Chapter Text

It was a nice day, a great day even, it was one of those days where the clouds were grey and heavy with rain, the cool breeze and the complete lack of sun meant there was a sharp chill in the air, and you didn’t have to do anything except whatever you wanted to do. And yet, Touya couldn’t enjoy the weather that normally meant he’d go out for a walk around the city without a destination in mind now, no, now he had an annoying roommate who didn’t do well at all in cold weather. He grumbled as he tried to push Keigo’s wings out of his face as the bastard just unhelpfully cuddled closer. Eventually, Touya sighed, leaned back against the couch, and accepted his fate as a human radiator.

And then his phone started ringing and Touya groaned as he felt a headache start to form, “Hey! Birdie!” He shoved at Keigo, unsuccessfully trying to push him off, “oi! Keigo! Move you dumb bitch!” He tried to reach for his phone, but the table was too far away.

Keigo just clung tighter, mumbling “oh screw you Ashes, I’m cold.”

“Would you just let me answer that call! I know you can hear it!” Touya tried once again to reach for the phone, which had stopped ringing and started again, clearly this person was being persistent, although from this angle he couldn’t quite make out the caller ID.

Keigo muttered something that was probably a complaint as he shifted to the side, letting Touya finally grab his phone, he checked the name at the top of the screen which read ‘pest (affectionate)’ and grumbled. He answered the call “what do you want you fucking gremlin?” He tried to sound annoyed, but there was no hope of that when he was grinning like the cheshire cat, knowing that whatever was about to happen was either going to be very fun or give him a heart attack, or more likely both.

“Hey Tou! Are you busy?” Izuku’s voice was nonchalant, but Touya could hear the buzzing excitement underneath that tone, he wouldn’t be surprised if they were bouncing on their heels while they spoke.

Touya glanced at the clingy bird sprawled on top of him, “uh, technically no, but I might have some trouble doing anything for a while.”

Izuku giggled, “let me guess, Kei is giving you a hard time about the weather?”

Keigo craned his neck to speak into the phone “hey Izuku!”

“Hi! Can you let Touya go for a while?” They asked. Touya eventually gave up and put the call on speaker so that Keigo would stop trying to push his head out of the way.

“What do you need him for?” Keigo replied, a coy smile on his face.

“Well, I was going to show Himi some spots around the city, but our parents are all busy, and we need an adult to go with us.” Touya took a moment to remember the newest addition to the family, Keigo would probably have dragged him to meet her if they weren’t busy with rescues due the recent flooding in Esuha.

And Keigo seemed excited at the chance as one of his wings smacked Touya in the face, “hey! Watch where you flap those things Birdie!”

“Oops,” Keigo looked completely unrepentant, sticking his tongue out at Touya before speaking again with Izuku, “where do you want us to meet you?”

“I’ll head to the rooftop of this building,” Izuku said, with some shuffling noises in the background that suggested they were already making their way up, “then we’ll head to Himiko’s place and get her.”

Keigo nodded and stood up, grabbing his jacket and rushing outside while Touya told Izuku they were on their way, hanging up before jumping through the window and landing in Keigo’s arms.

They got quite a few sidelong glances as they walked to the meeting spot, understandable since, compared to the normal people wearing cardigans and sweaters, they made quite the odd pair, with Keigo wearing a jacket clearly meant for winter and not a chilly spring day, and Touya casually strolling through the cold in a t-shirt and ripped jeans. When they got to the apartment Keigo carried Touya as he flew up to the rooftop level, grinning when he saw Izuku waving at them and running over.

“There you are!” They exclaimed, “come on! Let’s go get Himiko!” They began dashing off as if they meant to go across the rooftops, but Touya quickly grabbed them by the jumper, and despite their attempts to wriggle out, Touya had gotten used to their tricks, so he didn’t let them slip.

He laughed at their pouting face as he handed them over to Keigo to fly down to the street, “sorry ‘Zuku, we’re doing things the normal way today.”

As the three of them made their way down the street, Touya held both Izuku and Keigo’s hands, with both of them here he wasn’t certain what kind of shiny curiosity would drag their attention and get them lost. And when they got to the apartment, Izuku quickly scampered up to one of the windowsills, Touya couldn’t tell exactly what they signed, but soon enough another child’s head poked out from the window Izuku then led them down to where Keigo and Touya were waiting. Touya finally got a proper look at his new cousin, she seemed like a bubbly kid, given the way she literally skipped over to them, her hair was done up in buns in a way that made him certain she’d done those herself, and she had a wide smile on her face as she waved at them.

“Hi! I’m Himiko!” She said, “you must be Zuzu’s brother and his friend!” Touya glanced over at Izuku, who just groaned and glared at him, they were the spitting image of their dad when they did that now, too bad for them that Touya was already used to the real thing.

“Oh shut up!” Izuku scowled at Touya’s barely held back laughter, he held up his hands placatingly, but filed that nickname away for teasing purposes later, after all, what kind of big brother would he be if he didn’t annoy his siblings a little bit?

Keigo waved a wing at Himiko “hello! I’m Keigo, and the one with the bad attitude is Touya,” he yelped when he got shoved for that last comment, although Touya couldn’t keep the scowl on his face for long when he heard his friend’s churring laugh.

Himiko grinned at the display, giggling as well. Suddenly, Keigo gasped, his eyes lighting up in a way that made it obvious he’d seem something that interested him, “you have fangs,” he whispered, crouching down to her level.

Himiko looked a bit unsettled by the remark, “uh, yeah?” She said, now seeming rather nervous,

Keigo quickly realised his error, “no no no, I meant like, fangs are cool, and it’s always nice to meet someone else with fangs, other than your parents that is.”

“Someone else” Himiko asked, grin growing wider when she put two and two together.

“Mhm!” Keigo said showing off his own fangs with some amount of pride, from what he could see, Touya thought that Keigo’s fangs might be slightly shorter, but Himiko was still happy judging by the squeal she let out, and Touya could practically see the sparkles in her eyes. Oh fucking hell, she was acting her age, and Touya had exactly zero experience with normal, not concerningly mature, teenagers, he was going to need some help dealing with all this. He quickly sent a text to Fuyumi, asking if she could help babysit these gremlins, sure she was a teaching assistant to elementary students, but that was more experience than he had, and he knew she was free because it was the weekend.

Fuyumi responded firstly that she was annoyed at him for not telling her sooner that he was hanging out with the new kid, and secondly that she’d help on the condition that she could bring Natsuo with her to meet Himiko, apparently Shoto had homework to do and had to stay at home. Touya looked over to where Himiko and Keigo appeared to be getting along like a house on fire, “hey kid, you wanna meet my sister and brother?”

Himiko nodded rapidly, “sure!”

Touya sent Fuyumi the confirmation, and also a location to meet them at, “alright, let’s head to the café, the one with the really good sandwiches,” he said as he began walking, hearing three sets of footsteps behind him. He occasionally looked back to check on Himiko, who smiled at him every time she saw him glance at her. She was adorable, and she seemed way too naïve to be hanging around people like them, then Touya shook his head, reminding himself that whatever her personality was, he couldn’t tell what she could or couldn’t do. After all, people always said Pops was naïve given his personality, and that was an outright lie, a lie that he was all too happy to fuel, but a lie nonetheless.

Himiko skipped up to him, “um, are you a hero?” She asked.

Touya nodded, “yeah, and so is Birdie over there, why?”

She shrugged, “just asking, I mean, everyone in this family seems to be a hero, so I figured I’d check.”

Touya hummed, “well, not everyone, Fuyumi’s training to be a teacher, and Natsuo just started his medical degree.”

“Are those the people we’re meeting?” Himiko asked, to which Touya nodded, not saying much else since he knew his siblings would want to introduce themselves properly
------------------------------------
Himiko didn’t know exactly where they were going, but soon enough they started slowing, she looked around and spotted a café, presumably the one that they were going to meet Touya’s siblings at. Touya whistled when he spotted two people sitting at one of the outside tables, waving at them when they looked up, Himiko blinked, those two looked almost nothing like Touya, the only reason she could spot any resemblance at all was because she was searching for it.

The lady walked up to the group, hugging Touya before turning to Himiko, “hello, I’m Fuyumi, and you must be Himiko.”

Himiko nodded, bowing politely, “yep, that’s me! It’s nice to meet you miss!”

“Aw, you’re such a polite young lady, now where did you learn that, because I know it wasn’t from any of us,” Fuyumi laughed at her own joke, and Himiko giggled as well, from what she understood that was an entirely reasonable assumption, although, Himiko didn’t much like thinking about the people who did teach her those manners.

The boy, she assumed that was Natsuo, muttered something as he stood up, grabbing a cane from where it leaned against the chair, “we get it Yumi, we’re all so uncivilised, you don’t have to tell the new kid that!” His tone sounded almost like whining. Himiko’s eyes sharpened when she noticed that he had a noticeable limp, favouring his right leg. Well, she supposed that explained the cane. Although she did want to ask if something had happened, the same way she was curious about the gnarled patches of faded red scars that covered parts of Touya’s face and arms, she kept quiet in case she accidentally dragged up sore topics.

Natsuo must have noticed her staring because he smiled, “you wanna know how my leg got fucked up, right?”

Himiko nodded sheepishly, and he took that as the sign to keep talking, “I actually got shot in the knee during a fight these three were in,” he pointed at the two heroes and Izuku, “turns out the bullet managed to knock a chunk off my patella, and properly lodged itself in my tibia, which made it super annoying to get out, and to clean up the shards of bone.”

Fuyumi sighed, “Natsu,” she began, with the tone of someone who’s had to make this point many, many times, “not everyone has memorised a human’s anatomy, could you say it simpler for her?”

Himiko shook her head, “no! I understood what he said!” She loved biology, it was one of her best subjects, and she was always fascinated by how the human body worked. She looked at Natsuo, “so, did it cut any tendons? And did you have to get one of those metal rod things put into your bones?”

Natsuo seemed surprised at the onslaught of questions, but then he quickly matched her enthusiasm, “oh, no, I’m lucky it didn’t go through the quadriceps tendon, that would have been a disaster, and thanks to RG’s healing quirk, I didn’t need a intramedullary rod to keep everything in place, we couldn’t fix my patella though, the piece that got taken out was completely shattered, just a bunch of bone fragments.”

“So, hypothetically, if I cut that tendon, you wouldn’t be able to walk at all, or would you have been able to fix it, those are near blood vessels right, would you bleed out?” Himiko vaguely hear Touya mutter something to Fuyumi about med students and serial killers, but she was curious, Natsuo clearly knew a lot about the human body and she wasn’t going to let this chance go by.

“Well, yes, hypothetically someone who had their quadriceps tendon severed wouldn’t be able to move their lower leg much, so it would be very hard for them to walk or run, and as far as I know, it’s a very difficult thing to fix if it’s done a certain way, as for the blood vessel thing, it really depends on if you manage to hit the popliteal artery or not, but yes, given enough time someone could bleed out from a stab to the knee.”

Okay!” Fuyumi suddenly interrupted with an exclamation that was a bit too loud, “let’s maybe not teach the kid how to do crimes,” she glanced at Natsuo pointedly.

Natsuo rolled his eyes, “fine, fine,” he then smiled a bit, looking at her, “hey Himiko?” He gestured at Izuku, “they can give you my number, if you wanted to know more medical stuff.”

Fuyumi sighed while Izuku nodded rapidly already bringing out their phone, Touya coughed and reminded them that the whole point of this was to show Himiko some cool places around the city, and Keigo nodded, using his wings to herd the lot of them away from the café.

Himiko ended up learning a lot of things about her new city, like the fact that some of the alleyways led into smaller alleyways, perfect for hiding according to Touya, and Natsuo and Fuyumi pointed out all the best places to get food, and Keigo showed her how to spot cameras and their blind spots, and Izuku showed her how to tell if a ledge of any kind could support her weight or not. Okay, maybe only one of those things was normal for a tour of a city, but she was having fun so did it really matter if what she was learning was slightly questionable?

At some point it looked like it was about to rain, not to mention that Keigo had to carry Natsuo since he was having trouble keeping up, so unfortunately the walk was ended there. Himiko pouted about it until Touya promised he’d take her around again whenever he wasn’t busy. She grinned sharply and said she’d hold him to that promise as the group split up to go their separate ways, Keigo went with Fuyumi and Natsuo, and Touya took the two kids back home, Izuku was greeted by Shadow and Mop, and Himiko by Desmo. She spent the next hour telling the bulldog everything she’d done, as well as looking at the new contact in her phone, the fourth one so far, and she knew there were many more to come.

Notes:

Maybe I'm making my plans for Himiko a bit too obvious, but hey, that's part of the fun!
