of three weapons that had been impaled in his back, which he briefly inspects before throwing it away. The three possible weapons are a knife, a crossbow bolt or one of Freddy Krueger’s hands.

Respect #2: Jason takes off his mask/helmet and looks down on it while the voice of his late mother, Pamela, can be heard speaking to him. If the animation plays out in full, he will put the mask/helmet back on; if the player holds the down button, he will throw it away for the rest of the fight.

Victory Pose: Jason lumbers over to his defeated opponent and simply looks down at them. This animation has a few hidden variations.

  • If Jason defeats his opponent normally, he will stomp on their face in an effort to finish them off.
  • If Jason defeats his opponent while one of his weapons is still stuck in them, he will pull it out of their body before he continues on his way.
  • If Jason defeats his opponent with a Brutality, he will only momentarily pause before he continues walking.

Victory Pose (If at 20% health or lower): Jason takes hold of one of his shoulders and pops it back into place before cracking his neck, after which he simply turns to stare towards the camera. If Jason is holding a weapon, he will drop it to the ground before performing the animation.

Time Over: Jason simply stares at the opponent before he turns and walks away. If he is holding one of his weapons when the clock runs out, he will drop it along the way.

Game Over/Continue: A tombstone with Jason’s name crudely written on it in white paint is seen next to his defeated partner, with his machete impaled in the ground next to his grave. If the player chooses to continue, a lightning strike hits the grave and soon after, Jason’s arm bursts out of the ground, after which he rises from the grave, retrieves his machete and prepares to continue the fight.

Quotes

Note: Jason does not speak in game. However, the voice of his mother, Pamela Voorhees, can be heard at certain points.

Character Info: The Chosen Undead

Real Name: Unknown

Occupation: Adventurer

Weapons: The Chosen Undead can make use of many different weapons and tools throughout their journey: swords, daggers, axes, hammers, spears, bows, shields and much, much more. Each of these weapons can be further strengthened using smithing stones and through the Undead’s own skills and attributes.

Abilities: As an undead, they are returned to life upon death, reforming at the last Bonfire they rested at. They are also capable of absorbing the souls of those they slay, and using said souls in order to strengthen themselves. This allows them to improve their skill in combat, as well as their aptitude in sorcery, pyromancy, miracles and various other disciplines.

Biography: In the land of Lordran, a prophecy foretold the arrival of an undead champion, one who would undertake a pilgrimage to the land of the Ancient Lords and ultimately, succeed the exalted Lord Gwyn by linking the First Flame and perpetuating the Age of Fire. And from the depths of an ancient asylum, a lone undead would emerge and begin a journey across Lordran. Could this be the warrior destined to link the Fire? Or will they be the one to finally usher in the Age of Dark? Only time will tell.

Moveset & Playstyle

Unlike most characters on the roster, the Chosen Undead does not have a single defined moveset. Instead, when they are selected, the player can choose between four preset “classes”; the Knight, the Pyromancer, the Cleric and the Sorcerer. Each class gives the Undead a unique right-handed weapon, which alters their normals, and a left-handed weapon, which provides a set of special moves unique to that class. While the Undead does have a handful of special moves that appear in each class, they provide a unique gameplay experience, and with enough trial and error, a player will find which one compliments their playstyle the best.

Special Moves

(Universal Moves)

Stance Switch: The Chosen Undead puts away their left-hand weapon and wields their right-hand weapon with two hands. Doing this grants them an altered moveset and greatly increases the damage dealt by their normal attacks. However, they cannot utilize any special moves associated with their left-hand weapon in this state, requiring players to switch back and forth between their stances in order to make full use of their moveset.

Dodge Roll: The Chosen Undead rolls either forward or backward, granting them almost total immunity to damage. This can be used to avoid projectiles and even physical attacks; if the Undead is close enough to their opponent, they can even roll past them in order to switch sides with them.

Rolling Attack: After performing a forward roll, the Chosen Undead can perform a simple follow-up attack with their main weapon, which changes based on their chosen class. This move can be performed in either stance.

  • Knight: Performs a vertical swing with their sword.
  • Pyromancer: Quickly spins around while swinging Queelag’s Furysword.
  • Cleric: Swings the Dragonslayer Spear upward.
  • Sorcerer: Smashes the Moonlight Greatsword into the ground.

Estus Flask: The Chosen Undead takes a drink from their Estus Flask, which restores a small portion of their health (about 10%). This can only be done three times before they empty their flask, with the number of remaining charges being represented by a small icon below their health bar; if the player attempts to drink from it after running out of charges, a short animation will play where the Undead turns the flask over, leaving them vulnerable.*

  • Note: Not available in the Cleric class.

Leaping Attack: The Chosen Undead leaps forward a short distance and performs an attack with their weapon, with the properties changing depending on the chosen class. This move can be performed in either stance.

  • Knight: Drives their sword into the ground.
  • Pyromancer: Performs a horizontal swing with Queelag’s Furysword.
  • Cleric: Thrusts the Dragonslayer Spear forward.
  • Sorcerer: Smashes the Moonlight Greatsword into the ground, which knocks opponents down.
  • EX Version: Increases the move’s start-up speed and damage output, as well as granting a hit of meter. Applies regardless of the player’s chosen class.

Plunging Attack: While in the air, the Chosen Undead drops down while aiming their weapon downward. A successful hit will knock down standing opponents and will drive airborne opponents into the ground.  This move can be performed in either stance.

  • Brutality: Upon hitting a standing opponent, the Chosen Undead will cleave the opponent in half down the middle.

Knight Class

In this variation, the Chosen Undead wields Astora’s Straight Sword in their right hand and a Crest Shield in their left hand. This is their default class and by far the most straightforward, focusing primarily on close-quarters fighting.

Stance: While wielding Astora’s Straight Sword with both hands, the Chosen Undead enters a stance where they hold their sword at the ready. From here, they can perform several follow up moves.*

  • A dashing forward thrust that can then be followed up by one of the Chosen Undead’s normals. Hits mid.
  • An upward slash that knocks the opponent into the air for a combo. Can also be used to break an opponent's guard. Hits high.
  • A forward flip that ends with them slamming their sword into the ground, knocking opponents down on a successful hit. Hits overhead.
  • Brutality: Upon hitting the opponent with their flipping attack, the Undead stabs the opponent through the back with their sword, then drives it deeper while they are squirming beneath them.
  • If the Chosen Undead is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead with the Knight class selected, they will perform this move.

Shield Guard: The Chosen Undead puts up their shield, allowing them to block incoming attacks. They can freely move either forwards or backwards while in this state, and any damage they take is converted into white health. If the Chosen Undead takes more than three hits with their shield up, their guard will be broken and they will be left vulnerable for a few precious seconds.

  • Sword Thrust: While their shield is up, the Chosen Undead can thrust their sword forward to hit their opponent. Hits mid.
  • Sword Smash: While their shield is up, the Chosen Undead can swing their sword down over the opponent’s head. Hits overhead.
  • Sword Sweep: While their shield is up, the Chosen Undead can slice at the opponent’s feet with their sword, tripping them. Hits low.
  • EX Version: Increases the amount of hits the Chosen Undead can absorb to four and reduces the amount of chip damage they take.
  • Brutality: If the opponent is hit by Sword Sweep, the Chosen Undead cuts off his opponent’s legs, leaving them to crawl away before they bleed out.

Parry: With their shield equipped, the Chosen Undead uses it to parry incoming physical attacks; upon a successful parry, the opponent will be left in a stunned state, leaving them open for combos. Which moves are parryable vary from character to character, but they typically work on most standing normals and non-EX special moves (excluding projectiles).

Pyromancy Class

In this variation, the Chosen Undead wields Quelaag's Furysword in their right hand and a Pyromancy Flame in their left hand. As the name suggests, the Undead gains several high damaging pyromancy moves, while their Furysword serves as the fastest of their potential weapons.

Chaotic Frenzy: When wielding Queelag’s Furysword with both hands, the Chosen Undead spins around while advancing forward, leaving a trail of flames behind with each swing. The strength of the button pressed determines the distance the Undead travels while swinging, as well as the strength of the swings themselves. Light covers the least ground and deals the least damage, while the medium and heavy versions cover significantly more ground and deal more damage, with the heavy version knocking opponents away.

  • EX Version: Functions similarly to the heavy version, albeit with significantly faster start-up. The final slash also pops the opponent up for a combo.
  • Brutality: As the Undead swings at the opponent, he cuts them in half at the waist, then again halfway up the opponent's torso and with their last swing, chop off their head.

Evasive Sting: When wielding Queelag’s Furysword with one hand, the Chosen Undead slashes at the opponent before performing an evasive handflip.

Fireball: The Chosen Undead hurls a fireball at the opponent, which explodes upon impact.*

  • Light: Throws a small fireball, which travels the furthest out of the three options while dealing the least damage.
  • Medium (Fire Orb): Throws a larger fireball, which covers less distance while thrown, but deals significantly more damage.
  • Heavy (Great Fireball): The largest of the three projectiles and covers the least distance when thrown, but deals the most damage.
  • EX Version (Chaos Great Fireball): Functions similarly to the heavy version, albeit with a faster cast speed and increased damage. In addition, the fireball leaves behind a small pool of lava upon exploding, which deals damage for as long as the opponent stands on it.
  • Brutality: After being hit by a fireball, the opponent’s entire body is set on fire, leaving them to flail their arms and scream before they fall on their back, not little more than a charred husk.
  • If the Chosen Undead is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead with the Pyromancy class selected, they will perform this move.

Combustion: The Chosen Undead holds their Pyromancy Flame out in front of them, creating an explosion that knocks opponents away. The strength of the button pressed determines the size of the blast, as well as the “cast time”; light produces the fastest and least damaging blast, while heavy produces the slowest, but most powerful one.

  • EX Version (Great Combustion): The Chosen Undead creates a large blast in front of them, knocking opponents into the air upon a successful hit.

Poison Mist: The Chosen Undead spews out a cloud of poison mist in front of them, which lingers for a few seconds and poisons the opponent if they step into it. The strength of the button pressed determines how long the cloud stays on screen, as well as how long the opponent stays poisoned.

  • EX Version (Toxic Mist): The Chosen Undead spews a cloud of toxic mist in front of them, which takes on a darker shade of purple compared to its poison counterpart. If the opponent steps into the mist, they will take more damage overtime compared to Poison Mist.
  • Cannot be blocked, but also cannot be used to KO the opponent.

Cleric Class

In this variation, the Chosen Undead wields the Dragonslayer Spear in their right hand and the Sunlight Talisman in their left hand. The Cleric is perhaps the most unorthodox of the four classes, with its weapon granting the Undead the greatest range, while also gaining access to Miracles that allow them to take on a more supportive role in their team.

Lightning Charge: The Chosen Undead channels lightning into the Dragonslayer Spear and charges forward, releasing the sparks after a set distance. The strength of the button pressed determines the distance the move covers.

  • Brutality: The Chosen Undead skewers the opponent on the spear, then lifts them overhead and channels a massive amount of lightning through their weapon. They then throw the opponent’s charred body away.

Dragonslayer Thrust: The Chosen Undead channels electricity into the weapon and thrusts it upward, knocking opponents into the air. The strength of the button pressed determines the speed and range of the thrust.

  • EX Version: Functions similarly to the heavy version, albeit with much faster start-up and an extra hit for additional damage.

Wrath of the Gods: The Chosen Undead generates a powerful shockwave that knocks opponents away and reflects projectiles.

  • Emit Force: A follow up move to Wrath of the Gods where the Chosen Undead shoots a ball of force energy towards the opponent, which explodes upon contact.
  • EX Version: Creates a larger shockwave, as well as greatly reducing the move’s “cast time”.

Lightning Spear: The Chosen Undead hurls a crackling lightning bolt at the opponent.

  • Light: The smallest and weakest version of the move, but by far the fastest.
  • Medium: Larger and stronger than the light version, with respectable speed.
  • Heavy (Great Lightning Spear): Produces a larger, more powerful Lightning Spear, which also has the longest cast time.
  • EX Version (Sunlight Spear): Similar to the Heavy version, but the spear takes on an orange hue and deals far more damage, as well as having faster cast time.
  • Brutality: Upon being hitting the opponent, the spear goes straight through their chest, leaving behind a bloody cavity.

Heal: The Chosen Undead kneels down and clutches their talisman, creating a healing circle around themself that restores their health. If the Undead’s partner is tagged in as they are performing this move, their health will also be restored.*

  • This move fully replaces the Estus Flask, and similarly has only three charges.
  • If the Chosen Undead is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead with the Cleric class selected, they will perform this move.

Sorcerer Class

In this variation, the Chosen Undead wields the Moonlight Greatsword in their right hand and Logan’s Catalyst in their left hand. In this class, the Undead gains access to a myriad of powerful spells; as such, it is the most focused on zoning and keepaway. The Moonlight Greatsword, by far the heaviest of their weapons, also fits into this gameplan, boasting fairly extensive range and the ability to cast projectiles even in its two-handed stance.

Moonlight Vortex: While wielding the Moonlight Greatsword with both hands, the Chosen Undead thrusts it forward, unleashing a burst of magic that knocks opponents away on a successful hit. The strength of the button pressed determines the size of the burst, as well as how far the Undead travels before performing the initial thrust.

  • EX Version: Increases the size of the burst, which also knocks opponents into the air for a combo.

Moonlight Beam: The Chosen Undead swings the Moonlight Greatsword, creating a projectile resembling the arc of their swing. The strength of the button pressed determines the distance the projectile travels before dissipating, with heavy travelling the farthest.

  • This move can be chained up to two times with a repeated input; the button used in the second input does not have to be the same one as the original input, meaning that the player can combine two different versions of the move in the chain.
  • Both swings can be charged to increase the size of the projectile.
  • EX Version: The Undead quickly swings the Greatsword two times, firing two projectiles one after the other.
  • Brutality: The beam goes straight through the opponent on contact, cutting them in half from their shoulder down to their waist.
    • Secret Brutality: If the opponent is hit with a second beam, it will cut through the opposite half of the opponent’s chest, leaving them to fall apart in an X-shaped formation.

Soul Arrow: The Chosen Undead fires a simple magic projectile at their opponent.*

  • Light: Fires a basic soul arrow. Has the fastest casting time and travels the fastest, but does the least damage.
  • Medium (Great Soul Arrow): Fires a larger soul arrow. Has more or less the same casting time as the light Soul Arrow, but deals more damage at the expense of slower travel speed.
  • Heavy (Heavy Soul Arrow): Fires a slow, but powerful soul arrow. Has the slowest casting time of the three variations, but deals the most damage overall.
  • EX Version (Soul Spear): Fires a large, fast moving projectile that deals similar damage to the Heavy Soul Arrow.
  • If the Chosen Undead is summoned by the Lich King via Raise Dead with the Sorcerer class selected, they will perform this move.

Homing Soulmass: The Chosen Undead summons five magical orbs around themselves; after a few seconds, they will turn into small projectiles that home in on the target. The strength of the button pressed determines the amount of time before the orbs hone in on the opponent.

  • EX Version (Crystal Soulmass): The Undead summons five crystal projectiles, which deal increased damage on a successful hit.

White Dragon Breath: The Chosen Undead shoots a beam towards the floor, which causes clusters of crystals to form on the ground in a straight line. The strength of the button pressed determines what length of the stage the crystals cover upon the spell being cast; the light version goes up to about half-screen, while medium and heavy versions travel almost full screen.

  • EX Version: The crystals travel full-screen. Also greatly decreases the move’s cast time.
  • Brutality: Upon being hit by a crystal, the opponent is launched up into the air and lands on the spikes, impaling them in multiple places, leaving them to bleed out.

Throws

Forward: The Chosen Undead impales/slices his opponent in the chest with their weapon, causing them to crumple to their knees before they kick/knock them away.

  • Brutality: After stabbing the opponent, the Chosen Undead forces them onto their back and then brings their weapon down on their head, cleaving their head open.

Backward: The Chosen Undead maneuvers around the opponent before he stabs/slices them in the back and kicks/slices them away.

Super Art: Jolly Cooperation

The Chosen Undead knocks the opponent away with a swing of their chosen weapon (with the starting animation differing based on their chosen class), then takes out a White Sign Soapstone and holds it close to their chest. As the opponent gets up, three summon signs appear around them - one behind them and two on either side of them - bringing forth three White Phantoms (each one representing the three unselected classes) to assist the Undead.

First, the Knight slashes the opponent across the back as they are distracted, then the Cleric summons a Sunlight Spear and hurls it at them, giving the Pyromancer enough time to cast Firestorm, creating pillars of fire beneath the opponent that burn and damage them. While the opponent burns, the Sorcerer summons several Homing Crystal Soulmasses to bombard them before quickly swapping to their Moonlight Greatsword and using it to send a beam of moonlight flying at them, once again knocking them down. As they get up, all four cooperators take their weapons in both hands, and perform a single coordinated strike on the opponent, concluding the animation. As the fight resumes, the three summoned cooperators return to their own worlds.

  • Brutality: Once the Undead summons his three cooperators, they all close in on the opponent, who turns from side to side in a panicked attempt to see where the first attack will come from. The answer comes when the Knight comes up and stabs them in the back, after which he shoves them to the ground and drives his sword in deeper, to the point it penetrates the ground beneath them. While the opponent is pinned down, the Cleric hurls a Sunlight Spear into the sky; a thunderstrike is heard, and several Sunlight Spears rain down from the sky onto the opponent, penetrating multiple points of their body. As they writhe in pain, the Pyromancer casts Fire Tempest, erecting a pillar of fire beneath the opponent and burning away most of their skin. Even as the pillar of fire rages around them, the Sorcerer raises the Moonlight Greatsword into the air as it glows with green magic and slams it into the ground, sending out a powerful shockwave that engulfs the opponent and burns away what little is left of their flesh. As the screen clears, all that remains of the opponent is a pile of ash and bones surrounding the sword that had impaled them; the player’s version of the Undead then approaches the sword, holds out their hand and lights a fire around it as “Victory Achieved” appears on the screen.

Personal Actions

Intro: The Chosen Undead rises from out of a summon sign with their weapons drawn. If they appear second, their summon sign can be seen next to their partner, with a small box including the player's gamer tag appearing above it before they appear. If they appear first, the animation they perform while their partner enters the arena will change depending on their Class.

  • Knight: Puts up their shield and hits it with their straight sword a few times.
  • Pyromancer: Holds their Pyromancy Flame out as a small fire forms in their palm.
  • Cleric: Channels lightning into the Dragonslayer Spear and swings it in front of them, taking a pose similar to Ornstein’s second phase cutscene.
  • Sorcerer: Holds the Moonlight Greatsword in front of their face as it glows.

Taunt #1: A small banner appears on the top of the screen and the player can select one of three possible gestures for the Chosen Undead to perform: Beckon, Point Down or Well! What is it?!.

Taunt #2: Takes out an Orange Guidance Soapstone and quickly sets it down on the ground, leaving behind a pulsating orange runic message. If either the Chosen Undead or the opponent steps on top of the rune, they have the option to view it, revealing a mocking message.

Respect #1: A small banner appears on the top of the screen and the player can select one of three possible gestures for the Chosen Undead to perform: Bow, Hurrah! or Praise the Sun.

Respect #2: Takes out a Carving item and drops it on the ground, which will utter "Hello!", "Thank you!" or "Very good!" upon shattering.

Victory Pose: A Bonfire manifests behind the Chosen Undead, who promptly lights it and sits down next to it to rest.

Victory Pose (If at 20% health or lower): The Chosen Undead absorbs his opponent’s soul, which manifests as a glowing white orb in their palm. Once it is fully formed, they crush it.

Time Over: The Chosen Undead falls to their knees and hangs their head in defeat.

Game Over/Continue: A bonfire is seen next to the Undead’s defeated partner, whose flame slowly fades as the timer counts down to zero. If the player chooses to continue, the bonfire flares as the Chosen Undead is reformed in front of it, rising to their feet with their weapons drawn.

Note: When the Chosen Undead is defeated, their body will fade away in a white mist.

Character Theme (Original Composition by Josh Poore)

Team Info

Team Intro: Jason is seen lying motionless in front of a bonfire, with the Chosen Undead’s primary weapon impaled in his back. Suddenly, the bonfire flickers and the Chosen Undead reforms in front of it in a crouching position, after which he takes hold of his weapon’s handle and pulls it out of Jason’s back. With their weapon reclaimed, the Chosen Undead looks over their shoulder towards the opposing team, rises to their feet and turns to face them.

Ki ki ki, ma ma ma

Behind the Chosen Undead, Jason seemingly rises from the dead, his machete in hand. Despite this, the killer’s gaze appears fixed on the opposing team, just like the undead knight.

Tag Team Grabs

Jason Voorhees: After Jason performs the first part of his forward throw, the Chosen Undead will appear behind the opponent and use their weapon to stab the opponent in the back, then drives them face first into the ground.

The Chosen Undead: After the Undead stabs the opponent in the back, Jason appears in front of them and stabs them in the stomach with his machete/axe. After pulling out his weapon, Jason grabs the opponent by the head and violently pulls them off the Undead’s weapon before throwing them away. Once the animation is completed, Jason disappears into the mist.

Cross Art: Again They Rise

After either one of them activates the move, the opponent will be sent stumbling back and once they regain their senses, they look around to see themselves standing in almost total darkness, with a nearby Bonfire serving as the only source of light. Sounds of wildlife and cracking branches can be heard as the opponent nervously looks around, trying to locate their stalkers. Amidst their confusion, the Chosen Undead suddenly appears behind them and kicks them hard in the back, knocking them face first into the dirt. As they begin trying to run away, Jason picks them up and shoves their head into the fire, holding them down until the Undead reaches them, their weapon at the ready.

Throwing the burned, whimpering opponent back to the ground, Jason draws his machete and starts relentlessly slashing and stabbing away at them, with the Chosen Undead doing the same with their own weapon. With each stab, blood splatters on the screen, all while the opponent screams in terror and agony. To conclude the animation, the Chosen Undead reaches for the coiled sword within the Bonfire, pulls it out and raises it up in conjunction with Jason raising his machete. Just as the last embers from the Bonfire fade away, the two drive their blades down on their opponent, silencing them and smothering the arena in darkness. When the light returns, either Jason or the Chosen Undead are seen standing over the opponent, ready to continue the fight.

Generic Cross Arts

Jason Voorhees: When paired with a partner other than the Chosen Undead, Jason will reach out and grab his opponent before driving his machete into their stomach (if he is barehanded upon activation, he will first pick the machete up from the ground). With the machete still impaled in them, the opponent breaks free of Jason’s grip and desperately runs/limps away from him…only to inexplicably bump right into the killer’s chest after only a few steps. Pulling his machete out of his terrified opponent, he slashes at them with enough force to send them flying back the way they came.

The Chosen Undead: When paired with a partner other than Jason Voorhees, the Undead hits the opponent with a slash of their weapon, then dive rolls towards them and slashes at them again. This time, they attempt to retaliate with a punch, only for the Undead to evade it with yet another dive roll, allowing them to attack yet again. The process repeats itself one more time, with the Undead evading another of their opponent’s attacks and landing behind them; once they’re on their feet, they take out Smough’s Great Hammer from seemingly nowhere and performs a hefty swing with it, hitting the opponent and sending them flying towards their partner.

Arcade Mode

Introduction

Narrator: The land of Lordran had long been a nexus for different worlds. Heroes from past and future travel to and fro, sometimes doing battle against each other and sometimes cooperating to achieve mutual goals. But something had changed. The warriors and creatures that now appeared across the land clearly had no connection to the cycle of Fire and Dark. And their appearance had to do with the rifts that now dotted Lordran, whose origins were an inscrutable mystery.

Kingseeker Frampt: The fading of the First Flame has had dire consequences, but this is entirely unprecedented. Reality as we know it seems to be crumbling before our very eyes. Chosen Undead. The rest of your quest will have to wait. Venture forth beyond this door and seek out the source of this chaos.

Narrator: And so it was that a lone undead warrior passed through one of these rifts, beginning a new, perilous journey. At first, they found themselves alone and isolated, as they usually were, but as time passed, they were struck with an uncomfortable feeling - that someone or something was stalking them.

Ki ki ki, ma ma ma

Narrator: Suddenly, they are ambushed by a hulking, ragged figure. A vicious battle ensues, one that ultimately comes to a standstill. The assailant, vicious and unrelenting in their pursuit, proves far too resilient for the Undead to slay; at the same time, they persevere even in death, returning to battle again and again. It seemed that this battle would go on indefinitely, were it not for an unexpected development.

???: Jason…

Narrator: Upon hearing this voice, the Undead’s assailant stops in his tracks. It is as if he no longer sees his adversary; instead, his attention is focused on something else - the ghostly form of a woman.

Pamela: Stop fighting, Jason. This knight…they’re not like the others. Even you can’t kill them…no one can. Just like how no one can kill you. So, mommy wants you to do something else for her…

Narrator: The Undead’s attacker listens attentively as his “mother” gives him his instructions; find whoever brought him there and kill them, as well as anyone who dares get in his way. More surprisingly, she tells him to spare the Undead and take them with him to aid in his murderous journey. Soon after, the woman vanishes, and the adversaries share a silent glare before “Jason” simply walks away. Seeing this as him heeding his mother’s wishes, the Undead chooses to follow him, having their own reasons to seek out those responsible for the distortions. And until they find them, they would have to maintain this uneasy partnership.

Pamela: Go, Jason. Make mommy proud.

Battle #1

Pamela: That’s good, Jason. You always were a good boy. And you, stranger…I have to thank you for helping him.

Dialogue Option

(Who are you?)

(Say nothing)

If “Who are you?” is selected.

Pamela: Ah, so you can see me, too? Excellent. I am Pamela, Jason’s mother. I won’t say I’m sorry for how he acted towards you before, but I will say thank you for putting your grudge aside. No one’s ever been nice to my sweet little Jason, so I hope you’ll keep on being nice.

If “Say nothing” is selected.

Pamela: Ah, so you’re not much of a talker? You and my Jason have that in common, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. In any case, I am sure the two of you will accomplish great things together.

Battle #2

Pamela: Oh, is something on your mind, dear?

Dialogue Option

(Ask about Jason.)

(Ask about Pamela.)

If “Ask about Jason” is selected.

Pamela: Ah, yes. That is not a story I like to tell. You see, a long time ago, my precious boy drowned in a lake. It wasn’t by any fault of his own; there were people who were supposed to be watching him, supposed to help him…but they didn’t lift a finger to help him. Terrible…it was just terrible. But as you can see, that wasn’t the end of my precious Jason. No, he still lives, and he will never, ever die.

If “Ask about Pamela” is selected.

Pamela: Me? You’d like to know more about me? Hmm…what is there to tell, really? Well, many years ago, I lost my precious Jason. He drowned, you see, despite the fact that certain people were supposed to be watching him. My boy died because of their carelessness…and so, I avenged him. But as you can see, that wasn’t the end of my precious Jason. No, he still lives, and now he will avenge me.

Battle #3

Pamela: I really must apologize. I love my boy dearly, but I know he doesn’t make for…riveting company. Won’t you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Dialogue Option

(Tell your story.)

(Say nothing.)

If “Tell your story.” is selected.

Pamela: My oh my. So many hardships, and yet you’re still standing? That is quite admirable. But the one thing I don’t quite understand is “why?” Your people clearly despise you, fear you; surely you’re not fighting for them? Power, maybe? Well, in any case, I’m seeing a few more parallels between you and my son. Clearly, the two of you weren’t brought together by chance.

If “Say nothing.” is selected.

Pamela: No? What a pity. I can only assume, but I get the sense it’s because your stories are difficult for you to tell. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. My Jason has gone through hardships of his own, and yet here he stands, stronger than ever. Maybe you could learn a thing or two from him.

Battle #4

Pamela: Look at you, Jason. You’re doing so good. Mommy is so, so proud of you.

Dialogue Option

(Your son is a murderer.)

(Say nothing)

If “Your son is a murderer” is selected.

Pamela: ( chuckles ) Has anyone ever told you not to throw stones in glass houses, dear? I’ve been watching how you fight, you know? While you might look like an honorable knight, you are more than willing to kill anything and anyone that keeps you from your goal. And why? Because I told you to? Because someone back home told you to? Or maybe there’s one more big reason you and my Jason ended up together.

If “Say nothing” is selected.

Pamela: Hmm…is something making you uncomfortable, dearie? I’m sure you’ve seen far, far more disturbing things in your time. Or maybe I misjudged you? Maybe you don’t have the stomach to do what needs to be done after all. That would truly be a shame, so please, do prove me wrong.

Battle #5

Pamela: It shouldn’t be too much longer now. With every kill, the two of you get closer and closer to your ultimate goal.

Dialogue Option

(How do you know?)

(And when we get there?)

If “How do you know?” is selected.

Pamela: It’s obvious, isn’t it? Since the moment you got here, all you have done is fight. That’s no doubt the reason you were brought here to begin with - to fight and to kill. And naturally, in a system like that, you have to claw your way to the top. And the two of you together…you are unstoppable. So please, keep fighting. Make sure Jason gets to me safely.

If “And when we get there?” is selected.

Pamela: You expect me to know? I’m sure you have your own business to attend to back home, so if all goes well, you can go right back to it. As for Jason and I, well…maybe we will finally be able to see each-other again, as flesh and blood. So please, keep fighting. Make sure Jason gets to me safely.

Rival Cutscene

Jason and the Chosen Undead are seen walking through an eerie, dimly lit forest; as expected, no words are exchanged between the two. Suddenly, Pamela appears before them, smiling as she looks upon her son.

Pamela: Are you lost, dear? Not to worry. I know exactly where you need to go next. Go to the very edge of this forest - the way forward will be revealed to you there.

After delivering this message, Pamela’s specter fades away, leaving Jason and the Undead alone in the forest once more. The masked killer turns his head towards his “companion”, who likewise stares back at him through the slit of their helmet without even a hint of fear. After a long, tense silence, Jason turns his eyes back on the path ahead and lumbers off, leaving the Undead behind to watch him for a little while before they follow suit.

The scene then shifts to the two of them stepping out of the forest; before them now lies a barren landscape and not far in the distance, an ominous castle in the shape of a skull. Before the two of them can get too close, they hear Pamela’s voice once more.

Pamela: Not the castle, Jason. Look, in the distance…

The duo turn their sights beyond the castle and surely enough, they see another landmark far, far way - a tower of some sort, that rises above the fog.

Pamela: The tower, Jason. Go to the tower…

???: Well, at least there, you are not being deceived.

Upon hearing this new, unfamiliar voice, the Undead immediately take out their sword, readying themselves for battle; Jason is much more restrained in his reaction, turning his head in the direction the voice seemed to have come from. Moments later, a portal resembling a large yellow ring opens in the air above them and from it emerges a man with a flowing red cloak, who curiously strokes his chin as he looks down at the duo.

Doctor Strange: Tell me, brave sir knight, how is it you came to fight alongside such a…scoundrel?

Unsurprisingly, the sorcerer receives no verbal response, but the Undead does take a brief look at Jason, as if pondering the question posed to him. Turning back to the new arrival, the knight simply shrugs their shoulders.

Doctor Strange: Hmm, I see. Then I suppose you have suspicions, yes? About the true nature of your ‘guide’?

Though they still do not speak, a slight shift in the Undead’s demeanor betrays that they are intrigued. Seeing this, the sorcerer smirks to himself.

Doctor Strange: I am debating whether I should tell you. I know that your ‘friend’ here cannot be allowed to reach the tower, but you…well, you are something of an anomaly. Even I can’t say for certain what will transpire if you do. But someone clearly wants you to. Why else would they…

As the sorcerer speaks, the voice of Pamela speaks directly to Jason.

Pamela: Enough of this, Jason. Silence him! Kill him!

Tightly gripping his machete, Jason throws it at the sorcerer as he’s still speaking. However, by simply raising his hand, he stops the weapon just as it’s about to hit him, leaving it suspended in mid-air until he lowers his hand and lets it fall uselessly to the floor.

Doctor Strange: I suppose that solves that dilemma.

The sound of another portal opening behind them prompts Jason and the Undead to turn around; the portal in question is blue in colour and appears more technological in origin, notably different from the sorcerer’s. After a few tense moments, a figure steps through the portal; an enormous man wearing a set of green power armour, a bloodied shotgun in hand. He does not say a word, and glares at the duo through the visor of his helmet.

Doctor Strange: As you can see, negotiations have failed. Do you have any last-minute contributions?

The new arrival’s response is to simply pump his shotgun, something that draws a frustrated sigh from Strange.

Doctor Strange: Very well. Ensuring we get to the tower first is…logical enough.

With that, the sorcerer uses special hand signs to conjure magic energy around his hands. Seeing this, the Undead turns their attention to Strange, raising their shield in preparation for the battle ahead. Jason, on the other hand, sets his sights on the marine and starts to lumber towards him, not even bothering to retrieve his machete.

Pamela: Kill the Slayer, Jason! Rip him apart!

Before he can get too far, his target shoots out the meat hook attached to his shotgun by a long chain, which impales itself in Jason’s chest. Though this doesn’t seem to phase him, it does allow the Slayer to reel himself in to Jason’s location. Before he can get close enough to fire a shot, Jason grabs onto the chain and sharply yanks on it, which throws off the Slayer’s aim just enough that he avoids the full brunt of the shotgun blast, allowing him to clothesline the marine and knock him to the floor.

After pulling the meat hook out of his chest, Jason drives it into The Slayer’s chest and wraps the chain connected to it around his neck, pulling him up in order to choke him with it. His would-be victim is unphased, however and uses the Doom Blade in order to stab Jason in the stomach; likewise, this hardly seems to phase the masked killer, who only tightens the chains around the Slayer’s neck.

The standstill only ends when the Slayer viciously headbutts Jason, loosening his grip on the chains; the Marine also pulls the Doom Blade out of his stomach and pulls the Meathook out of his chest before he takes out his chainsaw, revving it up as him and Jason stare each other down.

Doctor Strange: Bolts of Balthaak!

Meanwhile, Strange bombards the Undead with several spells, all of which they manage to avoid with precise dodge rolls. Seeing that this approach is proving unsuccessful, the sorcerer attempts to use a different spell.

Doctor Strange: Crimson Bands of Cy…

In a split second, the Undead takes out the Sunlight Talisman and casts Vow of Silence, taking away Strange’s voice just before he could finish the spell. It only takes him a moment to recognize what has happened, and with an amused smile, simply performs a magical hand gesture to cast his next spell, which sends a stream of flames towards the Undead, who once again has no choice but to avoid it.

As all this happens, they see Jason still struggling with the Slayer, the latter of whom currently has his back turned to him. Next, they see Jason’s machete lying on the ground, and while continuing to avoid Strange’s spells, they run over and retrieve it before running in their direction, managing to hit the Slayer directly in the back just as his chainsaw is aimed directly at Jason’s shoulder.

The Slayer’s attention turns to the Undead, attempting to swing his chainsaw at them, only for them to block it using their shield. As the knight struggles to hold back the Slayer, Jason comes up behind him and grabs him around the neck, managing to pull him away from his “companion” while attempting to either break his neck or choke them out. Seeing an opportunity, the Undead readies the machete and swings at the Slayer…only for a portal to open under their target's feet, which the Marine falls into. A similar portal opens close to Strange, which the Slayer falls out of, landing firmly on his feet before casting a rather displeased look in the sorcerer’s direction. This lasts only a few seconds before they both turn their attention back to Jason and the Undead, who remain in the same spot.

Without saying a word, or even really looking in Jason’s direction, the Undead drives their “companion’s” machete into the ground in order to take out their weapon. The killer takes notice of this and looks at the Undead, tilting his head before finally reclaiming his machete.

As the duo stands ready to fight, the shot changes to show Strange and the Slayer; another small portal opens over the latter and his Super Shotgun falls out, landing directly in his hands. Giving the firearm another quick pump, the Slayer stands ready to resume the fight.

Doctor Strange: What a lively bunch. ( conjures magic in his palms ) Now, where were we?

The shot lingers over the opposing teams for a few seconds before finally cutting to the match.

Battle #6

Pamela: It is done. Now that they’ve been taken care of, you should have a clear path to the tower.

Dialogue Option

(What was the sorcerer talking about?)

(What awaits us there?)

If “What was the sorcerer talking about?” is selected.

Pamela: Nothing. It’s all meaningless. He was trying to confuse you, to turn you and Jason against each other. He must’ve realized that you two would be a problem for him and his trigger-happy friend, and as you can see, he was right.

If “What awaits us there?” is selected.

Pamela: I can’t say for sure, but I can say that you’re not done fighting. Many, many others were brought here and the only ones who are still left must be some of the most powerful of them all…and some of the most ruthless. Be prepared.

Battle #7

Pamela: You’ve done it, Jason! You’ve made it all the way to the end, just as I knew you would.

Dialogue Options

(What is this place?)

(Someone else is here.)

If “What is this place?” is selected.

Pamela: Oh, don’t you worry, dear. You’ve come to the right place. Now, there’s just one more thing left for you to do.

If “Someone else is here.” is selected.

Pamela: Kill them, Jason! Kill them! Let us be together again!

Battle #8

Pamela: Jason…mommy’s waiting for you. Come to me... ( audio glitch)

Dialogue Option

(What was that?)

(Say nothing.)

If “What was that?” is selected.

Pamela: Jason…I’m over here, Jason…

If  “Say nothing.” is selected.

Pamela: Jason…I’m over here, Jason…

Ending Cutscene

Jason is seen walking towards the Crucible’s main lab, guided by his mother’s voice. Alarms blare and red lights flash all around him, but the killer is undisturbed, continuing forward with single-minded purpose.

Pamela: This way, Jason. You’re getting close.

Far behind him, the Undead watches as their companion walks towards the lab, but does not attempt to stop him. They then look down at something they are holding in their hands - a small remote, which they appear rather perplexed by. Regardless, they finally follow after Jason.

Around the same time, Jason finally enters the lab, finding only a handful of shelves and a single monitor at the far side of the room, which shows nothing but static. But his attention is focused on the one waiting for him there - his mother, Pamela Voorhees, who is standing just below the monitor with a warm smile on his face.

Pamela: There you are, my special boy. I missed you so much.

Jason walks towards his mother, who holds her arms out to welcome him. Very soon, mother and son stand before one another, with the former putting her hands on either side of his face in a tender embrace.

Pamela: You did it, Jason. I always knew you could do it. I knew that nothing could stop you.

Letting go of his bloodied machete and letting it fall to the floor, Jason slowly reaches out to embrace his mother.

Pamela: And now, we’re finally together again. Nothing will ever come between us agai…

Mysteriously, Pamela starts phasing in and out of existence like a hologram, before she disappears entirely. At the same time, the monitor completely shuts off, leaving a deathly silence to settle over the lab. A confused Jason stares at where his “mother” stood just a moment ago, grasping at nothing but empty air.

Behind him, the Undead is seen pointing the remote at the monitor, clearly having turned it off. In time, Jason turns his head and sees this for himself, staring intently at the knight as he pieces together what happened. No doubt sensing where the situation is headed, the Undead lowers the remote and silently shakes their head to warn him off…but it’s no use.

Turning around, Jason picks his machete up off the floor and lumbers towards the Undead, who has mere seconds to draw their sword before their comrade is upon them.

Ki ki ki, ma ma ma

Without hesitation, Jason swings his machete down on the Undead, who deflects the attack with their sword. The killer performs several more aggressive slashes as they advance on the knight, who manages to counter each and every one before retaliating with a swing of their own, which Jason similarly manages to intercept. The two are caught in a brief struggle where they push their weight against each other, with Jason ultimately coming out on top when he uses his free hand to grab the Undead by the throat and shove them against one of the shelves, sending its many contents spilling down onto the floor.

Just before Jason can stab them in the gut, the Undead quickly bashes him in the face with their shield, loosening his grip just enough to allow them to free themselves and slash at his chest, which barely seems to phase him. As the killer resumes his attack and attempts to swing at them, the knight avoids him by performing a dodge roll in the direction of the monitor. The knight barely has time to get back on his feet before Jason is on them again, forcing them to perform another roll to avoid their follow up slash…and leaving Jason to pierce the monitor.

Before he can even pull his machete from the machine and continue his pursuit of the Undead, the intensity of the alarms increases tenfold and the passage to the lab is sealed. The Undead sees this in the midst of their battle, then looks back towards the monitor to see that an orb of temporal energy had formed in front of it, and was growing larger and larger. When they see an opening, the Undead takes out a Homeward Bone in a desperate attempt to warp themselves out, only for Jason to swipe it from them and crush it in his hand. There was no way out.

And so, the Undead readies their sword once more and re-engages Jason. The camera shifts to show the orb steadily growing, with segments of the battle appearing as shadows on the wall every time it crackles and brims with energy. Finally, it collapses in on itself and the shot changes to show the Crucible seconds before it explodes in a blazing inferno, with both Jason and the Undead still inside.

Some time later, the camera overlooks an enormous crater where the Crucible once stood, before panning down to a Bonfire located on the crater’s edge. Its dim flame flares before the Chosen Undead reforms next to it, rising to their feet and turning to face the ruin before them.

The shot then shifts to the very center of the crater, where a small fragment of Jason’s hockey mask lies among the rubble and ruined earth, with its owner nowhere to be seen. The sound of heavy footsteps are heard before the Undead’s hand reaches down and picks up what’s left of the mask, briefly inspecting it before raising their head and continuing walking. The camera slowly zooms out to show the vast, desolate land that the Undead now finds themselves in, which they now must brave alone.

Aftermath #1 (Jason Voorhees)

Even Jason could not have survived the Crucible’s destruction. His entire body was obliterated, and with no hope of revival, his soul fell directly to Hell. But even this was not the end for him. The manner of his death affected him in an unexpected way - by concentrating his anger and malice, Jason found that he could return to the land of the living as a wrathful phantom, not just in the world where he met his end, but in any world. And so it was that lands far and wide were terrorized by a masked killer, who slaughtered whoever was unfortunate enough to cross his path. His first target - a lost, undead knight.

Aftermath #2 (The Chosen Undead)

The Crucible’s destruction left the Chosen Undead stranded in an unfamiliar land, with no clear way to return to Lordran. And yet, they persevered. With every passing moment, the First Flame grew dimmer and dimmer, bringing the Age of Dark ever closer to fruition. Would that be as catastrophic as they imagined? Who was to say? The Undead had plenty of time to think along their journey, and during that time, they made a pledge. Regardless of what would happen once they returned to their own world, they would return, no matter what. Come what may, they would not go Hollow.

Notes:

I bet you can see now why I was so excited for this one, right? This was always meant to be a more experimental entry, seeing as up until this point its been focused on putting together two characters that wouldn't otherwise meet and having them interact. Well, what happens when neither of them can talk? Well, I hope the workaround I came up with was interesting.

Special thanks go out once again to Josh Poore for composing the character themes for these two! I know that they have been reserved for "special" chapters up until now, but I've wanted to do individual character themes for a while and figured that this one would be a good place to finally include them, seeing as this was initially supposed to be my "birthday chapter" (missed it by like a month, but still). You can expect to see other characters get their own themes in the future, but obviously not all of them. I have a shortlist of said characters already, but we'll see how many of them pan out.

As part of my belated birthday message, I wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to read this and my other entries to date! This has been a passion project long in the making and I never expected it to get this much attention. I can promise that there is much, much more to come in the future.
