Summary
The lives he has taken tally and weigh, despite what his Mother may think of him. And it is for that reason this war needs to be won, because he cannot keep repeating himself. He cannot consider all the harm that is done and decide to cut their losses, because there is no more loss to be cut. They are only what they have, dragons, or so Aemond thought. Helaena will not ride with him. He knows this, now. He knows more than he should. He would have imagined knowing more would be useful, but all it feels is wrong.
“And you’ll be dead,” Helaena tells him, with unforgiving eyes and no remorse. He feels as though he is already dead in that moment. Helaena looks at him like she knows.

After Aemond speaks with Helaena, there is little to say. There is plenty to think.

Aemond’s mother has grown disgusted by the violence she started. She would see them all killed for her squeamishness, and Helaena stands next to her and agrees. He would’ve screamed, then. Sometimes, Aemond thinks he is always that child in the castle on the island, stinking of dragon with blood running down his face. He hates himself for it.
