Chapter Text
Slanted na’vi
Third person pov
As they are running Quaritch starts shouting into his com. Start up that damn scorpion we got a hostile on our ass! They rush to a clearing where the helicopter waits for them already started and partially off the ground. They hurriedly jump into the passenger bay of the chopper but just as they are about to close the door an arrow flies straight into the chopper lodging itself into the wall. They manage to close the door and the chopper takes off but if they thought to look back they would see a grieving father fall to the ground a cry of pain and sorrow leaves him as he cries for his lost child.
As the men fall back on the floor of the chopper they start to laugh, the adrenaline of what has happened finally starting to wear off. Lyle looks down at the baby in his arms who is still crying. Hey tiny it's ok the big bad blue monkey is gone now. He says yet the baby continues to cry. How the hell did you guys get hold of a kid, and how the hell is she breathing without a mask? A slightly accented voice calls to them. Lyle looks over as his friend Trudy comes over after letting her copilot take over for the flight so she could check on them. Don't know. We just found her in the woods on patrol. He responds.
Daddy, I want my daddy! Riely shouts at the men holding her hostage, slapping Lyle’s chest. You know if she is old enough to walk and run like she was through the forest shouldn’t she be old enough to talk instead of the gibberish she is spitting here? Quaritch asks. That, that's not gibberish, that's na’vi. Trudy says in surprise. And how in the hell do you know that? Quaritch demands.
Just because I'm a soldier doesn’t mean I can't learn a new language. Trudy snaps. And anyways if i am correct one of the words that she just said was sempul which means dad or father. She's calling for her dad in na’vi. Trudy explains. Shit. lyle and quaritch say at the same time. Yeah shit, so that means that the big blue that was chasing you guys was her dad and he was chasing you because you had his kid! Trudy angrily exclaims. Well there is no turning back now we’ll have to take care of this back at base. Trudy says agitation radiating off of her as she leaves back back to the cockpit. You know we will have to take this kid to Augustine. Lyle says, looking at Quaritch. Quaritch swears under his breath.
As they arrive at the base, Trudy lands the chopper and hurries to shut everything down. As Lyle and Quaritch get out they hurry to the labs where the “science pukes” were working, but most importantly it was where Augustine was working. As they enter the labs they hear a voice yell out in anger. God Dammit, Quaritch! Where the hell is that jackass?
Not it. Lyle says as he hurriedly runs to hide from a furious Grace Augustine. Corporal, Corporal get, and he’s gone and he still has the damn kid. Quaritch sighs.
Quaritch! Augustine shouts. And as Miles Quaritch turns around he is greeted with a right hook to the face. People hurry to hold Grace back as she goes to hit the colonel again. Do you have any idea of what you have done ranger rick? Grace asks as she shakes out of the hold of her coworkers. Well I might, how bout you enlighten me? Miles says as he rubs his bruising jaw. Well from what i just heard from the group of native i've been trying to befriend and work with these past few months is that you idiot jar heads just kidnapped the Chiefs baby! Grace exclaims, the emotions she experienced after watching a war party run by her and the group of kids she was teaching are still steaming in her soul.
Wasn't like we knew that the kid was theirs for christ sake the baby looks human. Miles tells her. What do you mean they look human? Grace questions. For all she knew they just kidnaped a na’vi baby right from her parents arms. How bout we just show you, Wainfleet get in here ASAP! Quaritch calls out. As lyle walks into the room you can see that he and little Riely are making funny faces at each other. Holy shit, she is human, but how? Grace gasps. Don't know, but if there is one thing that we do know is that this kid's cuteness could cure cancer. Lyle jokes.
Shut up corporal. Quaritch demands. Lyle stiffles his laughter. Sorry sir. He says as he then hands off the baby to grace. Well you are cute that’s for sure. Grace says as she adjusts the baby now in her arms. As grace hold Riely in her arms the little one reaches up to play with graces hair. Pretty, it red like me. Riely says as she holds a few strands of Graces hair in her hands. Yes it is red. Grace says. Now little one can you tell me your name. She asks the child. Riely is the name my momma says Eywa gave me. Riely responds. Can you take me to my momma? I want my momma. She starts to whimper.
Yes i can take you to your momma. In fact…. They’re coming. Shit they’re coming, a war party is on their way here right now. Grace panics switching from Na’vi to english. She rushes to the link pods as she goes to get inside one she forgets that Riely is in her arms for a second before she gets back up and practically shoves her into Quaritch’s arms. Meet me outside. I'll be in my avatar. Bring the girl we need to defuse this situation before anyone gets killed. Grace explains panic stricken. Quaritch for once listens to the women as he hurries outside grabbing a mask as both he and lyle run out the doors seeing grace run out of the avatar compound in her na’vi body.
As they get together they can hear the cries of the na’vi war party getting closer and closer to hell's gate. As the na’vi get closer you can see who is leading it. Eytukan himself is leading the war party with Mo’at riding right behind him on the Pa’li. As they get closer Grace steps up to calmly negotiate with them so that a fight does not break out. Eytukan, Mo’at I see you, but please do not attack us there has been a misunderstanding. Grace pleaded with them. Eytukan angrily gets off his Pa’li and stomps over to grace. When he reaches her he pulls out his knife and holds it in front of her threateningly.
Mistake i do not see how you demons taking my child to be a mistake. He hisses in her face taking pride in the fear he can smell leaking off of her and the other demons. Good they should be afraid, he thought. They don’t know the language of the people and they did not know she was your daughter for she looks like one of us. What they saw when you jumped them was an angry man threatening the life of not only them but a harmless baby girl. Grace explains as calmly and seriously as she can without angering the chief of the Omaticaya further.
In the background Riely is still being held by Lyle as he stands side by side with Quaritch, both extremely tense as they recognise the native man who had chased them through the forest. Do you really think that the doc can calm them down? Lyle asks Quaritch. Quaritch sits there in thought, he doesn’t really know if Grace Augustine can calm them down. In fact he knew that if he were in the chief's shoes at the moment and some strange alien had kidnaped his kid he wouldn’t be holding back and that everyone involved would be dead. Yet things tend to go now how everyone wants them to go. For while Grace was trying to calm down the natives and Lyle unconsciously reached for his gun with his fingertips something amazing happened.
As the tension rises dozens of atokirina float down from the trees and fly right to Riely who had been previously using lyles bald head as a bongo drum. As Riely looks up one of these sacred seeds land on her nose causing her to sneeze. A few more come around and float between the Na’vi warriors and the human soldiers stopping any and all hostility between the two species for the moment. Mo’at gets down from the Pa’lis back and walks towards the human male holding her daughter. Did you truly want to protect my child? Mo’at asks in her thickly accented voice. We both did. Lyle responds Nodding towards his commanding officer. Quartich stiffened up so much at that moment that it might have been considered inhuman yet he still manages to nod along to his corporal's words. Mo’at kneels down and places her hands on both Lyle and Quaritches shoulders
Thank you. She says. But now that you know she our daughter, if you ever take again, I gut you like nantang. She finishes, and even though her threat was in broken English everyone around knew it wasn’t just a threat but a promise. She than holds out her arms and Lyle immediately puts Riely in her arms. Mo’at stands and walks back to the Pa’li her and her mate road here. As her mate helps her on he gives one last glare to the humans then soon mounts the pa’li himself. With a sharp call the Omaticayian warriors leave. As they leave Riely peaks over her moms shoulder and waves a little hand at those who took care of her till her parents could get her. Yet that was not the last time any of them would meet.
