Notes:

Sorry about the short chapter, hopefully the next one will be a better length

Chapter Text

Ruby was walking into the auditorium, and vomit boy was still following her, much to her annoyance. The room was loud, and with so many people in one room, it was almost impossible to tell which scent went where. The wanderer was quickly becoming overwhelmed with all the scents and noise.

Over her overwhelmed senses, the faint sound of Yang's voice was able to cut through the noise, and the wanderer was able to catch a glimpse of her sister in the crowd, who just happened to be waving at her. Ruby went toward her older sister, without giving vomit boy a second glance; The blond boy waved at the wanderer, but she didn’t pay him much mind as she went.

The wanderer stood next to Yang, doing her best to hide the fact that the room was giving her a migraine. How could she even explain to Yang that her senses were strong enough to rival that of a faunus, especially since she wasn’t born as, and still isn’t one.

“How has your day been?” Yang asked, looking a bit hopeful at the wanderer.

“I exploded”, was the answer that Ruby gave, completely deadpan as she spoke.

“First day, and already having a meltdown?”, the wanderer was pretty sure that it was a joke, but there was the chance that Yang actually thought that.

“Nope” Ruby answered, crossing her arms. “There was an angry rich girl yelling at me, I sneezed, a cloud made of fire and ice, and now there’s a crater at the front of the school” the wanderer then said plainly, like it was a completely normal thing for her, and in many ways, it was.

Out of the corner of her eye, the wanderer saw the girl in white storming up to them, and she seemed to be holding something in her hand. Not again…

“You!” the girl shouted, causing Ruby to recoil a bit from the sound.

“And… She’s back” the wanderer groaned, mentally preparing for her splitting headache to somehow get even worse than it already was.

“You’re lucky we didn’t get blown off the side of the cliff!”, of course the girl in white was still mad about that, why did the wanderer hope for anything different.

“By the Brothers, you actually exploded” Yang responded, looking a bit dumbfounded while doing so.

“What do you want now…” Ruby growled, making it very clear that she  was not in the mood to be dealing with the girl in white at the moment. Sadly, the ‘Jarl of Ice’ seemed to not have caught the message, and just shoved a pamphlet into the wanderer’s face.

For what felt like hours, the girl in white rambled on and on about  the ‘Schnee Dust Company’s’ policies on their products. Ruby just ignored what the ‘Jarl of Ice’ was saying, as she just didn’t care about the legal jargon; She didn’t care when she opened her busyness in Skyrim, so why would she care about it now.

“Read this, and never talk to me again” the girl in white said, finally shutting up and walked away, leaving the wanderer with the pamphlet in her hand. Ruby was silent for a short while, as the brief encounter ran over and over in her mind, and a single thought suddenly took center stage.

“You walked up to me!”.

The first day of Beacon wasn’t the best, but it could have been far worse. With having to readjust to being on Remnant again, a rich girl telling me off, and already causing an explosion, things just weren’t set up for an easy transition. At least it wasn’t like my first day at the college in Winterhold, that was quite the spectacle.

Ruby was writing in her journal while laying down on her sleeping bag, as she often did when she needed to get her thoughts in order after an eventful day. She had a stick of charcoal in her hand, and even though she knew that someone might question it, it didn’t stop her from using the same writing tool that she had been using for the past few years.

“Hey Ruby” Yang said, catching the wanderer off guard as the blond came into view. The wanderer quickly closed her journal, put down the charcoal, and grabbed another book out of her bag, then opened it to look like she was reading the whole time. “What you doing?” the blond then asked, looking curious at the younger sister.

“Just… Reading” Ruby answered, pushing her journal more off to the side. She looked into the book, and started reading the words when she noticed which book she ended up taking out of her bag, and becoming a bit flustered from the thought. I grabbed The Lusty Argonian Maid…

The wanderer did quite like the book, but it was more the kind of thing that she would read when she was alone, otherwise she would usually read Songs of Skyrim, or something of that nature. Yang didn’t seem to notice Ruby’s reaction to the book she was reading, and instead was now watching a group of boys as they were getting ready to sleep. Ruby fidgeted with the object under her shirt, as a small memory of her watching Scout from the distance outside Windhelm came to mind. Why did it have to be you…?

Ruby looked away and closed her book, before putting the rest of her stuff away in her bag. Tomorrow is another day, She thought before putting her head down to try to get some sleep, even though she knew that that was closer to a dream than most would expect.
