She took in a deep breath, trying to look at Bruce Wayne with new eyes. The light of the ruined ballroom still casted subtle golden hue over the place; the darkness of the night casted shadows on the valleys of his face. And yet his eyes were a stalwart blue, honest, open and kind. In that moment, he looked so much like his mother that the longer she looked at him, the more her chest ached with loneliness.
So she closed her eyes and looked away.
“Forget about it,” Mallory replied. “Save your gratitude for someone that was actively thinking about saving you.”
