Chapter 1
Summary:
Light meets L at a nightclub and when a bomb goes off he feels compelled to save the human he'd planned on making his next meal. He soon realised there is a bond between them...
Chapter Text
L scanned the packed bar and felt his heart rate pick up. He hated crowds. He hated bars too! He'd lost Naomi over half an hour ago and he honestly just wanted to go home.
‘But it will be good for you to get out, L! Maybe you'll even get laid cos God knows you need it. Come to ‘Shatter’ with me? Pleeeease?’
L scowled at the memory. Well, it wasn 't good for him to be out and he didn't need to get laid either. He was 21, a virgin with no desire to change that and a social outcast which was just fine with him. He sure as hell didn't want to fit in with the normies, he didn't want to fuck anything with a pulse like everyone his age seemed to want and he didn't want to bloody be in a bar in the first place!
From the corner of his eyes he saw someone looking at him but paid no attention. He wasn't interested and if they made a move on him he'd be more than happy to kick them between the legs.
He felt a strange sense of dizziness. He hadn't drank much, only a few beers so he certainly wasn't drunk. L shook his head to dispel the feeling, completely unaware he was being watched intently.
L decided enough was enough. He wasn't going to waste any more time looking for his friend (and now that he thought about that, he still had no idea how he'd become friends with the pretty and popular Naomi Missora in the first place) and would just go back to their flat and chill out with some ice cream and a boxset. L decided he'd watch Breaking Bad again since it was a classic.
Naomi had probably pulled some hottie so he doubted she'd missed him. He was pulling out his phone to book an uber when he felt a strange sensation.
The hairs stood up on the back of his neck and he felt a twist deep in the pit of his stomach. Instantly, he was alert. He looked around himself, not seeing anything of concern but knowing better than to disregard his instincts.
Something bad was going to happen. He needed to leave.
He turned around and was about to head for the exit when a strange muted BOOM rang in his ears. He felt it in his bones and he was thrust forward, a cry wrenched from his throat as he bodily collided with another party goer.
He saw a flash of auburn hair and then he felt a pull. Was the person pulling him? Why?
L was dazed as he fell on top of the person. The person flung him beneath him so he was shielded as strange objects rained down around them. L couldn't move a muscle. The person, a guy, he thought, was shaking his shoulder.
“Can you hear me? Are you alright?”
Definitely a guy, and the one who was looking at him earlier too! And now that L thought about it, the guy had a nice voice. And a nice chest and, now that he was aware of it, a rather big…appendage was nudging against his hip…
Why was he thinking things like that ? He'd never paid attention to such things before. Maybe it was because the guy was literally on top of him?
L struggled to open his eyes and looked into two concerned, stunning amber eyes and felt his breath catch in his throat. The guy he was lying under was easily the most beautiful person he'd ever had the good fortune of seeing. His beauty was so striking even he couldn't look away. L wondered if he was a model or an actor.
“I…what?” L muttered, still dazzled, “What?” he couldn't hear properly. What on earth had happened? Was the man talking to him? His ears were ringing and was that people screaming?
The amber eyes burned into his and L stared back into them, confused at the warmth he felt spreading through his body. Those eyes seemed unnatural and otherworldly but he couldn't look away.
“I think a bomb went off. I managed to pull you away from the worst of it but it seems you're pretty dazed” the amber eyed adonis said slowly and carefully. He reached down and tilted L’s head to examine the trickle of blood coursing down his temple. A shrapnel wound, nothing serious.
The stranger gently pushed off of him and climbed to his feet and, with a show of strength that surprised L, grabbed his arm and lifted him up as if he weighed nothing more than a feather.
L blinked at the stranger, swaying on his feet so badly the man had to steady him. People were screaming and something was on fire. People were lying on the floor and there were blood splatters and…red, mushy bits of people …?
“Come on, you were looking for your friend, weren't you? She's alright, she was outside when it happened and she's looking for you now” the stranger explained, giving his arm a tug, “Come with me, L, you're safe”
L’s brain was too sluggish to catch up. If he had been thinking normally he would have instantly been alarmed because how would the stranger know what he had been doing? And how would he know his name?
L could do nothing but stumble after the tall, auburn haired man as he led him through the carnage and up the stairs of the club. The night air hit his face and L felt dazed all over again.
He heard a distant wailing. Sirens? He leaned back against a wall and tried to centre himself.
“Hey, look at me”
L felt compelled to obey and opened his eyes, looking up at the gorgeous man. He had the absurd desire to tell him he loved him.
‘What's going on with me?’ L thought, ‘I must have taken one hell of a whack to the head to be thinking such shit’
“You have a concussion. Let's go and sit down and when the medical team arrives you can be checked out. I'm Light, by the way”
L blinked at ‘Light’. Yes, the name suited him perfectly with that golden skin, those amber eyes and that red/gold hair. Light was indeed…light.
The thought made him giggle.
Light’s brows furrowed. The giggle made his stomach flutter and it made him feel…something strange. It made him feel attracted . Humans weren't supposed to do that to him , it was quite the other way around!
‘What's going on with me?’
In all honesty he'd picked the black haired human because he'd been drawn to his eyes and the intelligence he'd seen in them. A quick glimpse into L Lawliet’s psyche, just a touch into his mind, had the Incubus intrigued. This young human was different from his usual quarry. A virgin too (his absolute favourite!) which was something of a rarity these days. L Lawliet was just the type of human he enjoyed best. Clever, too clever really, and something of a lost soul.
He hadn't planned on killing this one, sensing there was something special and pure about him, but he'd definitely been interested in toying with him and draining some of that lovely energy. He'd been approaching the mortal to ensnare him when the bomb went off.
Now though… Light cleared his throat, feeling overwhelmed. Now it seemed he had some sort of attachment to the human. He'd saved him on instinct. If he hadn't pulled L into his arms and shielded him the human would have been nothing but blood and mush on the floor like the others who were unfortunate enough to be in the initial radius of the petrol bomb.
Light had felt compelled to save him, driven by some deep, dark force he didn't understand and had moved before his brain could even comprehend what he was doing. He could feel a bond between them, small though it was, and it troubled him deeply almost as much as it excited him.
He'd heard about the myths and legends of connections forged between Humans and Demons before but it simply didn't happen anymore in this modern age. Humans no longer feared Demonkind, they had no faith or fear in the world beyond them and they were no longer superstitious like they once were. Humans feared one another now (and with good reason, Light thought sagely, now they had bombs to go along with their penchant for hurting one another)
If it wasn't for the books Light had read he'd consider such a thing a myth. Humans were prey, afterall, not mates. But he'd read about such bonds. Some special humans were fated to be mates to Demons. Or they had been, in times long ago.
The few Incubus and Succubus Light had met over the years had all, with varying degrees of success, accepted they were just like the mortals and they too would die one day because bonding didn't happen anymore. Some of them had died. They'd starved themselves and abstained from stealing human lifeforce and had faded away to ash to end their torment.
Light had understood their reasons, even if their deaths had saddened him. He'd assumed, oneday, that would be his own fate too. He didn't want to live forever in this human world with no one beside him. Forever was simply too long of a time. He'd always wished for a mate of his own but he was too much of a realist to expect it to happen.
Bonding between Humans and Demons hadn't happened since the 1600’s (at least, that was the last Demon/Human bond that had been recorded that Light had read) and yet…
It had happened now. It had happened to him.
Now that he concentrated on it, he could feel L Lawliet’s energy within him. He could feel the bond between them, a small seed, but germinating and growing with each second that passed. Its energy was soothing to the Demon. the more he focused on it, the calmer he felt.
It was something thoroughly unexpected and marvellous and Light found himself taking a minute to just sense the humans energy. He was careful not to take any, the Human wouldn't be able to cope with such a thing in his current state and the bond between them forbade Light from harming him.
“Thank you for saving me, Light” L said quietly, finally feeling a little more like himself as the minutes passed.
L gave the handsome stranger a soft smile. ‘I think I could fall for you’ he thought, amused at himself for thinking such a thing. Knowing his luck, the guy was straight. Or even if by some miracle he was gay L doubted he would be his type.
He doubted he was anyone’s type, to be honest.
Still… he felt safe around Light. He owed the man his life. He hoped…tentatively, maybe they could be friends?
Light swallowed thickly at the soft look the human gave him. Those big, grey eyes were staring straight at him.
They looked like galaxies. He felt ensnared.
How did predators get ensnared by prey?!
‘Fuck’
L woke up a few hours later in the hospital. He felt thirsty and tried to remember what had happened.
The events came rushing back and his eyes widened. Where was Naomi? Where was the man who'd saved him?
Light ..
“Easy” Naomi soothed, pushing L back gently against the pillows, “It's okay, L, we're here”
‘We're here?’
L looked around and found himself sagging with relief at the sight of Light sitting near his bed. He couldn't understand it, he didn't know the man at all but he felt immediately reassured and calm just looking at him.
Was it because he had a crush on him? He'd had a crush on a few people when he was younger but he'd never felt like this before. L didn't believe in love at first sight or such nonsense as that. Obviously Light just had this calming energy about him like some people did. Light was attractive, of course, but he'd also bravely protected him without fearing for himself. That was deeply admirable in L's opinion. Maybe that was why he felt so relaxed around him?
“Hey, L, how are you feeling?” Light asked, probing just a little at the human's mind. L was happy he was there and L felt reassured by his presence. Most humans felt relaxed and happy when they were in close proximity to an Incubus or Succubus. It was their natural allure that drew their prey to them and made them walk willingly into their arms to be drained of their lifeforce.
Light pushed that thought aside. He'd find a human to drain later. Right now, he needed to figure out how he was going to adapt to having a human mate and to make sure his mate was okay.
“I'm…fine” L rubbed at his head and frowned as he felt the bandage, “My head hurts though”
“I'm so sorry I wasn't downstairs. I saw a friend and we were having a smoke outside. Naomi's dark eyes glistened with tears, “So many people died, L, over 20…”
L swallowed hard. He was grateful to have a sore head. Things could have been so much worse.
“Why did you save me, Light?” L asked quietly, “You could have been killed”
Light considered his response carefully. He couldn't tell L the truth, it would be too much for him to take in, particularly after the traumatic event he'd just endured, and he'd probably be shipped off for a psych evaluation if he told L that actually, a sacred and arcane bond had been forged between them and they were soulmates. No, he'd have to be careful about what he said and did until he had done some research into the bond between them. For now, L had to continue believing he was a human.
“I don't really know” Light finally replied, using his allure to keep L's attention fixed on him, and mixing in some truth since he didn't really know why he'd saved L initially,“I suppose I just felt I had to. I didn't put much thought into it”
“I see. So you're just very brave and a bit stupid then” L said before realising what he'd actually just said. His grandfather was right, his people skills were beyond rusty. Apart from Naomi and Quillish he really didn't hang out with anyone and he worked as a PI online so he didn't even have work colleagues either…
Naomi snorted and shook her head. “Way to go, L” she muttered under her breath. Honestly, anyone with a brain could see Light was into him. She was damned if she was going to let her socially awkward friend fuck this chance up, “What L meant to say was he definitely owes you a few drinks. Maybe a nice meal too…”
Light raised an eyebrow at the girl. She was a sassy and bold little thing and he liked that.
“Oh? Well, once he's up and on his feet again I'd love to if L is agreeable to it” Light purred, his gaze fixed on L's (wide and panicked) eyes
“What… with… me?” L spluttered uselessly, brain effectively short circuiting at the prospect of taking Light out for a meal.
“Yes" Light sat back in his chair, enjoying the awkward human's shock because it was kind of adorable, “I enjoy steak, What about you?”
“Uh…”
Naomi rolled her eyes. “L eats too much sweet stuff so a steak would do him good good. Wouldn't it, L? Protein. Building blocks of life and all that”
L raised an eyebrow at Naomi as the penny finally dropped. The bitch was setting him up on a date!
“I… guess I don't mind steak” L admitted slowly, “Uh, you don't have to go with me if you don't want to though. Ignore her, she's been trying to get me laid for 2 years with no success”
Naomi closed her eyes. ‘Filter, L?’
Thankfully, Light seemed more amusemed than put off, “Oh really? Well, she sounds like a good friend to you and I am very glad to have met you both and I would be very interested in going out to dinner with you, L”
L opened his mouth then closed it, words failing him. He'd nearly been blown up by a bomb, been rescued by the world's Hottest guy who now wanted to go out on a date with him?
“Fucking say yes you idiot” Naomi hissed while leaning in to fluff L's pillows.
“Yes. Okay” L said belatedly, still not quite believing that such a thing was actually happening.
Light gave L a sunny smile, “Great. Can I have your number?”
Naomi immediately whipped out her phone and handed it to Light. She'd brought L's number up in seconds.
L gave her a sour look. He was more than capable of giving the hot man his own number, thank you very much.
Light added the number to his phone and stood up, “Thank you, I'm looking forward to it. Now I know you're okay I'm afraid I really have to go. Work has been after me. Please feel free to text me whenever you like, L. It was very nice to meet you both”
Naomi beamed at Light, thoroughly charmed and impressed by his manners and his easy going grace. Light Yagami was the perfect match for her moody friend, she was certain of it. All she needed to do was just give him a little push and the rest would be history! If anything, the prospect of L getting a date out of such a traumatic event was at least a small silver lining. She didn't even want to think on what had happened At the bar yet and was doing her best to block it out (something she knew wasn't a particularly healthy coping mechanism)
L felt a little sad as he realised Light was leaving but forced himself to smile. He was being ridiculous. “I will text you soon, and thank you, Light”
Light took one last lingering look at his human before leaving the room.
He had a lot of reading to do before he met L Lawliet again and he was ravenous. As he was walking down the corridor he caught the eye of a nurse.
She was a redhead, mid 20's and wasn't particularly discreet about eyeing him up. Light gave her a warm smile and ordered the woman to follow him with nothing more than a touch to her mind.Without a word, he turned and walked into the nearest toilet and waited for her to follow.
She did, her eyes misty and her mind filled with the desire to do everything the amber eyed man wanted.
Light closed The door behind them and pressed her up against the wall. Her breath was shuddering with desire.
Light had had better meals, but he was feeling rather low on energy.
She'd do.

Chapter Text
A day had passed since meeting his bonded Human and Light was distressed to find he was feeling a physical ache at their separation. He missed L intensely. He would find himself touching their Mental connection, the fledgling bond between them, just to reassure himself that his Human was safe and well and his .
He'd text L and had received a warm response again thanking him for saving him and informing him he'd been discharged with no lasting injuries and had gone back home. L had asked if he'd like to meet at a prestigious steakhouse that Friday and of course, Light had happily agreed.
Since it was now Thursday, Light had some time on his hands so shamelessly searched for L on social media and had found virtually nothing, save for a brief mention of him on Naomi’s Instagram where she said she lived with her ‘Asshole Bestie, L’
No photos. No social media account of his own. No online presence.
It was very intriguing to the Demon that someone in this modern age where Technology was King and Social Media Queen, would turn their nose up to it. Hell, even he had Social Media (it was a useful tool in getting Lifeforce in a pinch)
L Lawliet was endlessly fascinating to him. He'd been able to tell by reading his mind that the young man was a PI and a good one at that, so perhaps the penchant for secrecy shouldn't be so much of a surprise. Sensing privacy was important to the young Human, Light had refrained from reading his thoughts since.
He admired the boy's drive to work and to make a name for himself and he had cracked some of the hardest cases in Britain. Light was amused to find L had investigated one of his recent kills but had been unable to achieve a satisfactory conclusion as to the cause of death.
‘Drained of lifeforce’ would not, for obvious reasons, come up on any test Human's had invented. Indeed, most Incubus or Succubus deaths were chalked off as ‘Adult cot death’ and an ‘unknown anomaly’
The humans were correct in that regard, at least.
Light sighed and put his book down. He'd done his best to research the bond between himself and his Human but has found very little. In fact, he'd learnt nothing new. It appeared other texts pertaining to bonds had been lost to the ravages of time, most likely as such a bond had not occurred, to Light's knowledge, in centuries.
Essentially, he was just as clueless as a mortal would be. It was highly frustrating and Light carded his fingers through his hair, reminding himself he'd been alive 500 years and that his power was the strongest he'd seen in Demon kind for centuries.
Whatever happened, he knew he would be able to handle it. As always, he would trust his instincts and let them guide him. It would be a learning process for both himself and L.
The texts he had read indicated when a Human bonded to a Demon at the end of the Human's lifespan (or before, if they willed it) the Demon would have the responsibility of ‘turning’ the Human into a Demon themselves to ensure immortality as the bond demanded.
Light couldn't help but wonder how L would feel about such a thing. Humans, for all their grandiose dreams of living forever and turning back the hands of time, could rarely deal with the actual reality of forever.
‘But L isn't just your average Human. That's why I was drawn to him in the first place. For now, I will take things as they come and let the bond develop between us. He's very young, there will be time enough to tell him what I really am and what is fate is later’
His phone buzzed and Light picked it up, a smile curving his lips as he saw it was from L.
‘Hey, Light, I hope this doesn't come across wrong but I'm a bit freaked out because I can't stop thinking about you. I really hope you don't think I'm a clingy creep but I felt I had to let you know that. I'm starting to regret sending this now 🫤’
“Ahh, The bond is settling” Light murmured, instantly thumbing a reply.
‘Hey, L, don't be silly, I find myself drawn to you too. I am thinking of you a lot and eagerly looking forward to tomorrow evening. You are a beautiful person, inside and out, and I can't wait to get to know you better. X’
Light sighed and closed his eyes, lying back on his bed and resting his phone on his chest. He'd have to go out and find some energy later. He didn't kill often but he decided he'd kill tonight. He wanted the energy reserves so he could focus all his time and attention on L tomorrow.
Light picked up his phone and scrolled through the various dating apps. A local Man named Adam had reached out asking for a no strings hookup, and was online and available.
Light smiled. He sent a message and the man jumped at the chance to meet up and a rendezvous had been arranged in just an hour's time.
It wasn't Adam’s day today, Light thought. He killed them quickly and without pain. He'd make sure Adam had a good time before he ended things. Once, many centuries ago, he'd felt guilty about killing Humans but now he viewed it the same way as Humans ate pigs or other animals. It was the food chain and the natural order of things.
He was a killer and a Demon but he didn't see himself as a bad person. He was neither good nor bad. He just was , the same as Humans were.
‘Thank God, I feel quite relieved to hear that! Naomi and I are going to go to the cinema now so I will text you when I'm out. I hope you have a good day at work. X’
Light smiled at the kiss. It was the first time L had returned it and as he touched the bond he felt a tingle run through him. L was thinking of him fondly. L was missing him and excited about seeing him again.
“Soon, L” Light closed his eyes in contentment. He'd meet Adam, get the lifeforce he needed and head to a florist. L's favourite flowers were white roses and he had a rather big sweet tooth. Light would make sure he impressed him tomorrow.
And, for the first time in his very long life, he wouldn't be trying to impress a Human to get into their pants (that was easy enough) rather, he would be doing it because he wanted to get into L Lawliet's heart .
L was pacing the lounge, anxiously glancing at the clock on the wall. Light was due to pick him up in 5 minutes.
5 fucking minutes .
He'd spent the day in a constant state of anxiety, both dreading and looking forward to 6 p.m. Now, The moment was almost here.
“L, chill. You look great. Everything will go great” Naomi gave L a thumbs up from where she lay sprawled on the sofa. She'd given L 6 pep talks today. Now she was on 7 but she was determined her friend was going out on this date. L was worried his social skills and general lack of experience would put Light off. Naomi had explained, patiently at first, that if that was the case Light wouldn't be so into him and he was a great guy worthy of love. As the hours passed, however, she threatened L with chucking out every single food item containing sugar in the house if he didn't ‘get his shit together’ and go on the date.
“He's gorgeous. He's kind, he's brave, he's hung , he's tall, he's got a good job, he's charming and he's into me , Naomi. Where's the catch?” L ticked off Light's attributes with his fingers.
Naomi let out a long suffering sigh and draped a hand dramatically over her face, “L, just shut up and go on the fucking date, Dude”
The ring doorbell chimed and L looked at Naomi with wide eyes.
“You'll be fine. Just don't puss out and move” Naomi swung her long legs off the sofa and all but frogmarched L towards the door. She answered it and gave Light a bright smile. “Hey, Light, you're looking a treat !” She complimented, smiling at his form fitting fed shirt and those sinfully tight slacks of his, “This is yours! Enjoy!” Naomi gave L a little push and L stumbled straight into Light.
L's face flamed red as Light automatically reached out to steady him. L looked up and felt his heart skip a beat. The smile on Light's face was beautiful and the scent of his cologne, a soft sandalwood scent, wafted over him. Light looked good, he smelled good and he was holding him.
No wonder his heart was going fucking nuts!
“Hey, L” Light's voice was low and sweet, “You look lovely”
L smiled shyly. He'd worn one of his good white shirts and a pair of form fitting Levis.
“Have fun, bye bye now” Naomi gave L a quick peck to the cheek and promptly closed the door, “Oh, I'm having a girl over later by the way, sex is happening so wear your earbuds if you come back here tonight!”
“Heh, she's a riot” Light smirked, shaking his head in amusement. L was very fortunate to have such a spirited friend like Naomi.
“She's a witch ” L grumbled, finally feeling a little more sure of himself. He smiled as Light handed him a bouquet of roses and a big box of chocolates, “How did you know white roses were my favourite?” L asked, Thoroughly impressed at the sweet gesture. The chocolates Light had gotten him were the speciality Belgian ones. He hadn't cheaped out at all.
‘Does that mean he's trying to impress me? Because if it does it's worked’
Light shrugged easily, “I'm good at reading people and pick things up easily. You could say I'm something of an empath…”
L tilted his head, fascinated at such a thing. He was the opposite, sure, he could read people as far as motives for crime and was good at profiling criminals but he really didn't have the people skills or abilities Light seemed to possess.
“Thank you so much for these” L inhaled the fresh, sweet scent of the roses, “I…Uh, I got you something too” he admired shyly, “I left it in the flat. Let me just go get it”
L let himself back in. Light sent a wave of reassurance to his Bondmate. L was a naturally nervous and reserved person but he wanted him to feel as calm and relaxed around him as possible and he had the ability to do that.
“I swear to God, L, if you've backed out on going on a date with that hunk I will-” Naomi turned around and spotted Light, “Heh, sorry”
L shot her a look and handed her the flowers and chocolates before grabbing the small package he'd left on the counter.
“Why, yes, L, of course I will put these in a vase for you since you asked so politely” Naomi sassed, but her eyes were sparkling. Light was treating her boy right and she approved.
“Thanks” L pecked her cheek, “Enjoy the hot lesbian sex you bitch” he murmured before returning to Light and handing him the gift bag. Somehow, he felt a little bolder and not as nervous as he had when Light had first arrived. Light definitely had a soothing presence!
Naomi squealed and quickly rushed to close the door again so her friend and Light could start their date.
Light opened it and was thoroughly charmed to see an ornate book mark that was made of gold, amber and had an intricate phoenix design. “Wow” he breathed. He'd never had such a beautiful, thoughtful gift before in all his long years of existence. “L…this is stunning ! You really didn't have to…”
Light felt a little choked up and cleared his throat. He would treasure the bookmark forever.
L smiled, pleased at Light's reaction, a blush burning across his cheeks, “I'm glad you like it”
Light had told him while he was in hospital he was an avid reader and when L had spotted it in an antique shop he'd immediately stopped and felt a pull to buy it. It had cost a small fortune, but L sensed it was perfect for Light and he'd bought it without hesitation. It was the least he could do for the man who'd saved his life and he'd wanted to impress him and make him happy.
Light was tempted, oh so tempted, to Just lean in and kiss him right there. He bit back the impulse and kept his allure at the lowest it could possibly go. He wanted L to want him for him, not his allure. “Shall we? I'm parked outside”
L nodded, feeling more excited than awkward as they walked to Light's car. Obviously the man was driving a sleek red sports car and a top of the range Jaguar no less.
“Wow” L nodded at the car, “You're a car guy, Light?”
Light smiled cryptically, “I enjoy the finer things in life” he replied, opening L's door for him, “And I admit, I am very attached to my Dee"
L snickered, charmed Light had named his car. He climbed into ‘Dee’ and was again surprised to find himself feeling increasingly more relaxed and at ease.
Light climbed in and pressed the start button, giving L a soothing, beautiful smile, “I'm really looking forward to tonight” he put the car in drive and pulled off smoothly, “I don't drink alcohol so feel free to indulge if you want to, I will ensure you get back home safe”
L laughed, “To hear Naomi having her hot lesbian sex? I can't wait”
Light gave L a thoughtful glance, “Well, you are more than welcome to have my guest room. No pressure though, and I can assure you I wouldn't attempt anything…untoward”
L blinked at Light. Sometimes some of the things he said seemed so old and formal, almost as if his soul was older than his body. “Ha, I appreciate that. I Uh…I trust you” L admitted quietly, “Thank you for inviting me”
Light flicked his eyes to the road before indicating and turning into the car park for the Steakhouse. L was surprised they'd arrived so quickly. Time had seemed to fly by.
“I certainly wouldn't” Light clarified, “As much as I would adore things to progress that way between us I think it's important for expectations and realisations to be laid clear. You don't have experience with dating or relationships whereas I do, so anything that did happen would be set at your pace”
‘He's… he's so nice and considerate. I am truly so lucky to have met someone like him. I cannot fuck this up!’
“Thank you” L said, tentatively optimistic that, despite his own insecurity, he could enjoy this date and that something good would come out of it. He decided he'd stop analysing everything and just see where the night went. He'd take a leaf out of Naomi's book and try not to over think.
They entered the restaurant and were seated near the window, something L was grateful for. He didn't like feeling hemmed in and the restaurant was very full. Yet, it seemed to have a peaceful, romantic ambience to it. Soft piano music played and the lights were low and dim. The whole environment seemed suited to intimate whispers and conversations and L was fascinated as he watched the couples all around him enjoy their wine, dinner and conversation. Not once in a million years had he considered he would be in a place like this on a Friday night on a dare of his own.
“I know Naomi sort of bullied you into arranging this date” Light began, “But I'm very glad we are here. This is your first date so I plan on making it a good one for you”
L laughed softly, “Oh, so this is you taking me on a date now and not the other way around?” he could live with that. In fact, he prefered it. It didn't seem right for him to take the lead, especially when he had no idea about dating etiquette and all that complex stuff.
Light's eyes glimmered. Oh yes, his Human was feeling very relaxed and happy in his presence, not to mention pleased with his decision, and he amped up his allure, just the smallest bit, to ensure his Human stayed that way.
L deserved to have a nice time and Light was getting a heady sensation by just sensing the emotions running between their bond. He needed to be in the Human's company. He was gaining energy and happiness just by sitting close to him. It was addicting and Light breathed it in, feeling perfect contentment for the first time in his very long life.
“I suppose it is, I want to spoil you” Light admitted, “I found you fascinating the instant I laid eyes on you in that God awful club. You seemed so lost and out of place and your eyes…You're special, L, and you can't see it. It makes you even more beautiful in my eyes”
L really found himself struggling to reply verbally to that, but it seemed he didn't need to. Light's eyes crinkled in understanding and he reached out with his hand. L reached back, a shiver running through him at the feeling of their fingers interlinking. Everything felt so natural, holding Light's hand. God he couldn't look away from those amber eyes.
‘I'm falling for him. This is absurd but that is what's happening’ L thought, entranced at the way Light stroked his thumb over his knuckles. So simple a touch shouldn't feel so good but it felt like everything. Maybe Naomi was right, maybe he was ‘touch starved?’ Or maybe it was just because Light was touching him?
“Good Evening, Sirs, are you Ready to order?”
Light, who had been gazing into his Human's eyes adoringly, looked up at the waiter.
“L?” He asked, aware neither of them had even looked at the menu.
“Uh, i'll just have what you have, please” L said, knowing he'd probably pick at the food anyway.
Light smiled and ordered them both Sirloin, He prefered his steak rare but doubted L would so ordered them both Medium. He touched L's mind briefly and smiled. L liked chocolate and sweets the best and he did prefer his steak medium.
Light ordered lobster, steaks, fries and onion rings, a bottle of their best red for L and some soda and lemon for himself, and then chocolate torte for after. He didn't really gain much energy from Human food but did enjoy the experience of eating good food and Light figured if he ate well L would be inclined to follow his lead. L needed to put on a few pounds, Light decided, and so he'd just have to eat some more himself to encourage that to happen.
L blinked at him. That was a lot of food! Light was ripped, though, so He assumed he probably worked out a lot and ate a lot too.
“Very good, Sirs” The waiter bowed his head and left the couple to their date.
“You mentioned you don't drink Alcohol” L mused when the waiter left them, “Don't like the taste or is it for personal reasons?”
Light went with not liking the taste when in actual reality Alcohol tended to dampen his allure and lower his natural ability to charm and manipulate Humans. He'd drank before, but only when he'd felt safe and comfortable with his own kind. He would never purposefully weaken himself around Humans; they were too unpredictable. He felt he could drink with L, of course, but as his mate he wanted to be on top form to protect him should the need arise. Maybe one day, when things were more settled between them, Light would indulge when it was just the two of them, log cabin and the forest at their feet…
“What are you thinking about? You look wistful” L commented, charmed at the Longing gleam in Light's eyes.
“Oh, just how the candle light brings out your beauty” Light replied smoothly and evasively.
Their drinks arrived and Light didn't have to reach for his Human’s hand this time.
L had reached for his own first.

Chapter Text
By the time they'd finished their mains and were waiting for dessert, L was a bit tipsy but he figured it was fine since Light was smiling at him and hadn't run away screaming yet.
In fact, the entire date had felt like something out of a movie, or a dream, L thought. Light was charm and grace personified and L knew he was falling hard and fast. He'd worry about that later, right now he just didn't want the evening to end.
“So you're an author?” L asked as he finished off his wine, “What do you write about?”
“Oh, I prefer writing crime thrillers and supernatural dramas” Light refilled L's glass, “But I have been known to write the odd romance too”
L arched an eyebrow. He'd honestly pegged Light as a personal trainer or a firefighter with his fit physique. He found it quite charming that the man was both a lover of the written word and a writer himself. He loved reading so was curious if he'd read any of Light's works. He'd never heard of Light Yagami the author but many authors didn't use their real names…
“Do you write using your name or a pen name? I read a lot, and I've never heard of you…” L quizzed.
“A pen name. If you've read anything by Anako Asahi, That's me. I'm pretty popular” Light smiled demurely. That was putting it mildly. He was an international best seller.
L's mouth dropped open in shock. “Oh my god . You’re Anako??! I've read all your crime thrillers! And The Green Witch is one of my favourites too. I can't believe this. And I love the Skeleton crew too! Fuck. Okay, calm down. Shit. Light, Can you sign my books for me sometime? Fuck, now I'm going to be even more nervous…” L was nearly having a full on meltdown. His date just happened to be his favourite author he was obsessed with. He couldn't wait to tell Naomi!
Light smiled sweetly, finding the fanboying and rambling rather adorable.
“I'd be happy to sign your books for you, L, and since we are on a date I will let you in on a little secret. As long as you promise to not breathe a word of it to anyone” Light said teasingly, oddly touched at the way L was genuinely a fan of his writing and wasn't just saying it to score favour. It was a useful tool of an Incubus but Light could tell when Mortals were lying to him. There was nothing but sincerity, attraction and admiration flowing to him from the bond they shared.
L immediately mimed zipping up his mouth, eyes sparkling with excitement, “I swear I won't!”
“I'm halfway through writing a sequel to The Green Witch” Light said with a wink, “It’s set 20 years later and is about Annabele, Clarisa’s daughter…”
L’s eyes shone. That was it. Whether he was a virgin, inexperienced fuck up or not, he needed to marry Light Yagami right now.
“I think it's going to be even more popular,” Light teased.
“Please tell me Aracha dies. Pleeease!”
L begged. He fucking hated that slimey piece of shit with a passion. The fact he'd survived the assassination attempt had been the only time he'd hated Anako.
Light , even (and God was it strange getting used to that )
Light’s smile curved slyly, “You will just have to wait and find out, Sweetheart”
Light hadn't really thought about it but if his bondmate wanted him dead then he could definitely dream up a fitting end for that character…
L flushed at the term of endearment, his breath catching in his chest. It felt…nice to be called that.
The deserts came and L practically inhaled his, moaning about how good It was. Light immediately offered L his own once L had finished his.
“But it's yours?” L had to protest, even though he did actually want to eat more of the chocolate Torte. He'd never tasted anything like it before.
“I only ordered it because I suspected you'd enjoy it. I'm not a fan of sweet things. Other than you , of course” Light's eyes were golden in the dim light and shining with sincerity.
L laughed at that. Light Yagami was smooth .
“Heh” L really didn't know what to say and felt a bit of an idiot with all the blushing he was doing. He finished Light’s desert and listened intently as Light told him about his various trips overseas. Light ordered some more drinks and handed L his phone, even telling him the pass code so L could look through his photos.
L was startled at the show of trust and smiled shyly. He'd offer to show Light his own photos but he doubted Light would be very interested in photos of cakes he'd eaten and the odd shot of Naomi flipping him off. His phone was
Light had lived a very colourful, fulfilling life, L realised, and he was fascinated by Light's tales of trying local delicacies and seeing native wildlife. L was pleased to discover they both had a soft spot for forests and scrolled through the photos on Light's phone of his latest trip to Alaska.
“This is incredible” L laughed, “And you've taken so many photos of bears up close. Did you charm them too? I thought bears tried to eat people not pose for photos”
Light's smile was sly. The bears, sensing what he was, had frozen when they'd sensed his presence. They'd been unsure of what to do since they'd never encountered a predator like him before. He'd snapped a few photos before sending them on their way unharmed. “Something like that…” Light cupped his cheek in his hand, “They're actually quite inquisitive creatures. If you leave them alone they will, more often than not, do the same to you. I definitely plan on returning back and exploring more of the wilderness in the future”
Light settled the bill and asked L if he wanted to come back to his house to spend the night. L immediately agreed, not wanting the night to end. Besides, L was feeling more than a little tipsy at this point and the thought of leaving Light was an uncomfortable one. He trusted Light and knew he would be fine in the spare room. Light was too much of a gentleman to try anything untoward (and honestly, even if he did L doubted he'd have the resolve to refuse him)
“I have spare toiletries and stuff in the bathroom” Light explained as they left the restaurant and headed towards Dee, “You can borrow some lounge wear if you like to sleep in, they'll probably be a bit big on you though”
L flushed, imagining himself wearing Light’s clothes, “That would be great, thank you. I'll just text Naomi to let her know I won't be back tonight”
“Sure” Light smiled, thinking of how amazing it was that his bond mate was coming back to his home. In L's place there should be a half-drunk guy he'd fuck and drain the life out of before dumping his body in the river.
He'd imbibed enough energy to ensure he wouldn't be tempted by L and he was excited at the prospect of knowing L was sleeping under his roof even if he wouldn't be in his own bed (yet)
L had finished sending his text and smiled sweetly as Light opened the car door for him. A gentleman indeed. L was glad to get into the car, the fresh air seemed to make him feel way more inebriated than he'd felt in the restaurant. In fact, by the time Dee pulled up smoothly outside Light's home L had to admit he was pretty smashed.
“L?” Light asked, soft eyes filled with concern as he sensed how intoxicated his bondmate actually was through their bond. L's thoughts were jumbled and not really making much sense at all… and was L thinking he smelt nice right now?
‘Oops’ Light hastily withdrew, feeling guilty he'd accessed L's thoughts. He hadn't meant to. Perhaps it was because L was so drunk and he wasn't even consciously aware of what he was thinking?
“Come on, let's get you inside” Light smiled at L reassuringly, he turned the engine off and climbed out of the car, opening L's door for him.
Unfortunately, alcohol made L clumsy and he stumbled out, letting out a faint yelp as Light grabbed him to steady him.
“Shit, I'm so sorry” L mumbled, embarrassed and turned on as he inhaled Light's cologne. His face was pretty much buried in his chest and L felt a sizzle of lust race through him. He looked up and stared at Light. Light looked…otherworldly.
His eyes were gleaming a colour which couldn't be natural. Pure gold…
Light could feel how fast the human's heart was beating and every instant Inside him was screaming at him to kiss the mortal and fuck him senseless, drain his energy, give it back, fuck him again…
Light felt trapped as he stared into hazy grey eyes. ‘I shouldn't. He's drunk…’
“Light…” L frowned up at him, “Why are your eyes gold?”
Light smiled, just a flash of amusement, before he blinked and his eyes returned to their warm amber. “I think we should get you inside, L” he said again, gently but persuasively. L had lifted his head and tried to kiss him.
Light couldn't let that happen, as much as he wanted it to…
L blinked, feeling a little hazy as he found himself walking (almost against his will) towards the house. He'd been about to kiss Light. Why had he stopped and walked away?
“Come on” Light encouraged, leading L up the path and opening his door, “You've clearly had a bit too much” he kept his tone soft and kind, “Happens to the best of us, am I right?”
L frowned. Yes, he must be very drunk indeed. Of course Light's eyes weren't gold. Of course he wasn't going to kiss Light. Light was…
Light was waiting for him. L hurried inside, a flush lighting up his face. Had he blown it? Why was Light being so kind and understanding to him when he was spouting nonsense like a drunk idiot?
“L” Light said softly, his eyes (amber, L realised) twinkling in amusement, ”You're an adorable drunk, don't panic”
L smiled shyly, his relief obvious. He glanced around Light's home (fancy, being the only adjective his drunk mind could come up with) as he was shown to the guest bedroom.
“Get a good night's rest, L, and I will see you in the morning for breakfast” Light bowed his head before forcing himself to close the door and leave L alone to rest.
“Thank you, Light. Goodnight” L muttered, scarecely believing his luck.
L looked around the guest room, awed by how beautiful it was. Decorated in tasteful nude colours but with eye catching Japanese accents like maple leaf motifs and…L smiled at the small Bonsai tree on the window sill.
Light was clearly a man of exceptional taste.
‘Which begs the question what on earth does he see in me?’ L pondered as he walked into the en-suite and marvelled at the sheer luxury and opulence. If this was what a guest room looked like he wondered how amazing Light's own room would be.
L was tired and the room was spinning but he doggedly brushed his teeth and changed into the sleepwear Livht had so kindly leant him. Once he was finished in the bathroom he stumbled towards the bed and crawled Under the sweet smelling, thick duvet.
“Nice” L moaned, feeling exceptionally snug. This was really a taste of how the other half lived, he figured. He had enough money, maybe he should actually use some of it on creature comforts like fancy down bedding for himself instead of keeping his ratty old duvet he'd had since he was a teenager?
He was snoring before he could even finish his train of thought, helped to sleep by a sweet mental nudge (more of a suggestion really) from Light that he rest.
From outside the guestroom, Light could hear the cute snores his guest was letting out. He let his head thump into the wood of the door. He was hard and aching and he needed to feed! Having his bondmate just lying there in his own home was testing every ounce of restraint he had.
‘I can control myself. I will control myself’ Light swiftly turned and returned to his own bedroom. He needed to be patient. L was a temptation, yes, but he wasn't foolish enough to try and feed from him. L was his guest and he was determined to court his soulmate properly.
Light huffed and padded back downstairs. It was midnight but there were a few people milling around the streets. Light called a middle aged man to him and the man abruptly turned, left his friends, and walked calmly towards Light’s House. He wasn't Light's usual fare, but Light figured he'd have to do.
He'd need all the strength and energy possible to keep himself away from L…

Chapter Text
L awoke cocooned in absolute warm softness and he moaned, not wanting to have to get up and leave his newfound haven.
And then the hangover hit.
“Owww” L moaned, his mouth dry and head pounding, “Fuck. How much wine did I drink? Light's going to think I'm a lush” he whispered to himself.
He had to smile, however, as he remembered that perfect date. Was Light awake, he wondered? He needed coffee, and desperately, surely Light wouldn't mind if he went downstairs and made some?
‘Of course he won't. He's a gent’
L, reluctantly, climbed out of the bed and moaned pitifully as his head continued to pound.
‘No wonder Light doesn't drink’ L thought as he opened the door and headed towards the stairs. He paused, head cocked as he heard the sounds of smooth jazz music floating up the stairs. He sniffed, the scent of frying bacon (and more importantly, brewing coffee) making his mouth water.
Was Light making him breakfast?
‘Be still my beating heart’
L padded downstairs and entered the kitchen, a shy smile lighting up his face at the sight of Light bustling around the kitchen.
He hadn't made a sound but Light turned to him with a sunny smile, “Good morning, L! Please sit down, I'm pretty much done. I was going to bring it up to you”
‘Naomi is not going to believe this’ L thought, numbly crossing to the table in a state of daze, “You really didn't have to go to all this trouble, Light”
“Not at all, you're worth it” Light cooed. He could feel his bondmates headache and sent a little wave of healing energy his way, “Now, I know you are a connoisseur of all things sugary but I do hope you might try some normal food too?”
“I will” L promised, stomach flipping with happiness. Just being in Light's presence seemed to make his hangover fade, he felt better already! “You're so kind, Light… I felt like an idiot waking up this morning feeling worse for ware and you were down here making this”
Light smiled sweetly. Well, L was partly right. He'd been dumping a body in the early hours and then he'd decided to go for a run, check in on L (which was a bit bad but he couldn't help himself! L had looked so adorable curled up in his bed) And then he’d started breakfast.
“You know, that bed of yours. I had the best night's sleep I've ever had” L admitted as Light handed him a coffee, “That duvet was…oh god…”
Light's eyes widened at the moan. He liked the sound of that! And he knew immediately he would be purchasing L the entire bedding set so he could sleep as well at home (until he moved in with him, anyway)
L smiled shyly, noting Light's blush and his own face reddened in turn. He hastily took a sip of coffee and squeaked as he promptly burnt his tongue. “Ow!”
Light bit his lip to smother his laughter and sent another little wave of healing energy to his awkward, adorable little human.
“Here, Darling” Light cooed, handing L a cup of juice.
L smiled gratefully and took a sip, feeling the relief almost immediately. “Thank you, Light” L frowned as his phone began to ring. Naomi, most likely.
“Feel free to answer” Light smiled, knowing being courteous as far as the charming Naomi Missora went would put him in L's good books.
“Oh, thanks” L answered and smiled as Naomi immediately began pestering him.
“So? How did it go? Are you still there now? Ooh, did you kiss? Did you fuck? No, scratch that last one, of course you didn't. Well? I want answers, Lawliet”
L kept his face straight as he saw Light bite back a smile and turn to fetch more food.
“Noms” L hissed, “We are having breakfast. It was very lovely and I will speak to you later about this. How was the hot lesbian sex, by the way?” He asked, hoping to get his own back. He soon realised his mistake, however, when Naomi launched into a particularly vivid blow-by-blow accounting of her night, “You know what, never mind. Of course you'd say everything. Look, I'm going to go. I'll see you later”
“Fine! Morning, Light! You take care of my grumpy little bastard won't you? See you soon, Light, and welcome to the family, Baby!”
L hung up, a faint blush dusting his cheeks. There was no way Light hadn't heard that. The entire street had probably heard it.
Light sat down and smirked at L, “Welcome to the family, huh?”
L smiled sheepishly, “She's clearly relieved I'm dating someone. I mean, wait, shit, I didn't mean-are we dating? Does going on a single date mean people are dating?”
Light reached for L's hand, “I would very much like to take you on another date, L, So by that definition I'd say yes, we are dating”
‘Holy fucking shit. I'm dating someone. I'm dating Light, my favourite author. I'm dating Light the guy who saved my life and fuck, I cannot process this! But it feels right. I can't believe I'm thinking this mushy shit but it feels like fate ’
L nodded his head, his eyes fixed on Light's. He detected no deception. Somehow, Light really did want him.
“Good. Eat up” Light nodded at L's untouched food, “I won't have my man go hungry”
‘Askeicbwopaqkdnjsqoqmxnj’ L's brain helpfully piped up as he speared a mushroom and hastily shoved it in his mouth.
‘Oh fuck, he's too much’ Light felt starving and took a small sip of coffee to center himself. It appeared that L's presence was extremely challenging, even with his power and self restraint.
‘He's my bondmate. I want him to fall for me before I tell him what I am. I want him to want me for me, not my allure. I've got to be patient and go at his pace’ Light reminded himself.
They chatted about their day (L had work that afternoon, a few cases had been sent to him) and Light said he had writing to do (which he did, he would be changing the plot of his story to make L happy) and both turned to the TV as a breaking news story flashed up on screen.
“The body of a man has been found washed up on Fukimo beach this morning by a dog walker. Police were called and now forensics are at the scene, combing the area which has been closed off to the public…”
L raised an eyebrow, instantly intrigued. Another dead body? They were certainly piling up…
“How awful” Light murmured, noting the way L could barely tear his eyes from the screen. ‘Of course, he's a PI. He's probably already compiling a case in his head. It's a shame the tide changed, his body would have been hidden by the sea otherwise but it is what it is. It will just be another mysterious death that can't be solved’
“Mmm. Awful” L frowned as the news anchor informed her viewers that the death wasn't currently being treated as suspicious. “No visible marks to the body then, just like the others” L muttered, mind already whirling with theories as to how the poor man had met his end. He was convinced there was a serial killer in Tokyo, a serial killer of the highest calibre. Somehow, they had killed (in the last year alone) 17 people with no marks on the body. No signs of foul play, no poison. Nothing had come up in autopsy reports.
The killer was almost…supernatural in their ability.
“Are you alright, L?” Light asked mildly, a little amused at the sight of his bondmate thinking so hard over a death he had caused.
“Yes, fine…” L shook his head to clear his thoughts. He wasn't at work yet and He wanted to make the most out of his time with Light, “Sorry, it's the job” L excused. “I spend more time than I should thinking about all the dead bodies popping up around Tokyo. The news doesn't help, every other day there's a story on the Assassin”
Light's smile was sly, “There is indeed”
‘Maybe I will cut back on killing and just have sex with more people to compensate for the Kills? I don't want to make him stressed or overwork him’ Light mused, wondering if he could get L to open up to him and share his thoughts on ‘Tokyo's Silent Assassin’ as he had been dubbed by the media. Perhaps after a few more dates…
“Anyway, let's not talk about that” L figured talking about dead bodies and murder investigations probably wasn't the best topic of conversation to have with someone you were dating.
“True, it doesn't make for the most light-hearted conversation, Light smiled, “My calendar is pretty free for the next few weeks…plenty of time for some more dates, if you'd like?”
L smiled and, feeling bold, leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss to Light's cheek.
Light hadn't been expecting it and he was startled at how fiercely the hunger surged up within him. For all of his self control, he couldn't stop himself from seeking L's lips with his own.
L made a surprised sound, and Light realised he was letting some of his allure slip from him on instinct.
‘Shit! No!’
But it was already too late. By the time he'd thought that L was panting into his mouth, his pupils were blown black with desire for him and mouth moving hungrily under his own.
Light could have slapped himself. Yes, the kiss had been unexpected but he should have prepared himself for situations like this. He'd thought he was in control!
Light couldn't stop himself kissing L back, groaning into his mouth and curling a hand around the nape of L's neck to pull him in closer.
L was scarcely able to process the kiss, all he could think about was the all consuming heat burning through him And the need to get as close to Light as possible. If Light wanted to strip him and take him right over the kitchen table that was just fine with him! In fact, Light should be doing that.
L kissed Light harder, moaning desperately into the kiss. As Light sucked on his tongue L let out a frantic whine, scrabbling to climb into Light's lap and get himself as close as possible to that maddening source of heat and fire.
Light clutched L to him, growling at the feeling of the human's arousal pushing against his own stiring flesh. L's scent was clogging up his senses and he breathed it in, his senses reeling as his hands clutched at L's hips to hold him in a possessive, hungry grasp.
‘I Should… I should stop…’
But even as he thought it it was getting harder and harder to resist the human whining and panting into his mouth. L felt like heaven in his arms and Light knew if he wanted to he could just pin him down and have him-
‘No!’
Light tore his mouth away from L's and closed his eyes, visibly shaking as he forced himself to calm down.
‘He can't consent to this! He wouldn't want this. Fucking calm down, Light, calm down now!!’
“Li-Light?” L stammered, eyes foggy as he searched Light's face. It took a few moments before the fog lifted and he realised he was sitting in Light's lap. His face flamed red and he tried to scramble back, only for him to lose his balance.
Light's arm shot out to grab L before he fell, his reactions lightening fast despite the fact his inner Demon was still snarling at being denied the chance to mate with his soulmate.
“Shit-” L clutched at Light's arm, eyes widening In alarm, “What happened?”
Light swallowed hard, his blood still racing through his veins at L's continued proximity and the smell of him. He licked at his lips, a shudder running through him. His human tasted so sweet.
He was losing control…
“L” Light rasped, “I think you'd best get off me”
L nodded, confused, and awkwardly chambered off his lap. “I'm sorry… I didn't mean…”
Light needed to feed and he needed to feed now.
“L…” Light hated it but he knew he'd have no choice but to do It if he wanted L safe, “L, you need to sleep. Sleep now ”
L managed a small frown, confusion flickering briefly across his face before his knees buckled and his eyes closed. Light grabbed him before he could hit the floor and injure himself.
He carried L over to the sofa and laid him down then placed a hand over his head. He could confuse his memories a little, make L believe he'd passed out and be confused about the kiss…
“I'm sorry, L, I thought I had a handle on this” Light confessed quietly, “But I don't. All you did was kiss my cheek and I lost control…I need to keep you safe but how can I do that when you're near me?”
L sighed in his sleep, blissfully unaware of Light's dilemma. Light removed his hand, knowing his magic had worked, and let out a shaky sigh.
He needed to feed.
He'd think of a plan later but right now if he didn't claim human energy as soon as possible he could put L at risk and that wasn't an option.
Light scribbled a quick note for L in case he should wake in his absence and grabbed his coat and car keys. He wouldn't kill, but he'd drain someone near death.
And hopefully it would be enough until he figured out what he was going to do…

Chapter Text
When L woke up he found himself lying on Light's couch, extremely confused and disorientated. He sat up and looked around the lounge, eyes settling on a note lying on the table.
Hey L, I hope you're okay. You fainted so I've left you on the sofa to come around. I think you should make a Dr's appointment. Just went out to help a neighbour, I will be back in 15 minutes.
Light
“I fainted?” L frowned at the note. He'd never fainted before in his life. However, he did distinctly remember feeling dizzy…
And hadn't he kissed Light or had he imagined that?
‘No…I'm certain we kissed. God, did I faint because we kissed? There's no way I'm that awkward, surely?’
L curled up on the sofa, ears pricking as he heard the sound of a key turning in the lock.
“Sweetheart, You awake?”
L sat up straighter, utterly mortified “Yes” he mumbled, “I'm sorry I fainted”
“No, don't apologise. I've been thinking… Naomi mentioned you tend to eat a lot of sweet stuff and not much protein. Do you think you might be anaemic, L?”
The lie tasted sour on his tongue but Light knew he'd had to think of something convincing to fool L. L was just too sharp and if he had to make L faint again in the future (though he really hoped that wouldn't be the case) he would become suspicious. Besides, Light could sense a faint trace of sickness within L’s blood. Not threatening but there. It wouldn't surprise him if L really was anaemic. So it wasn't a complete lie, Light comforted himself, even if it did make him feel sick to have to lie to his bondmate.
Still, if what he detected was anaemia then he could make sure he ate better and took better care of himself. He had only just turned 21, he was young and needed a guiding hand. Light could do that, he was certain.
What he wasn't certain about was his control over his own powers. He would have to contact some of his kin and see if there was knowledge lost to him about such things. He had no choice but to control himself and his Demonic nature. L’s life (and, therefore, by extension) his own was at stake.
“...I guess that makes sense” L nodded, “Naomi is always nagging at me to eat better and I don't really eat many foods with iron in them”
Light sat down next to L and gave him a tired smile. He'd drained a young man to the point of death and left him slumped on a park bench. The park was busy so Light had hoped someone would intervene and check up on him. But he knew how people were (that is, wrapped up in their own little lives) so ordered a young couple walking their dog towards the man anyway, just in case.
“Will you make a doctor's appointment and get checked out?”
“Yes” L nodded his agreement. He loathed going to the Doctors but he'd go to please Light, “I’ll book one for tomorrow”
“How about I pick you up and then we can go for lunch after?” Light suggested, hoping L would agree. Of course he knew he could use his allure to make L agree but that was unthinkable.
“Sounds good” L returned Light’s smile, “I really should be heading back soon, Light, I have a lot of work I need to catch up on. Thank you for showing me such a lovely time, I really enjoyed it”
Light tentatively reached out to stroke L’s bangs from his face. His skin tingled but he didn't feel the all consuming hunger. His Demon was content and happy and he felt in control. He wondered if he initiated contact and not L would it be enough to keep control? It was time to test the theory.
So much depended on it.
“May I kiss you, L?” Light asked softly.
“Yes” L's heart was racing as Light leaned in and brushed his lips against his. L titled his head, eyes closing as he felt Light's tongue press into his mouth.
‘Oh this is so nice…’ L curled his fingers into the soft material of Light's shirt, shyly tugging him closer.
‘This is fine. I'm in control of this so obviously it's when he touches me that I'm affected ’ Light hummed, deepening the kiss and enjoying it. He could feel his human's happiness and curled his tongue around his, smirking into the kiss as L let out a delicious sounding whine. ‘Still, best not to push my luck’
Light reluctantly withdrew from the kiss and tenderly cupped L's cheek, “I could kiss you all day, Sweetheart. It's probably best if you go before we both get a bit distracted, huh?”
L smiled shakily, knowing that was a real possibility. Kissing Light was definitely up there with Belgian chocolate ice cream as far as delicious things went. “Okay, text me later?”
Light indulged in just another quick press to L's lip, “I will”
“And then, to top it off we kissed when we were having breakfast and I fainted” L said to Naomi as he gave his friend the full debrief over an evening coffee, “I've made a Doctors appointment for tomorrow, Light believes I might be anaemic”
Naomi frowned at her friend, that made sense. His diet was awful and he was as pale as fuck. Still, it was surprising L had taken the initiative and made an appointment. No doubt that was Light's doing.
“Want me to come with you to actually make sure you go to the appointment?” Naomi offered, even though she suspected her services wouldn't be needed.
“Light is meeting me and we're going for lunch after” L admitted sheepishly, “Thank you though, Nom”
Naomi nodded, a smile curling her lips. It seemed L and Light were getting along brilliantly. Light was clearly a good influence on L if he was going to get checked out. He'd scored himself some major brownie points.
“Good. Glad to see he's taking good care of you” Naomi patted L's head, “Someone needs to! Ooh, maybe we could go on a double date soon?”
L frowned at Naomi, “Huh? What do you mean by double date? Are you and Misa dating now?!”
Naomi smiled slyly, “It would appear so. Sweet Misa seems to have tamed my philandering ways…”
L arched an eyebrow at that. Naomi tamed? Now that he had to see. “Well, in that case I will definitely suggest a double date to Light. For some reason he seems quite taken with you”
Naomi stuck out her tongue at L, “Everyone who had good taste likes me, L, and honestly Light has exceptional taste. Oh! That reminds me, you had a delivery when you were working, I signed for it and left it in the lounge”
L, who had been smiling down at his phone at a message from Light, looked up in surprise, “A delivery? From who?”
“I don't know, Asshat, I'm not your secretary, why don't you go and have a look?” Naomi sassed. It was nearing 8. She decided she'd had enough coffee and strolled to the kitchen to pour them a glass of wine.
“Wine?” She called over her shoulder.
L shuddered at just the thought of it. “No thanks, Nom, I'm detoxing for a bit after last night. Could you make me another coffee? I've been asked to work on the Assassin case by Interpol so i'm going to have a late night”
Naomi snickered and L rolled his eyes. Naomi didn't understand, for some unknown reason she didn't seem to get hangovers like he did.
He went to the lounge and smiled at the huge package on the sofa. Somehow he knew it was from Light before he'd even read the card. He picked up the card and his suspicions were confirmed:
L,
I hope you have a good night's sleep, you're always welcome to stay in my guest room but since you seemed to fall in love with my bedding I decided you deserved to be comfy in your own bed too.
With ever growing affection,
Light x
L let out a squeal before he could stop himself.
Naomi, ever alert, poked her head around the corner. “Holy shit did he send you Cartier bedding? Do you know how much that costs!” Naomi left the wine and coffee on the table and rushed to tear open the package, “Fuck. This… this is thousands of pounds of goose down right here, L, you've got yourself a sugar daddy!”
L's face flamed at that. He didn't see Light as a sugar daddy!
“Damn” Naomi whistled as she plucked the card from L and read it, “He's smitten, Kitten!”
L smiled at that. He did hope so… he never thought it could happen for him but he did genuinely see a future for himself and Light…
****
“And then after you kissed him you were in full control again?”
“Yes” Light leaned back in his office chair and regarded the Succubus on his laptop screen. Kiyomi Takada was currently in America with her partner, Teru Mikami, and they were Light's closest friends and confidants. He knew if anyone was to help him it would be them.
“Interesting. I do believe your theory to be correct, you can maintain control when you yourself instigate but not when L does. To me that implies your bond is still settling and L has an influence over you he doesn't understand. I do not claim to understand the bond between a human and a Demon, Light, and there aren't many of us left anymore. However, there are a few, especially here. Leave it with me and I will reach out to some of the elders that are in America. There's a Succubus in Las Vegas who is over 10,000 years old. If anyone can help it will be her”
Light hummed, he'd heard of her, the Succubus Rem. She was a fairly ancient Demon and she was known to assist younger Demons of her kind when approached respectfully. If Light had been closer to her he would have reached out himself.
“Thank you, if she does agree to help me then please pass on my details to her. I need to learn more about the bond between myself and L and how to keep him safe. Any information at all I would be extremely grateful for. I've poured over the ancient texts and there's essentially nothing written in them. If I'm to learn anything of importance about this bond and keeping L safe I believe it will be from the elders”
Kiyomi Smiled faintly, “You're lucky, Light, to have such a bond even if it is causing you trouble at the moment. I'm certain Rem and the others will think the same”
“I'm certain they will too. One day L will be the newest of our kind. I do not believe a new Incubus has been made in over 2,000 years” Light muttered, distracted at the thought of L as one of his own kind. He adored L's softness and his humanity. What would he be like as a Demon? Light suspected L would favour the night with his colouring. Perhaps L's eyes would be silver as his own favoured the sun and were gold?
“Give me a week, that will be all I need. I can reach out to them and to her and take a little trip to Vegas myself. The hunting is excellent there, Light, you and L must join us one day”
Light smiled at the thought. It wouldn't be anytime soon but it was a pleasant thought anyway.
“Perhaps. L is but 1 and 20, Kiyomi. Ideally I'd like for him to be at least 25 before he turns. That is when humans' frontal lobes finish developing. It would seem…wrong to turn him before that time”
Kiyomi smiled indulgently at her friend, “Oh you are indeed smitten for your dear human, aren't you, Light? I think it's rather sweet you are showing him such consideration where countless thousands of our kind turned teenagers to Demons in the past”
Light pulled a face at that. To him, that was abhorrent and he was glad such practices were lost to time. He felt his phone buzz against his thigh and pulled it out, smiling at the text he'd received:
Thank you *so* much for buying that bedding, Light, it must have cost you a fortune you really didn't have to!
That said, I'm annoyed that I can't go to bed early tonight. I've been assigned the Assassin case so I need to make a start on it tonight.
Are you still okay to pick me up about 11 tomorrow morning?
-L
“Oh? Lover boy” Kiyomi smirked at Light's smile, “I will leave you too it, Light, I have a nail appointment soon. I will be in touch with you as soon as I've found anything out”
“Thank you, Kiyomi, take care” Light ended the video call and returned his attention to his phone. So L was now investigating The Assassin (aka himself) that was interesting…
‘I will have to kill a little less. I was planning on doing that anyway not to overwhelm him with work but now he's officially on the case I will have to be more careful. I don't want him making a connection between meeting me and the killings suddenly dying down…L, you really are causing me quite a lot of trouble!’
Still, L was worth it. He'd cut down on the killings but wouldn't stop completely. He couldn't stop completely. Human life force was as necessary to him as coffee and sugar seemed to be for L.
Light decided the best way forward was to be cautious until he'd acquired the information he needed. If needs be, he'd have to give L a gentle nudge in another direction to distract him or mislead him from the case. Even with L's intelligence Light was quite confident in his ability to do that…
The next day, L heard the puur of Dee's Engine as Light pulled up in front of his and Naomi's flat and felt a little thrill of excitement run through him.
Finally! He got to see Light again!
He hadn't had much sleep, only four hours, but coffee and Lights company would compensate for that. It was ridiculous but he was feeling a physical ache when they were apart. Perhaps there was something to those tacky love songs after all about the heart hurting when you missed someone?
Naomi was at work so that left L blissfully free from wolf whistles and teasing as he locked up and went out to greet Light. Of course, Light, being the perfect gentleman that he was, had already climbed out of the car to open the passenger side door for him.
“Hi, Light” L smiled, Wondering if he should go in for a kiss or not.
L didn't know it but Light had sent him a subtle prompt to wait for Light to kiss him and to not initiate contact. He was a little confused by it but readily accepted the logic of it. Light knew what he was doing and he didn't so it made sense.
L waited patiently as Light pulled him into his arms and pressed a light kiss to his cheek.
“Morning, L, I've missed you”
L barely repressed a shiver at that murmer so close to his ear, “I-i've missed you too, Light” he cleared his throat, “Thank you for coming with me to the Doctors. I'm probably in for a row. I haven't been for a checkup since I was ... .well…10, I think?”
Light fondly rolled his eyes and stepped back from the embrace, “I take it you never really get sick then?”
L shook his head and climbed into the car. He was used to Dee and her warmed seats and opulence by now but he couldn't help but admire her sleek interior again. He wasn't really into cars but he could see why Light was. Dee was gorgeous.
“Ah, no, not really” L finally answered as Light settled beside him in the driver's seat, “Do you?”
Light smiled faintly, “No, I don't get sick easily”
‘Or at all, really…’
“Huh, guess it's cos we're young or maybe just lucky” L shrugged, missing the sly tint to Light's smile as Light thought about his actual age.
“Maybe” Light pulled off and indicated the glove box, “There's protein bars in there, make sure you eat one. Knowing you you've probably had a donut and coffee for breakfast”
L flushed guilty and helped himself to a protein bar. Light appeared to know him rather well. He was surprised that it made him feel relieved and happy. Before he would have been wary of such a thing, of having someone know too much about him, but with Light it felt natural.
“Okay, you got me there” L admitted, “How's your writing going? Killed that Bastard off yet?”
Light chuckled, “Maybe. You will just have to wait and see”
L munched on the protein bar and shot a message to Naomi confirming that yes, he was going to the Doctors.
They soon arrived and L couldn't help but feel a bit irritated as he walked through the door and signed himself in at reception. He hated places like this, clinical, sterile white walled palaces of prodding and examinations. Would it kill them to put a plant in the waiting room?
Luckily, L didn't have to wait long. Light gave him a little mental nudge and L sighed against as he followed The Ancient Dr into her office, doing his best to not let his distaste show on his face. He'd hoped she'd retired (or died) by now, but apparently not.
He had a set of bloods taken, answered questions about his health and diet (naturally, the Dr was appalled and he didn't care) and had his weight, height and vital signs recorded.
“Mr Lawliet, you are underweight”
L nodded. He knew that.
“I also suspect you are anaemic and that the blood results will confirm this. Even if you are not you need to change your diet immediately to avoid long term damage to your health in the future”
L nodded again. He'd try but he wasn't making any promises, besides, her advice meant nothing to him.
“And, Mr Lawliet, according to your medical records the last time you were seen at this clinic was nearly 11 years ago…Ah…” a glint of understanding lit her eyes. She remembered who he was.
L tilted his head and graced the doctor with a cold stare, ”I wonder why that was, Doc?” He asked snidely.
“Why didn't you come back for your vaccinations at the very least?” The Dr had the grace to flush faintly, sensing his anger at her considering what had happened in the past. It was still something she thought about now and again. An oversight she had learnt from…
“...Can I go now?” L asked, already climbing to his feet, “I'm only here because my…my boyfriend wanted me to come here. I won't be back again”
The Dr, a wizened old woman, immediately shot L a look, great full, apparently, for the change of topic, “Oh? And are you practising safe sex young man? If you like we could discuss-”
Face burning, L bolted from the room. No. He was not going there with that old Dragon!
He wasn't surprised when L all but bolted back into the waiting room with an abrupt, “We can go now, Light”
Light obediently followed after L as L headed towards the car. He could sense L’s emotions and they were jumbled up wildly…
“I need to eat better” L summarised once they were driving to a nearby restaurant, “I'm underweight and apparently that old bitch believes I need to practise safe sex”
Light raised an eyebrow, “Well, all of that is solid, medical advice, Darling” Light said, however he sensed there was something else going on. Something else that was making L uncomfortable. “I'm glad you went, L, even if you don't like going or the Doctor very much. Perhaps it would help if you changed surgeries?” he added, wishing L would open up and tell him why he seemed so upset. He tightened his hands on the steering wheel and willed himself not to make L open up or read his mind.
L sank lower into his seat and stared moodily out at the traffic for a few moments before he flicked his eyes to Light, “The last time I went to a doctor was when I was 10 and it was her . That woman told my mother her headaches were just stress and that she needed to calm down and stop working so much. My mother was a genealogist, Light, the best in her field… It wasn't just headaches. She died of a brain aneurysm Just 2 months Later. That's why I hate doctors. I don't trust them. I just… miss my mother, sometimes”
Light felt his heart ache for his human and really wished he wasn't driving so he could hug him. He reached out and carefully placed his hand on L’s knee, just holding it to show his affection.
“I'm so sorry, L, no wonder you dislike going to Doctors so much. I'm sorry if you felt forced-”
L shook his head, grateful for the warm weight of Light’s hand on him, “No, I didn't, and I did need to go but…well, I had hoped she'd be dead to be honest” L admitted with a rueful smile, “She was pretty certain I am anaemic so I think it's best I register with another surgery”
Light’s eyes flashed gold as he concentrated on the road. L wanted her dead, did he? That wouldn't be an issue…
“Why don't you register with the surgery near my home?” Light said, “I know one of the GP’s so I could probably get the process sped up for you. If you are anaemic you could be treated there”
'Plus, until I turn you you will need to have a Doctors surgery you're comfortable with. It makes sense to use the one near my home. All going well soon we will be living together anyway'
L smiled in delighted surprise, “Yes, that's a good idea. Plus…if it's alright with you I'd rather go with you to appointments anyway”
Light smiled in happiness. That wasn't his allure or the bond between them, that was a genuine show of L’s trust and faith in him.
“That's more than alright, L” he squeezed L's knee and returned his hand to the wheel, “Now, where am I taking you for Dinner? You deserve to be spoiled”
L flushed as he remembered Naomi's snickering he'd found himself a sugar daddy, “I, Uh, I can pay you don't need to-”
Light gave L a sultry smile that made the human gulp and try not to squirm in his seat.
“Oh, I know, L, but I want to”
Chapter 6
Summary:
Uh...
Smut?
Chapter Text
It was a mid October afternoon and outside a storm was brewing. Light and L had been dating for two months and this weekend L was staying at Light's place.
It was a test of Light's resolve and control, but one he felt ready for. Light was laying on his sofa, one arm draped over his eyes and one arm curled around L as he thought about what Rem had told him.
L lawliet is your bondmate, Light, and will become the newest Incubus our species will have welcomed in thousands of years and yet… I can sense his transition will not be an easy one for you. It will be a time of trial and a test to you but I know you will triumph.
You ask me how to control yourself around your human when really what you need to do is discover that for yourself, for that ability lies within you . You must master your fear and use your abilities to protect and serve L, not shy away from using them.
L Lawliet will become an incubus. That is his fate. For now, you must trust in that and master your own abilities. You come from an ancient line. I will be happy to assist you in this…
Light smiled faintly. He'd been skyping with Rem and he did feel more in control of his emotions. Thanks to her guidance he realised sometimes it was necessary to access L's thoughts or mind and it wasn't a betrayal of him if he was doing it to keep him safe. His own protectiveness of L's privacy was actually hindering him at times and making things worse. Rem had shown him it was crucial he used his gifts and abilities to keep L safe until he reached the age Light wanted to turn him (25) and so that was what he was determined to do.
One day, Rem had reassured him, L would understand.
And until then, he would take each day as it came and work towards that glorious moment when L would be reborn as his immortal mate. He would enjoy the time together he had with L when he was a sweet, fragile, lovely human.
“Light?”
Light smiled, shifting his gaze to L. He hadn't moved or disturbed L's sleep, but Light sensed L's confusion through their bond which meant L was waking up.
“What's the matter, Sweetheart?” He cooed, using his arm around L's side to tug him a little closer.
“I… it's nothing” L averted his gaze and stared at the fire, “I just thought I was at home for a moment and was disoriented when I woke up. It's strange, spending the weekend with you but amazing too”
Light smiled at the admission. He supposed it was strange for someone like L to be this close to someone, save Naomi (of course)
“If you're feeling overwhelmed-”
L closed his eyes again and pressed into Light, “No, no. God, you are so warm . So nice…”
Light chuckled at that. His blood ran a lot hotter than a humans and L seemed to enjoy the warmth radiating from his skin, basking against him like a lizard.
“Comfy?” Light teased, feeling the waves of affection pouring off the human and basking in their warmth.
“Mmm. I'm glad I took the weekend off. Needed it” L slurred sleepily into his chest, “Ripper's gone quiet too. Maybe he needed a break as well”
Light snorted softly at that. If only his sweet L knew…
“Perhaps”
Light was content to let L drowse against him for another ten minutes or so before he gave him a little nudge. It was getting late and he could sense L was getting hungry. That wouldn't do! It was his job to feed and protect his mate.
“Mm?”
“Dinner, Baby, I can hear your belly beginning to rumble” Light muttered, dropping a kiss to L's cheek. In truth, he was starving too…
Once L had eaten he'd see to sourcing his own food later. There were a couple of backpackers renting a room downtown. They wouldn't be missed…
L sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He was a bit hungry and Light had promised to make him Beef Goulash (whatever that was)
L tried his best to be helpful in the kitchen but in the end Light had kindly (but pointedly) steered him into the lounge to lay the table and pour some wine. L couldn't blame him, He'd nearly chopped a finger off cutting some mushrooms…
When the food was ready L was hit by a scent so delicious it very nearly made his mouth water. He couldn't wait to tell Naomi. Light was just so kind . He cooked for him and sent him gifts all the time. L had embarrassingly informed Light (After Light had bought him a top of the range phone L had stared at for a millisecond longer than usual out shopping one day) that Naomi had called Light his sugar daddy and rather than be offended Light had burst out laughing and assured L hed be spoiling him even more now he had a reputation to uphold.
L had… got used to it. He realised this was part of Light's love language and how he expressed himself. He wasn't sure what his own was, only that he felt particularly clingy and wanted to see, speak or be with Light constantly.
“It has vegetables in it but I promise you won't taste them,” Light teased, placing L's dish before him and dropping a little kiss to the crown of his head before taking his own place next to him.
L shivered, feeling heat coil in his belly. They'd been dating a few months now and they hadn't gone further than a few (heated )kisses… but…maybe tonight? He felt ready and Light was just so perfect and kind and thoughtful…
“Oh my god, this is amazing ” L moaned around a mouthful of goulash, “You should be a chef!” he gushed, swiftly setting about devouring his food.
Light felt a flare of pride at providing for his mate. Human food didn't do anything for him but seeing L enjoying eating protein and veggies (and not pure sugar) made the Demon inside him purr in contentment. The bond between them seemed to crackle with energy and Light smiled happily. Things were going wonderfully.
“Light, you are so amazing” L sighed once he'd finished his meal. He was flushed with happiness, “I can't believe you're mine, sometimes, you know. I know I say that a lot but it's true”
‘God I hope I don't chicken out and we can move past kissing tonight. I want to do more with him. He's so damn sexy’ L thought, his face on fire as he admired the way Light's hair seemed to gleam red and gold as the light shifted and fell upon it. Honestly, it should be illegal to be as attractive as Light Yagami, L thought, but God was he greatful he was his .
Light smiled demurely, his senses reeling as he picked up on L's growing need for him. He was prepared and if L was ready for intimacy then so was he. Perhaps he'd even feed from L a little before he went hunting for his actual meal. Rem's training was forefront in his mind and he felt, for the first time meeting L, completely confident. He take some of L's energy without endangering him and it would only serve to strengthen their bond anyway so win win, right?
“Well, I am. And you, my dear L, are mine” Light raised a glass and L giggled cutely as they toasted together.
Light had a singular glass of wine with his meal, more interested in the flush on L's face and the thickening sexual tension between them than anything else.
The tension grew over dessert (a decadent toffee and chocolate cheesecake Light had made from scratch solely for L) and as the storm began to rage outside.
L complimented Light's cooking and his generosity, and Light returned the favour by complimenting L on his sweetness and the way his grey eyes seemed to shimmer silver when he was happy.
The last month had been a challenge for him but finally Light felt they were turning a corner. His slow and steady seduction was bearing fruit and oh how lovely L looked smiling and laughing at his jokes…
They finished dessert and Light smiled as a fork of lightning illuminated the sky and thunder crashed. He adored stormy weather. L, however, didn't appear to like it as much. He pressed close to Light and sought out his lips for a kiss.
Light sent a wave of reassurance and smiled into the kiss as he picked up on L's shy musings of if they could go a little further than kissing this time? L appeared to be holding back, looking at him expectantly.
‘Mm that suggestion for him to wait for me to take the lead worked beautifully’ Light thought, closing the gap between them and kissing L again, but a little harder this time. L sighed into the kiss, his hands twinning in Light's hair as Light walked them back from the dining table to the sofa.
They tumbled down, mouths feasting upon one another's as Light settled himself on top of L.
He sensed no nervousness from his mate at all, just a ravenous, intoxicating hunger that called to his own.
“Light” L whispered when Light pulled away to gaze down at him consideringly. Light could sense L wasn't ready for full sex yet and that was fine. He had something else in mind that would satisfy the both of them…
“It's okay” Light soothed, pressing his lips against the fragile, skittering pulse point in L's neck, “I know you aren't ready for everything yet” he whispered against L's skin, “I won't push you, Darling. I want to cherish you”
L made a strangled noise and grabbed Light to him, moaning as he kissed him passionately. It was sloppy and perhaps a little unrefined but Light thought it was easily the hottest, sweetest kiss he'd ever had in his many years of immortal existence.
They moved from kissing to all out necking, their bodies rubbing together and groans flowing back and forth between clashing teeth and tongues as Light rolled his hips and pressed his erection against his Darling humans own.
“Light… fuck” L whined, his body shuddering with each roll of Light's hips against his own, “Feels so good” he gasped, digging his nails into Light's biceps and clinging on for dear life. He felt embarrassingly close already.
Light backed off, just a little, and pressed a soft kiss to L’s cheek, “Doing okay?”
L answered by nodding, his nails digging in deeper in response to a slow roll of Light’s hips, “Light can we… fuck, can we do this without our clothes on?”
Light’s eyes gleamed a molten amber and he hastily ducked his head to hide them, sucking at the sweet skin of L’s throat. “Mmm, I think that would be good” Light rasped, already easing off his slacks and hands darting to divest L of his jeans.
L lifted his hips in help, eyes locked on Light's face. He was breathless with excitement and there was this fire racing through him. He'd never felt like this before.
Light tugged off L's jeans, dropping a kiss to his ankle before hovering over him again. He toyed with the waistband of L's boxers, a question burning in his eyes and a sinful smile on his lips.
It had never felt like this with a human before. But then, L was his human.
L answered by lifting his hips again, eyes cloudy with lust but beautifully wide and trusting too. Light smiled, letting just a touch of his allure out to enhance L's pleasure. L deserved it, he was being so sweet and brave, giving himself like this. Light knew it wasn't something L gave up lightly, this control over his body. He would cherish this gift.
Light let out a little more of his allure watching L's face as he did. L responded almost immediately, the grey in his eyes burning to black as his pupils dilated.
“Please, Light, Please-” L gasped, pulling at him and moaning as he felt the older man's still clothed erection press against his quivering belly. Whatever inhibitions L still had were gone in an instant and L felt desperate to get at Light, mouth searching for his and hands tugging at him to get him closer.
Light groaned into the slopey, desperate kiss and rocked their hips together. He drank up every single moan and whine L made, his breath coming in sharp pants between their hot kisses.
‘Shit, he's that responsive to just a tiny amount of allure?’ Light thought, mentally going over Rem's lessons to keep himself in check. It worked, he felt fully in control as broke the kiss and wrapped his fingers around L's straining cock. He pumped the smooth flesh, lust burning through him at the way L's hips bucked in response.
L made a whimper that went straight to Light's cock and he ground himself against L, feeling a desperation he'd never felt before. Fuck he wanted to swallow L's come! He needed it! The energy radiating from the human was maddening, the scent of his arousal and the feeling of his body writhing beneath his was threatening to shatter his control.
‘Oh God, oh god’ L felt precome oozing out of him, making the slide between them even easier. He was so close!
Emboldened, L grabbed at Light's flexing ass and tugged his boxers down, groaning as he felt that huge cock bounce up and slap against his belly. Fuck, he wanted it so bad. L curled his fingers, pulling at Light's ass to get the older man to grind against him faster.
“Please! Light, fuck, I'm so close” L babbled, feeling the tight coil of orgasm simmer in his belly with each drag of their cocks. He had no idea what he was even asking for, he just knew if he didn't come soon he would go insane.
Light's nostrils flared. He could smell how close L was and he had to have that life force in him.
“L, Baby, can I suck you, can I make you feel good?” Light panted against L’s lips, almost as feverish in his desire as L was. L nodded his head, not trusting himself to speak and feeling overwhelmed by sheer lust. He honestly didn't care what Light did as long as he did something .
Light gave L a quick grin and scooted down his body, lips trailing down L’s heaving chest and drinking in the taste of sweat and those addicting, tantalising pheromones.
Light lapped at L’s nipples, making L moan his name in rapture before he took the stiff peak into his mouth and sucked on it. L made another desperate whine and Light smiled against his skin. He'd get his food soon, L was actively trying to stop himself from coming with each wet lap of his tongue.
“Light” L tugged at Light's hair desperately, his voice cracking, “Stop or i'll-”
Light pulled away and gave L a sinful smile, “You can come, L, So don't hold back. I'll make you come over and over again and over again… ”
L whimpered. Why was that so fucking hot? It didn't even seem like a boast either. He knew Light was more than capable of it.
Light wanted to glut himself on his human's seed. L was young and healthy so he knew his refractory period would be short and he fully intended on making it shorter still with a little bit of Demon magic.
Light dropped sucking kisses over L's belly before settling himself between his legs and preparing to feast. L tossed his head as he felt Light grip the base of his cock and then he couldn't think anything at all. Light was lapping at his weeping slit and that did it. He cried out harshly, his body engulfed in an inferno of pleasure as Light quickly drew the tip of his cock into his mouth to receive his come.
Light moaned In ecstasy as he swallowed down each spurt. Oh it was heavenly. He'd never tasted anything like it and he felt invigorated with each swallow. How was he supposed to be content with feeding off other humans when he'd experienced this rapture? L was panting and gasping beneath him, hips twitching as he fully spent himself.
‘I need more’ Light thought, eyes bright amber as he scraped along the sensitive head of L's dick with His teeth. The cock in his mouth twitched and L made a shaky moan, hips skittering.
Light knew he was a bit over sensitive but he could get rid of that issue. He pressed his hand flat to L's belly and sucked him down hard to the hilt, groaning in pleasure at how nice L felt in his mouth.
L was crying out above him, clutching at his hair in desperation. L didn't understand it, he'd literally just come and had felt sensitive but now suddenly he was fucking up into Light's mouth with a desperation he'd never felt before. It was like he hadn't even come. He felt his balls throb and dimly wondered if Light had some sort of magic or something because this was insane.
Light bobbed his head, expertly bringing L to the brink of another blistering orgasm with tongue and suction. He purred around his mouthful, mouth locked around L as he hinted at the human to fuck his mouth hard.
“Light! Fuck!” L cried, hips snapping as he fucked up into Light's mouth, “I can't-”
‘Come on, L, give me more’ Light hummed and L let out a shriek, his body
flexing as more precome dribbled from him.
It was an appetiser, one Light enjoyed immensely, and he pulled back and let the throbbing cock slip from his mouth with a wet pop as he felt his control begin to crack.
He repeated the mantra of Rem's words in his mind, drawing strength from them as well as his own mastery over himself. He was strong enough. He wouldn't be afraid. He wouldn't consume the mortal, his Darling L. The bond between them was buzzing with life, reacting to this new intimacy between them and strengthening.
L sat up on his elbows, staring down at Light with black, lust-blown eyes in confusion. Why had Light stopped?
Light smiled and lapped at the slit, eyelids flickering closed in pleasure as L grit his teeth at the sensual onslaught.
“Light” L pleaded, “Please, I need to… I need to come”
Light chuckled darkly, pressing a kiss to L’s hip, “I know you do, Darling, forgive me I was just taking a second to admire you”
‘And collect my thoughts before I go insane!’
“Is… is this okay?” L squeaked out, his face burning red, “Should we stop?” He had been thrusting pretty hard into Light’s mouth. What if he'd hurt him? He didn't want to do that!
Light softened at that hesitant question and L's sweet and utterly baseless worries.
“Oh yes, it's okay” Light purred, nuzzling against L's thigh with his nose, “More than okay. I just had to take a second, L, you're so gorgeous and responsive”
L flushed, instantly reassured that he hadn't done anything wrong. He slumped back against the sofa as Light drew him back into his mouth and suckled at him. It was slower this time and L squirmed as his arousal spiked sharply.
‘I never realised it could… oh god’ L's thoughts splintered and he panted out Light's name as he succumbed to ecstacy. It had been amazing before but this was something else entirely. He toyed with strands of Light's hair, twining it around his fingers.
‘Ahhh so he prefers gentle head. Good to know’ Light kept his movements soft and slow, gulping down the precome his movements elicited.
“Light” L's hips arched and his body seized abruptly, and Light moaned out his pleasure at being able to swallow more spurts of his Darling human's life essence. L's cries of pleasure was a nice backdrop to his own and Light was content to lounge between L's legs and hold him in his mouth until he sensed L was becoming overstimulated.
He pulled away and worked his way back up L's body until he gazed down at him. Their stares met and held for a moment before L reached up to press his lips to Light's.
Light smiled into the sleepy kiss, sensing L was fighting against the urge to rest after such exertion.
“Can I…” L shyly reached for Light's hardness and cupped it gently, “Can I do the same for you?” L whispered, “Please?”
Light blinked in surprise. Most of the time Humans were already asleep (or dead ) by this stage so, even with L, he wasn't expecting to receive any physical gratification himself.
“I…uh, okay” Light was surprised when L tugged him down and rolled on top of him. He could still sense L's fatigue but it was waning in place of L's desire to pleasure him in turn. Light was struck by how selfless L was, pushing aside his own needs to focus on Light's. It was another thing he wasn't used to.
Light lounged back, already feeling satisfied and sated just by feeding from L, and hummed in appreciation as L copied what he had done, trailing his lips down his belly in a shy yet promising tease.
“I'm sorry if I'm not very good at this” L muttered with a rasp to his voice, “But I'll try my best”
Light felt his heart clench at how fucking cute that was and he was about to pull L up so he could kiss him when L curled his fingers around his cock and stroked it.
“Shit…” Light's head hit the sofa with a soft whack. It had been entirely too long since he'd let a human do this to him (read: lain with a human he trusted enough to do this to him) and he let out a shaky gasp of pleasure, one hand drifting down to cup the back of L's head as L slowly and rather hesitantly took him into his mouth.
Light fought back the urge to slam inside that spectacular, wet heat and curled the fingers of his spare hand into the leather of the sofa. He would take this at L's pace. This was important for L.
For his part, L was feeling quite empowered at having Light's cock in his mouth and he moaned around the shaft resting on his tongue, testing out the taste and feel of it. He'd never dreamed about doing this with someone else but with Light it felt entirely natural. He was exhausted and yet determined to repay Light for the exquisite pleasure he'd lavished upon him. He hummed and his eyes lit up at the choked curse Light gasped out.
‘Vibrations, huh? Makes sense’ L thought, a wicked plan shaping in his mind. He moaned around Light's cock and bobbed his head, doing his best not to gag. He could only take half of it in his mouth (clearly he needed more practice) but he figured he was doing a good job by Light's gasps and fingers spasming in his hair. He kept up the moaning, drool running down his chin as he focused on making Light feel as good as he'd made him.
“So good. You're so perfect, L” Light sighed, hips raising lazily as he fucked into that sweet mouth. L made an approving hum, daring to take a little more of that large cock inside his mouth. He gagged, eyes widening in surprise and backed off a little.
“D-don't push yourself” Light panted out, eyelids flickering as he soaked up his humans feelings, “You're doing so well, Love”
‘Love?’ L felt tears sting his eyes and he blinked them away. Was it just something Light was saying in the heat of the moment or did he mean it? Because L was pretty certain he'd fallen head over heels for Light…
Light felt that love and the power of it completely undone him. He managed to gasp out a warning and felt pleasure zip up his spine, his balls tighten and throb in impending release. L bobbed his head faster in response, obviously picking up Light was close, and Light's world whited out for one bright moment as he threw his head back and came with a loud groan. He couldn't really remember the last time he'd orgasamed but damn had he missed it!
L swallowed as much of Light's come as he could but some trickled out of his mouth and down his chin. He felt a flare of pride rush through him that he had made Light come. He'd made him feel good. He wasn't a fuck up all the time!
“Jesus” Light panted softly, his head spinning from how intense that had been, “L, c'mere” he moaned, feeling pretty much wrecked. He was the one used to seduction and giving pleasure so experiencing this made him feel oddly vulnerable and emotional.
L released him from his mouth and wormed his way back up Light's body, his eyes shining with happiness.
Light laughed softly, endeared and a little aroused by the sight of his come dribbling messily down L's chin. He wiped it away, smiling at L warmly.
“I love you, L” Light murmured, gently caressing L's cheek, “I love you so much”
L felt like his heart was about to burst. He flung his arms around Light and buried his face into his neck.
“I love you too, Light”

Chapter Text
L frowned at the brown-haired young man lying on the autopsy table. Another youth dead with absolutely no underlying health issues. This one, a Matthew Evarai, had been found slumped on a park bench. People had walked past assuming the boy was a drunk. Until flies had begun landing on him and he'd started to smell, anyway…
The kill count was 23 now. Not a massive number by no means but enough for L to take note. This case was personal now. He wanted to understand just how the Ripper was killing these people without leaving a single trace. No struggle, no DNA, no underlying health issues, no footprints at the scene, no CCTV…
It was maddening !
L just wanted to understand. Even if he never caught the Ripper he could live with it (even if the Ripper's poor victims didn’t ) What he couldn't live with was not knowing how he was getting away with murder and how he was killing in the first place. L despised not having the answers and this particular mystery was becoming all consuming.
L sighed in frustration and set up a drain. He doubted he'd find anything in the blood but he'd check it anyway, just as he'd done with the last two. L found himself missing Light intensely.
Light was out of town for a few weeks, apparently in a conference in Las Vegas, and the separation between them left L feeling nauseous and physically weak and aching. He'd told Naomi he hadn't felt well since Light had left and she'd declared he had ‘love sickness’
L assumed it was probably true because he was finding it difficult to eat or sleep without Light's calming, steadying presence. They'd been dating for 4 months now and L was utterly smitten by Light Yagami. He couldn't imagine his life without him which was a bizarre thing to admit when he'd believed he was so happy being alone before that fateful night at the club where Light had saved his life.
L left the body to drain on the table and went into the small kitchenette. He fixed himself a cup of coffee and sent a message to Light telling him he missed him (the usual, really) and that he really was counting down the days until Light was home. There were just 3 days left.
L clutched his belly as a dull, shooting ache shot through him. He'd never felt so sick before. He was even considering going to the Doctors with Naomi…
L had no idea what he was actually suffering from was the bond between himself and an Incubus manifesting its displeasure at them being separated…
****
Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, Light was equally on edge. He hated being apart from L but this trip had been necessary. He'd been summoned by Rem herself and the elders of their community. Everyone was excited at the prospect of a new Incubus joining their fold and Light had told everyone proudly about how his bond with L was growing daily.
Rem quizzed him on his control, his reactions to L and his increasing need to drain human life as the bond between himself and L demanded more energy. Light knew he had to be careful, his increased killing was giving L more work to do and was keeping him up at night as he worked on the Ripper case.
Of course he felt guilty about it but he couldn't stop. He was using a massive amount of energy each day to support the bond between himself and L and to control his own reactions to his Darling Human and for that others had to pay the price. He was starving all the time and even though he regularly imbued L's lifeforce when they were intimate (Light made sure to go down on L as often as possible to get his fix) it wasn't enough.
“He's probably suffering,” Takada noted, adjusting her sunglasses as she lounged by the poolside looking like a screen icon and attracting admiring glances from the waiters bustling back and forth with trays of drinks.
“He is. That's why I plan on heading back tomorrow. He's not eating and sleeping properly. I'd hoped he'd be okay for a few weeks but I can feel the pain and it's getting worse” Light pushed away his own drink, unable to stomach the thought of it as he felt a residual flare of dulled pain flicker through their bond, “He needs me, Kiyomi, and I need him. I've done my duty and informed the elders about him and he is to be welcomed in the fold in 4 years time. I've done what I can to prepare myself for when we become fully intimate. It will have to be enough”
Takada let out a thoughtful ‘hmm’ and took a sip of her martini, “Just be careful with the killings, Light, even I can pick up on your sweet human stress. Maybe what is needed is a bit of distraction. Take him away from Tokyo for a while, woo him, distract him from his work for his own benefit”
Light smiled at the thought. Wooing L was fast becoming his favourite thing to do and it would be nice if they went away together. With just a smidge of allure and persuasion he was certain he could distract L from his unsolvable case and make him feel better.
“That's a good idea” Light nodded, “And it's something he needs after these few weeks apart. I'm going to head back to the hotel to pack, I'm planning on getting the early morning flight tomorrow so I can surprise him after work”
Takada smiled at her friend and reached for her purse, pulling out a small necklace with a silver crescent moon pendant, “Here, give this to your human. It's a gift from myself, Mikami and Rem. It's an amulet that promotes inner peace and healing. I thought it was a quack gimmick at first but Rem told me they were once used by Incubi and Succubi and gifted to their mortals to aid in their transition so we tracked one down and Rem worked on it for you. This one is very, very old so it will be powerful. It will help L greatly, I'm certain of it. Tell me him to always wear it”
Light curled his fingers around the necklace, already imagining how lovely it would look around L’s pale throat, “Thank you so much…” he knew what he was holding in his hands was practically priceless and the fact that Rem had sourced it for him (and even imbibed it with her own power) was humbling.
“You're welcome, Light” Takada smiled at her friend, pleased that had been blessed in such a way to have a human mate, it gave them all hope for the future. Maybe one day their race would be secure again and would flourish like it used to.
L Lawliet could, just maybe, be the Incubus that would herald the dawn of a new era for them…
*****
L thumped his head on his desk and took a moment to just grumble into the wood. Fuck everything. He was tired. Tired of endless ‘inconclusive’ results, tired of stomach cramps, tired of headaches, tired of the fluorescent lights of the mortuary and tired of the old janitor making eyes at him (because dear God Was that more loathsome than the corpses scattered around the room)
He massaged his temples and wondered why Light hadn't replied to him in 6 hours. It made his heart hurt and he let out a small whine. Maybe Light had gone off him? He wouldn't blame him. They'd been dating 4 months now and they'd not actually had sex yet. Light was a patient guy but with his looks, charm and personality he could literally have whoever he wanted.
Yes, L decided, that had to be it. Light had met someone else, was probably fucking them two ways from Tuesday, and was having such an amazing time in Las Vegas he'd not even entered his mind.
The thought did nothing for his headache. Deciding to call it a day, even though it was still relatively early at 4 pm, L slowly lifted his head and stared at the man on the autopsy table. He'd found nothing and the allotted time had passed. He'd have to be handed over to the techs to be cleaned and then given over to his family.
Another loose end and a total waste of his time.
L slowly climbed to his feet, his back aching as if he was 80, and stretched. He sighed in relief as his back popped. It was ridiculous, he was 21 and felt like a grandad! Since he didn't have Light around and Naomi was staying at Misa's L decided he might as well grab some ice cream on the way home and slob out on the couch.
He pulled on his coat, grabbed his bag and keys and was about to leave when the phone began to ring.
“Oh fuck off ” L growled, marching over to it and yanking it from the wall, “What?” He barked into it, so done he really didn't care who was on the other end.
“Well, isn't my poor boy sounding a little testy this evening…” came the amused purr from the other end.
L's entire mood shifted in an instant and he lit up, a smile replacing his scowl instantly, “Light! It's so good to hear from you! Why are you ringing my work line though-”
“Because I'm here to pick you up” Light said, his smile evident in his voice, “Poor darling, you sound so stressed. Come on, I will stay at yours tonight and pamper you mercilessly. Meet me outside in 5 minutes”
L didn't need telling twice! He hung up and blurted out an order for the techs to clean and release the body and scanned himself out of the morgue at the speed of light. By the time he'd gotten outside and saw the familiar sight of Dee waiting for him he felt like crying.
“Light!” L cried, the relief he felt almost bringing him to his knees as he ran to Light. Later, he'd call himself an emotional wreck, but in the moment he couldn't care less and burst into tears as Light hurried to meet him to wrap him in his arms.
“Oh, L, I've missed you too” Light crooned, his heart aching at the way L was sobbing into his chest, “It's alright, I'm here now and I won't be going away from you again”
L sobbed harder at that, his fingers clutching at Light in desperation. It was amazing, his headache was fading and the pain in his belly was easing gradually too. Maybe he really was love sick! By the time he eventually got himself together and pulled away from Light, L felt wrung out, exhausted but way better than he had for the last 13 days.
“It's okay” Light soothed, feeling a wave of guilt at how red L's eyes were and how tired he was, “it's okay, I've got you now and I'm home”
L nodded, smiling and reaching to cup Light's cheek, “Words really can't express how much I've missed you, Light. I've felt so unwell without you”
‘Our bond is going to be so strong if he's affected like this already. I've got to make this up to him’ Light thought, leaning down to brush his lips sweetly against L's, “Let's get you something nice to eat and then you can rest. You seem so tired. Let me spoil you”
L sighed as Light led them over to Dee. Being spoilt by Light sounded heavenly after the day he had. “Can we get ice cream on the way home?”
Light smiled, already anticipating L would want something sweet, “Yes, and your favourite takeout and wine” Light opened L's door for him, “You can have a doze in the car while I go get them”
L raised an eyebrow, “What about you? What time did your plane land?”
Light walked around to the drivers side and climbed in and gave L a reassuring, devastating smile, “An hour ago. But don't worry, I'm not tired at all…”
L laughed and shook his head. Light was honestly inhuman. Getting off a flight without the barest hint of jetlag!
By the time Light had pulled up at the supermarket L was already snoring in the passenger seat, his head pressed against the glass and his breath misting up the window. Careful not to wake him, Light shrugged off his jumper and rolled it into a ball to make a makeshift pillow. L grumbled as he was pulled from the window but settled back with his head cushioned against the jumper.
“I won't be long” Light pressed a soft kiss to L’so messy hair, “Rest well”
Light was in and out within 30 minutes. He'd ordered L's favourite takeaway and bought him wine, chocolates, flowers and, on a whim, a sinfully soft cushion he would keep in the car for when L fell asleep against the window.
Light was buzzing with excitement by the time he finally pulled up outside L's apartment. The absence had been hard for him too and his blood was singing at being L's presence again. He'd recently fed and was feeling energised but he was still hungry to fill up on L's presence. 13 days without him had felt longer than the centuries he'd walked the earth.
“L?” Light gently rocked L's shoulder to rouse him, “We've arrived”
L yawned and sat up, blinking the sleep from his eyes. He felt much better after the nap. One glance at the time on the dash informed him Light must have taken the long way home to give him more time to sleep.
Of course he had, Light was thoughtful like that.
L found himself admiring Light’s lean muscles in his arms and the way they flexed as he picked up the shopping bags and felt the, now, familiar stirring of lust coil in his belly. Light had been so patient, not pushing him and waiting until he was ready to lose his virginity and L knew he was ready.
Their separation had cemented it for him. He wanted to sleep with Light.
Light cursed, nearly dropping the bag as L's thoughts flitted across the bond and made his blood go from a simmer to an all out boil .
‘Fuck, fuck, I'm going to sleep with him. Shit’ Light tried to calm his racing thoughts and brushed the hair out of his eyes. It was fine. Everything was fine. He'd make sure L had a good dinner, run him a bath, give him the amulet and then…
“Uh…Light?” L frowned at Light, tugging at his sleeve to get his attention, “Are you okay?”
Light blinked and gave L a reassuring smile.
“Sorry, Love, forgive me. I just had this idea for my book and I got lost in it for a second” Light shook his head as if to clear it, “Let's get you inside, huh?”
L let them into the apartment and flicked on the lights. It was looking spotlessly clean and he knew that meant Misa had been over recently. When it was just him and Naomi it certainly didn't look that clean but then he'd been practically living at work so maybe he was the messy one?
“That's sweet,” Light pointed to a photo of L and Naomi on the side cabinet. It had been taken during a trip to a winter wonderland the previous year and both of them were red faced with cold and had snow in their dark hair, “New?”
“Yeah” L smiled fondly at the photo, “Before you, Light, Naomi was the only real friend I had. I found that photo stashed in a drawer and decided to put it up”
“It's lovely. And who is this?” Light asked, even though he could see the name ‘Misa Amane’ hovering above the girl's head in the other photo frame. Misa was a petite, blonde girl and in the photo she was hugging Naomi.
“That's Misa, Naomi's girlfriend” L said as he wandered into the kitchen, “Do you want any wine, Light?”
‘One won't hurt’ Light thought before walking into the kitchen, “Sure. But you are going to sit down and put your feet up. I will pour the wine”
L flushed, wondering if this chivalry of Light's was ever going to end (and praying it didn't)
“Light, I think I might go up and have a shower” L said suddenly, the blush on his face growing as he thought why he wanted a shower, “Maybe Leave the bath until tomorrow? I… I was hoping maybe we could…” L trailed off, not sure how to say ‘have sex’ without sounding like an utter idiot and hoping Light would pick up the hint, “I mean, only if you want to but I really do…”
The tension was thick and heavy in the room and Light swallowed hard.
“Alright, Love” he breathed, his mind torturing him with images of L naked in the shower preparing himself for him, “Don't be long though, our food will be here soon” he tried to diffuse the tension, even though he was still reeling.
“I won't be” L promised, his stomach fluttering with nerves and excitement. He went upstairs, heart pounding as he thought about the night to come.
Would it hurt? Perhaps. Would it feel good? Absolutely, L was certain of that. Light was gorgeous and kind and so very skilled with his tongue…
“Oh my god” L whispered to himself, his face bright red as he tried to calm down and get the shower over and done with. He just wanted to be with Light and even knowing he was downstairs was making his stomach squirm around. He scrubbed himself making sure he was as clean as possible inside and out and chucked on a pair of the soft flannel pyjamas Light had bought him. Hardly an outfit of seduction but if things went to plan he wouldn't be wearing them long anyway, he reasoned.
L returned to the living room to find their food had arrived and that Light had already dished up their dinner and poured them wine. L sat down and gave Light a smile as Light's trailed over him.
“Adorable” Light praised, pleased to see L wearing the nightwear he'd bought him. Seeing L wearing the clothes he provided made the Demon inside him purr in contentment. He was doing a good job in looking after his mate. L was eating better, sleeping better and happier than he'd ever been in his life before meeting Light.
They enjoyed their dinner, both of them sharing secretive little smiles as they made small talk and chatted about Light's trip away. The tension was mounting by the second and L shuddered when Light leaned over to pour him some more wine.
“Soon” Light crooned, letting just a sliver of allure into his voice, “Finish your food first, L, there's my good boy”
L squirmed in his seat because that was fucking hot. He hastily shoved another mouthful of pasta in his mouth, his face burning as he imagined Light calling him a good boy while he was pushing inside his-
Light bit his tongue to distract himself and took a few gulps of wine. This night was going to test every ounce of control, every lesson he'd learned, but he was ready for it.
Oh, was he ready for it…

Chapter Text
“That was so good, thank you, Light” L sighed as he finished the last bite of a decadent Millionaires cheesecake Light had ordered in for him, “You spoil me” he teased as Light topped up his wine.
“I know. I enjoy doing it too. You're beautiful, L, you deserve to be treated like a prince” Light held out his hand, “Come sit with me by the fire. I've got you something”
L smiled, Light always seemed to have something for him lately but far from being annoyed by it he was charmed and flattered. Gift giving and acts of service where Light's love language and it felt so good, so amazing to know the handsome, kind man loved him .
“Oh? From your trip?” L asked as they settled down on the sofa. L wasted no time in curling up next to Light, breathing in that beloved scent of cedarwood and amber, “God I've missed this” L muttered, his eyes closing as he luxuriated in finally cuddling up to Light on the sofa again.
“Mmm” Light reached into his pocket and handed L a small, black box, “It's old, L, very old and very…” Light considered how best to phrase it to a Human, “It's a talisman that promotes and encourages peace. I thought given how the Ripper investigation is going and how much you're burning yourself out with it it was something you could do with”
L was intrigued at that and opened the box to find the silver moon pendant, “Oh wow, that's gorgeous, Light” was it his imagination or did his fingers tingle when he lifted up the heavy silver chain?
“It's like… it's got this strange energy to it” L remarked, shivering as he cupped his hands around the pendant, “Unless I'm really drunk but I've only had a few glasses…”
Light chuckled and gently took the necklace, tying it around L's neck for him, “It's been blessed by a…Indigenous American Chief” he said, going with the closest comparable thing to what Rem was to the Incubi and Succubi, “I'd like you to always wear it. It’s silly but… the idea of you having a physical reminder of how important it is to keep your peace of mind is important. I don't want to see you stressed and upset about this case, L. The Ripper will stop eventually, no one lives forever and they may end up slipping up and getting caught eventually anyway. Your peace of mind is too high a price to pay”
L curled his fingers around the pendant, touched at the gesture. He promised he'd never take it off.
“You're right, Light, I will take a step back” L said, feeling calm as he felt the cool metal rest against his skin, “I don't want you worrying about me either”
Light smiled as L shifted in his arms, and, rather boldly, sat himself onto his lap, legs astride him and their bodies pressed tightly together. Light wrapped his arms around him, resting his hands gently on his hips. L's face was flushed red but Light could sense he wasn't overly nervous or afraid. If anything, he was waiting for Light to initiate things.
Light was pleased with that, it did wonders for his sense of self control because right then all he was thinking about was L's ass and how it would feel. How would L taste there? He could make him come with his fingers, his tongue, his dick-
“L…about tonight” Light said quietly, shutting those thoughts down before they ran away with him and reaching out to touch L's hair and smooth it back from his face, “I need you to be completely open and honest with me. If you're afraid or in pain, you tell me immediately . If you have second thoughts, you tell me immediately and we stop, okay?”
L nodded, his blood spiking as one of Light's hands dipped lower to cup his ass.
“Yes Light” he rasped, leaning in to seal their mouths together. Light hummed into the kiss, keeping it slow as L got used to feeling his hands on that part of him. L was making the sweetest little whines as he squeezed his ass and Light felt himself begin to harden against the mortal squirming in his lap.
“Light” L moaned, embarrassed when he realised he was rocking their groins together, “Feels good”
Light carefully inched the waistband of L's pyjamas lower until his fingers ghosted across bare skin, “I'm glad. I can make it feel so much better”
And then there was that warmth again and L's pupils dilated. Light's smile turned into a smirk as he watched his power take effect. It was just a tiny amount but seeing L affected by him had his cock throbbing.
“Touch me more, please” L panted, squirming harder as Light cupped his now bare ass and took the measure of him.
Discreetly, Light summoned the lube from the bedroom and, distracting L, kissed him hard as the tube flew straight into his out stretched hand.
L made a desperate sounding moan directly into his mouth that had Light tensing up and fighting back every urge to just slam inside him right then.
“Light, please” L rasped, squirming on Light's lap insistently. It felt like he was burning up from the inside and he could feel how hard Light was pressed against his thigh. He wanted that cock more than anything.
“Shh, I know” Light soothed, picking up on L's thoughts, “Soon, Love, I need to prepare you first”
Technically he could fuck L without prep and use his magic to ease the way but that didn't feel right to him. Instead, he kissed L hard, squeezing his ass and rocking the mortal against his aching flesh.
“I think clothes should come off now” Light purred when he pulled away, “I want to look at your beautiful body”
L had zero hesitation in shedding his clothes, something he had no idea was because of Light's allure (he just assumed it was because he was horny as hell) and smiled shyly as Light's eyes ran along his body.
“Beautiful” Light pronounced softly, “Gorgeous. Look at your skin, Baby, it's flawless”
L flushed at the compliment, “Your clothes too?”
Light laughed, “Of course, Sweet boy” He pulled back slightly and, somehow, managed to make pulling of his shirt look effortlessly elegant.
L stared with wide eyes at those muscles and that glowing, golden skin and felt his stomach flip with lust, “You are so beautiful” he whispered, enraptured, “You’re like an Angel”
Light’s lips curled into a sly smile, “Hmm? An Angel you say? Perhaps more a Demon” Light dipped his head to suck at the tempting skin on L’s neck to distract him from that quip, “May I take your underwear off now?”
It was the only barrier between his naked skin and Light and L looked at Light with a hazy expression, nodding his head and lifting his hips.
Light inched the underwear down slowly, eyes fixed on L’s straining erection and all that pale, unblemished skin. Snow would never look so pristine to him again after seeing such unmarred beauty.
L shifted in awkward embarrassment as Light stared at him, “Uh… can you not stare at it like that?”
Light husked out a laugh and captured L’s lips in a searing kiss. The distraction worked because he could feel the embarrassment slipping from L’s shoulders like rain. The kiss grew in intensity until they were writhing together, rubbing their straining arousals against one another in mounting desperation.
Light pulled away, smiling at the way L immediately whispered ‘please’
“I know” Light soothed, “Here, I’m not having your first time being on a sofa”
L whined at the feeling of Light pulling away and gently guiding him off his lap but at the sight of his outstretched hand he eagerly accepted it and stood up. The trip to the bedroom took seconds but felt like hours to L by the time he was finally lying down with Light on top of him, their breath mingling and the air around them almost cracking with tension.
L wasn’t a particularly poetic person but it really did feel like there was electricity in the air. He could almost see it sparking around them. He licked his lips, his breath coming in short pants as he stared up at Light with a hunger he didn’t know he could possess.
“Good. I need to get you ready. Make you feel good” Light murmured, more to himself than L as he laid the lube within easy reach and brushed L’s feathery hair out of his eyes.
L’s eyebrows furrowed in a slight frown. He was harder than he’d ever been in his entire life! “I am ready”
Light leaned down to rub his nose against L’s soothingly, “You're not, Sweet boy, you just think you are because you’re aching with need. I need to stretch you… here”
L’s breath caught in his throat when Light slid a hand past his thigh and around to his bottom, just shy of parting his cheeks. Suddenly he understood what Light meant. He was not ready for that. Not yet, anyway.
“Understood” L whispered, eyes locked on Light’s own as Light shed the last layer of his clothes. L knew Light was hung, hell, he’d felt that the night Light had pushed him to the ground and saved his life in the club but seeing that throbbing member and knowing it would soon be inside his own body was another matter entirely…
“If you’re having any doubts” Light began, searching L’s eyes for any traces of fear. He knew he was substantially over average for most humans and he didn’t want L to be intimidated by the size of him.
L was the one to arch up to kiss Light, “I thought you were supposed to be preparing me not yapping away?” he said cheekily.
“Mm, cheeky thing. Lay back, lift your legs and put them over my shouldersI want to look at you while i work you open. It will feel a little strange at first but bare with it. I will make you feel very, very good, I assure you”
As L settled back and assumed the position Light helpfully guided him into he had no doubt what Light was saying was the truth. The man seemed to be exuding pheromones or something. He was sex personified.
Light had lubed his fingers and used one to trace the pucker to the virgin body he’d be breaching and had to take a few seconds to calm himself down. L was so warm. So pure. The energy radiating from him was utterly delicious. He could glut himself for an eternity on it, and this moment was a transient one. Only once would he take L’s virginity so he couldnt rush. He had to relish every single second, every feeling.
L shivered when Light pushed just the tip of his finger into him and Light let out a shaky sigh.
“Oh, you’re so perfect” Light whispered, “So warm and tight”
L swallowed hard, mouth falling open in a mixture of surprise and pleasure as he felt Light’s finger sink fully inside him. It did feel strange but when Light moved his finger he found himself rocking into it, a sigh escaping him.
“Thats it” Light encouraged, smiling at the pleasure L was starting to feel. The discomfort at a new sensation was rapidly dissolving and L seemed ready for another finger. He pressed in another, slowly, and watched with fascination the way L’s face twisted in pleasure.
“Oh” L bit down on his lip, precome trickling from him and running down his length. He squirmed on the fingers, breath catching in his throat as he felt a dull ache start inside him.
Light didn’t bother to hide his grin and began to move his fingers, letting just a touch more of his allure envelope his mate. The loud, keening whine L let out was sweeter than any music, any poetry he had heard for countless years.
“Oh god, Light” L was practically writhing, “So good but not enough. Need more”
“I know” Light pressed a third finger inside, marvelling at the way his human’s body throbbed around him, “I’ll give it to you soon, Darling, you’re taking my fingers so well”
L bit down harder on his lip at the third finger because the ache inside him was growing, almost like a fire that was spreading out of control, and he opened his eyes, a warning trapped in his throat. Precome was oozing from him now and his cock was throbbing. He was so close! He clutched at Light’s shoulders, body shuddering, “Light! I’m-”
Light pressed directly against his prostate and stared hungrily as L let out another keening moan and began to come, his essence spurting from him to land in thick strips on his trembling belly. Light dug his nails into his palm to calm himself, his eyes flickering from amber to gold and then back again at the sight, scent and feel of L coming from his touch.
“I’m…” L gulped, still shuddering as his body twitched through the aftershocks, “I’m so sorry! I didn't mean to!”
Light understood his poor mate was embarrassed at what he perceived as coming ‘too soon’ so he pressed a kiss to L’s belly before curling his tongue around the pools and lapping them up, purring at the sweet taste.
“Light” L whispered, watching him lap up his release with wide eyes.
“You taste so good” Light sighed, “Never feel like you have to apologise for feeling pleasure. Giving you pleasure is my job, as well as my delight”
L’s mouth went dry at the words and he smiled shakily at Light, “I want you, Light, I need you in me now”
Light withdrew his fingers and draped himself over his mate, lifting one of L’s legs to wrap around his waist. Always a quick study, L did the same with the other one.
Light brushed the tip of his cock against the stretched hole waiting for him and L shuddered, fingernails digging gently into the skin of Light’s shoulders.
“Are you afraid?” Light asked softly, feeling the shivers running through L’s body as L waited to be penetrated. He sent out a soothing wave of energy, leaning down to brush his lips against L’s.
“No” L confirmed, hazy eyes fixing on Light’s, “ You would never hurt me”
“I would rather die” Light could feel his control starting to crack under the pressure. He was throbbing with need and pushed the tip of his cock against that wet hole, “Keep your eyes on me” He whispered, staring into the galaxies that had ensnared him as he pushed slowly inside the body that had always meant to be his.
L’s mouth dropped open, the only things he could feel, or even comprehend where ‘full’ and ‘perfect’ it felt right, to have Light inside him, and with each inch that slid smoothly inside he felt a creeping wave of pleasure consume him.
“That’s it” Light rasped, wracked with exquisite yet absolute agony. It was so hard to not just slam forward and fuck into the virgin body yielding itself to him. L’s walls were clinging to him, throbbing around him, and he had to physically grind his teeth to prevent himself from rocking his hips and fucking L too fast before he was ready for it. But it was love, not lust, that won out, and Light went against his very nature as an Incubus to fuck and take what he wanted in favour of letting his soulmate adjust to him because L deserved it. L deserved to be cherished.
“Fuck” L whined, a shaky breath escaping him when Light finally bottomed out, “Im so full. Light, it feels so good”
Light laughed softly, “Feels amazing” he murmured, “Never felt anything like this” and he genuinely hadn’t. He’d fucked countless mortals over the centuries, men and women both, and not one of them had made him feel the way L did. When he was inside him he was *home*
Everything was right, just as it should be, in L’s arms, and he wasn’t lost anymore.
“I love you”
Light felt tears well in his eyes at that small voice, the sheer trust and adoration reflecting back at him in those galaxy eyes.
He dropped his head to press a deep, meaningful kiss to L’s lips as he gently began to rock his hips.
Light didn’t have to say it back. L could feel it in the kiss.
Light rocked slowly, reading L’s body like a well-loved novel and giving him exactly what he needed. A kiss, a squeeze, a whisper of praise, a deeper thrust, until L was mewling and writhing beneath him, shame long gone in favour of giving in to what his soul as well as his body craved.
“Mine” Light panted, daring to thrust a little faster since L’s tight grip was beginning to loosen just a little as his body stretched and adapted to being fucked open, “My L. My soulmate”
“Yes, yes” L gasped, tugging Light down by his hair to kiss him again, squirming and trying to rock up into the cock piercing into him so deliciously, “My Light. My angel”
Light gasped at the intensity of the longing that flared through him at those impassioned words, dropping his head to pant into L’s neck as he fucked into him harder, his nature finally winning out. L’s responses were everything he could have wished for, L panted hard, clutching at him and crying out with each hard thrust into him.
“Oh god, yes, Light!” L ran his hands down the trembling plains of Light’s back, encouraging him to fuck him harder. Light responded beautifully, letting out an almost broken sounding moan as he bore down on him and fucked him masterfully until the bedsprings began to squeak and protest.
Rational thought was beyond him at this point, All Light knew was his mate was his and it was right to fuck him, claim him and fill him up with his seed. And he knew that was what L wanted to. L was whining, squirming and begging for more, for harder and faster with each desperate plunge he made into his body.
If L had been more aware of his surroundings and had the strength to open his eyes he would have realised there was something in the air around them. It shimmered with energy, a soft golden glow that emitted from Light and bathed him in its rays. As it was, he was aware of nothing but searing pleasure and absolute need, of being pushed closer and closer to the very precipice of ecstasy.
“I’m gonna come!” L gasped, unable to hold back the fire anymore. He let out a loud cry, shameless and raw, and clenched down around Light as his vision whited out and he tumbled over the edge into the inferno Light had set up within him.
Light bit down into L’s neck, slamming into him and crying out as he came hard in response to L’s own release, his body shuddering at the intensity of it. He had *never* come inside a human before, had never wanted to and had believed he couldn’t anyway, but L was his soulmate and with each throb and pulse of his cock he let out another strangled cry, the demon inside him roaring in triumph as he filled up and claimed his soulmate for his own in the most primal way possible.
It could have been minutes or it could have been hours, but when Light finally had enough senses about him to pull away from the claiming bite hed made to L’s neck, he managed to lift his head to look at his lover.
L’s hair was wild, his face still flushed and his eyes closed, lashes trembling against his cheeks as he dreamed. It was obvious to Light he’d literally blacked out from the intensity of it.
Light, however, now he was awake, was invigorated. He scooped up the come that still lay splattered across L’s hip and belly and greedily sucked it off his fingers, his eyes fluttering closed in bliss.
“Light”
Light smiled tenderly at the soft whisper and finished off his meal quickly, his demon purring in satisfaction as L’s life force flooded through his system.
As he curled up with his soulmate Light decided to make a vow: He would never feed off another human being again. From now on, L would sustain him. L was everything he needed.
And he was L’s Angel.
That meant more to him than any title Demonkind could ever bestow upon him.
