Chapter Text
If you would’ve asked 20 year old Danny what he planned on doing in the next ten or so years, he’d probably say something like “finish college” or “get the Ghost King bullcrap over with as soon as possible”.
Past Danny would never believe future Danny if he told him that becoming a father was an alternative option to being Ghost King! Past Danny might have just called him crazy, believing he was another Dan situation and kicked his ass back to the future.
But here he is twelve years later, at the ripe age of thirty-two, taking care of a two year old child named Bruce. Who (by the way) is the cutest and sweetest little boy. Danny practically fell in love with him the second Clockwork handed him over to Danny, and his tiny itty bitty little hand grabbed his thumb. When he was handed over Clockwork explained that Bruce was killed in his universe and became a ghost, but because he died too soon, Clockwork decided to make him half ghost like him, and give him the chance to grow up again, this time in Danny’s care.
Danny was at first confused, why give him a child? Wouldn’t he at some point be too occupied by Ghost King duties to take care of him? Clockwork explained that, if Danny was up to taking in the child, then he wouldn’t have to become the king of ghosts.
Ofcourse Danny jumped at the chance to not take up the throne, and be cursed to do paperwork for the rest of eternity. And he was already fond of the small child in his hands. It would be a shame if he didn’t get to see him grow and get to know this little guy.
So, here Danny is, two years later in Gotham, Bruce’s original universe (the little guy had to grow up in Danny’s lair for a bit, something about his ecto levels needing to stabilize first?). He was planning at first to move to someplace called Park Row (or was it Crime Alley?) because the rent there was cheap but Clockwork shot that down fast, saying that;
“While living there is quite inexpensive, it’s also crime-ridden, and the part of the city where Bruce died. While, yes, he doesn’t remember much from his previous life, he still remembers key parts. For example, his death” Danny could tell that Clockwork found his next words amusing by the miniscule smirk on his face “when it is brought up that is.”
Danny had raised his eyebrow, unimpressed.
So, Danny had to pick the next best thing, he didn’t really want to give Bru a reminder of his death before he was ready to face that fact…
And so he landed on the Narrows as the-next-best-thing.
Danny ended up picking a nice (enough) two bedroom apartment, the kitchenette/dining room that was connected to the living room was on the left of the apartment, the bedrooms and bathroom at the end of the hall were on the right.
Thank the Ancients, that Danny didn’t have to deal with their legal documents, considering the fact that his original ones worked here too. He just had to change some stuff, because of the fact that Amity did not exist here. And Clockwork already had Bruce’s documents done by The Ghostwriter.
Once that was dealt with; Danny started job hunting! He got accepted into a repair shop, the place pays well and lets him get his hands dirty from time to time. Though he doesn't really trust anyone with babysitting Bru, so he’s a mostly stay-at-home dad. When he’s not at home, a few older kids come around to babysit Bruce.
Things seemed to be looking up for Danny. He has his own place, a kid to take care of and a pretty nice job that, at times, reminds Danny of his parents’ workshop/lab.
Yeah, there is no way Danny’s life could get any better.
