Chapter Text

Over the course of the next nine months, Spence missed every single sign of what was coming for him. It went practically by trimester, and the BAU noticed the symptoms- but as smart as the profilers were, no one put two and two together. Because Spencer is a Beta. Or so they thought.

Trimester 1…

Spencer woke up every morning puking at exactly 5 AM. Had been for a few weeks. He didn’t tell anyone, not wanting to raise concern as he would be fine an hour later when he left for work. Call it his lifelong time of hiding being an Omega, but he didn’t want any of them coddling him or worrying about him. When Hotch, Morgan, AND Emily were all Alphas- He didn’t need them piling on him and telling him what to do. He was a grown man, living his life as a beta. He didn’t want to be under an Alpha's control.

The BAU didn’t even know about the morning sickness till they were on the plane to Pennsylvania. It was an overnight flight, only taking a few hours, but they had left in the middle of the night to be there by morning. Spencer laid sideways on one of the couches, and as per usual when it hit 5:02 AM, Spencer's eyes shot open. He panicked internally, dreading this moment as he got up and nearly passed out from lightheadedness, but bolted to the bathroom. He was doubled over the toilet, getting sick on nothing but the half slice of pizza from the night before, when Morgan knocked on the door.

“Hey, kid, you okay?” The Alpha asked, sounding deeply concerned for his younger colleague and best friend. Spencer didn’t have the breath to respond, a mere gasp of oxygen leading him to puking again. The Boy Genius was afraid he was going to aspirate at some point, in all honesty, but it hadn’t happened yet so he mentally knocked on wood that it wouldn’t happen for as long as this stomach bug decided to stay with him.

“Kid? C’mon, answer me. Or at least let me in, don’t want you getting puke in those pretty locks of yours.” Morgan flirted in a friendly way; his voice strewn with a smile that laid on his face despite the worry he had for Spencer.

Spencer finally managed to reach the door handle and shove the bathroom door open, allowing the muscley man in the tiny bathroom. Morgan entered and immediately kneeled and pulled Spencer’s long hair out of his face for him, holding it at the nape of his neck with one hand as he rubbed Spencer’s back with the other.

“Did the turbulence get to you? Normally you’re okay with these flights, kid.” He raised an eyebrow.

“I think...” He started, before dry heaving into the toilet and groaning as the uncontrollable gags let up. “I think it's just some stomach bug. S’been goin’ on every morning for a few weeks now. Can't possibly be contagious and it goes away by 7 AM.” He informed, turning to lean against the bathroom wall and rest his forearms on his bent knees.

“Weeks? Man, you should see a doctor after a week!” Morgan scolded like the true caring Alpha he was. “I’ll go get you a water.” He sighed, patting Spencer’s shoulder before getting up and steadily walking to the mini fridge.

“He, okay?” Emily mumbled; one eye opening to look at Morgan.

“Not sure. He was vomiting, said he’d been vomiting every morning the past few weeks.” Morgan sighed.

“No wonder the kids’ so pale, he’s dehydrated as hell.” Emily sighed, pointing out the obvious paleness and under-eye bags. “You’d think he’s pregnant, getting sick every morning.” She chuckled, though it was a lighthearted joke, and she showed a clear worry for the younger colleague and friend.

“Is that even possible? He’s a male Beta.” Derek shrugged her comment off with his statement, despite the actuality of the situation that no one, not even Spencer, knew.

Spencer walked out, looking groggy and exhausted as if he hadn’t slept in days. Without a word from either of the two men, the water bottle was traded between hands from Morgan’s to Spencer’s.

“Thank you.” Spencer croaked, voice raspy and deep, raw from bile. He took a few large swigs before Morgan tapped his arm in light scolding, as if to say “Sip, don’t chug.”

“I'm trying to get the awful flavor out of my mouth. Don’t tell me what to do.” Spencer grumbled, sitting down with a huff, and taking another sip of the cool, seemingly flavorless liquid. “Did you know, water DOES have a flavor? We as a society are just so accustomed to believing that water is flavorless.” He spewed a random fact, and Aaron rolled his eyes with a smile.

“Good to see you’re still as statistical as always, even if you’re sick. Should I be worried about this affecting your work in the field?” He raised a brow.

“No sir. I already feel fine.” Spencer pulled a flat-line smile, his go-to, that always seemed to make Derek's heart flutter. And that, Morgans's heart did. But Morgan never said a word about his feelings for Spencer- whether he didn’t realize them, or he was just trying to keep a professional and friendly relationship with the hidden omega, they’ll never know.

The team went about their day as per usual, profiling and catching killers. In this case, though, they just happened to be too late- raiding the house right after shots were fired. The UBSUB had killed not only the victim but himself.

Spencer sighed, taking a shallow deep breath to try and head the sickness bubbling in his throat. Normally he wouldn’t even bat an eye at this, so he had to keep it that way. The lightheadedness and ear ringing didn’t help, but he somehow managed to let all of these go under the radar and not be noticed by anyone. He had been most worried about Hotch and Morgan- Possibly Emily. They were the three Alphas of the group, though Hotch and Emily had beta tendencies, unlike Morgan. Morgan was protective, in tune with any omega’s needs- he wasn’t mated, sometimes during Spencer's medically induced heats, he found himself wishing Morgan was there. Wishing that Morgan was the one to mark him, knot him, and wishing Morgan was the one to comfort him.

Reality hit the suppressed omega with Morgan's hand on his shoulder. “You good, kid?” the Alpha spoke, and Spencer realized he had been spaced out in the corner for a bit too long.

“Y-yeah, I'm fine. Thanks, Der’.” He mumbled, shrugging the hand off with a small smile before walking out of the house they had raided. He knew better than to let his mind wander, especially to thoughts of an Alpha mating him. What the hell was wrong with him?
