The Light Burnt Out (I'm Working on the Last Chapter, but it's Taking Forever to Feel Right)

Chapter 36: Secrets and Tears Pt. 2

Notes:

I'M SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG, BUT I NEEDED IT TO SOUND RIGHT.

I did have an 'incident' regarding summer camp, so I definitely channeled my own angst into this. :)

I also can't believe that I hadn't added relationship tags yet.

Chapter Text

Moonie couldn't think straight. Ghosts weren't out of the realm of possibilities, but they were rare. Ghosts were born out of unfinished business, but Raina shouldn't have had any unfinished business. She was eight. Unless…

Moonie shut her thoughts down. She didn't want to think about the possibility of Raina hating her for what happened, even if all evidence pointed to the contrary. Luna slowly backed out of the room. Moonie honestly didn't care. She was focused on the slightly translucent kid in front of her. It was her little duckling.

"Hi… Did you hand Elle to me?" Moonie asked softly. Raina nodded. She could still feel fear coursing through her soul. She missed Moonie. She wondered if Moonie missed her. Moonie had been sad, but Raina had never thought that it was about her absence.

"I see… So, Elle's been appearing random places. Was that you?" Moonie inquired. Raina nodded. Moonie smiled brightly. It made Raina feel warm inside. She had spent so long trying to make Moonie happy again and she had finally succeeded. Raina was so proud of herself. Moonie reached her hands over the edge of the couch and reached out for Raina. Raina reached back, but their hands passed through each other. Moonie sighed.

"Sorry, kiddo. I-" Moonie cut off by the door to the patio opening. It was Monty. Moonie stared at Monty and Monty stared back. The two just stared. This daddy wasn't for Raina at all.

"Um, Moonie?" Monty called out. The air went still. It was awkward. The atmosphere was heavy. Moonie grabbed at her hat. Everyone at that party could feel that all hell was about to break loose whether they knew about the dead child or not.
