Chapter 4: First Sight part 2

Notes:

By the way the Amber relationship isn’t going to last, but I’m also not focusing too much on relationship stuff since it doesn’t really interest me. Also sorry if this chapter is shorter.

Chapter Text

Rudy with a robotic voice stood in front of a beat up Rex (due to insulting Monster Girl) and co “I am happy to announce the new Gaurdians of the Globe: Monster Girl, Black Samson, Rex Splode, Invincible, Shrinking Ray, Dupli-Kate and Atom-Eve.” He paused for a moment.

“I’m glad most of teen teams still together.” Mark said he stood behind Eve.

“I’m sorry but I can’t be in a team with Rex and Kate.” Eve said, she turned to leave to the nearest exit.

Robot turned to Kate and Rex “Did something happen between you and Eve?” They only looked away in response.

“Did you not tell everyone else what happened?” Mark followed Eve out the door.

“No I haven’t, you were the first person I told about the break up.” Eve walked jumped and pink thruster appeared behind her.

“Does that mean your not going to join the new guardians of the globe?” Mark also jumped up.

“No, I can’t stand looking at Kate or Rex, and when someone breaks your trust like that...” Eve took a breath she flew forward towards the sky. “I’m just really mad right now, I’d rather be alone.” She sped up.

“Are you sure?” Mark followed behind.

“Yes, I don’t feel like talking to anyone.” She added.

Mark stopped dead in the air, watching Eve fly away.

It was a Sunday with clear skies and a scorching hot sun bathed him in warm lights, every sweat particle that came out of his pores was taken by the wind as he flew. Mark had gone out in a t-shirt and baggy white sweat pants, pants that he regretted bringing because he had to create the Gordian knot so they wouldn’t come off flying. The only thing he brought from his superhero suit designed for flying, were the white goggles that protected his eyes from the sun.

Mark descended like the leaves in autumn, the days of practice with his father and crash landings had finally paid off. He landed on a remote part of a canyon, where no one would see him. There was another reason for Mark going to a canyon because it was full of rocks and no mud or grass to dirty him again. Mark used both hands and put his index and middle finger on his temples.

“How was it again?” He pushed the fingers on his temples towards his forehead, wrinkles formed between his eyes. The man had put one leg forward, his left arm had been in a 90 degree angle in front of his face while the other was near his waist. In a second he had switched both arms positions, his right had been in front to front with his face.

Mark copied the movements to the best he could remember, instead of a rock the ground lifted up a little and dropped down again. Mark tried again it was the same result, Mark tried again his arms somehow felt tired as if he was pushing up stone. About 5 minutes of the same repeated movement had him tired of doing it and in fact the longer it went he failed to push up more rock. The area he had been practicing on had turned to orange like rocks, their shape resembled that of stones people put in of their walkway to their house.

“What could I be doing wrong.” Mark spoke out loud.

Mark remembered the pose again, he rectified himself making his back straighter and his arms he locked into a 90 degreee angle as much as he could. He launched his arm forwards. Suddenly a rock the size of his fist comes out. Mark stares in awe for a few seconds as the spherical rock levitated. Mark froze in place as he didn’t know what to do next. The floating stone fell back to the Earth, Marks stance had broken and he began to celebrate.

“Woo!” he punched the air “Let’s try again.” Mark said.

He switched back to the position and repeated the movements a even larger spherical stone came out its diameter would be the length of his arm. Mark stayed in position, he moved his legs side to side to his right. The stone with a slight delay followed like the movement of a whip. “Woah…” Mark beamed in excitement.

Eventually his arm started hurting from its rigid stance, and the feeling of carrying a boulder. He let it drop, the stone hit the floor and it bounced and rolled slightly to the right before halting. Mark looked at his hands, closing and opening them.

“I wish I had brought something to write this down.” Mark said out loud.

He placed his index and thumb on his chin and hummed a loud “Hhmmm”. Mark put both his arms back his arms like two right angles. He bent forwards and his legs lowered making his knees bend slightly. He pushed his hands up, and a thin wall of earth appeared from the ground. As quickly as it appeared, it crumbled like sand and left a cloud of earth. Mark with a swipe of his hand cleared the smoke using his viltrumite strength. From the distance suddenly there was a loud sonic boom, any small surface level rocks where Mark stood where blown away.

“Hello Mark.” His father said, Omni-man stayed in the air, his red cape flowing with the wind.

“Dad? What are you doing here.” Mark said surprised.

“Your mother told me to go find you, since your friend William called to hang out.”

“Oh alright.”

“What are you up to anyways?” Omni-man asked looking at the rock’s Mark had controlled.

“Well ever since the incident with the glowing kite I’ve been able to this...” Mark said, only now realizing how odd it was all and how he just accepted getting powers, but reading comics all the time accustoms you to that… and having a superhero dad.

“You can make boulders?” Omni-man didn’t quite get it.

“No- Well yes but… just let me show you.” Mark got into position and his stance widened.

Mark punched up, a boulder shot up from the ground leaving a crater in the ground, Nolan’s eyelids widened for a moment. “That’s what you did?” He muttered quietly to himself remembering before the alien invasion when he had come to help Mark after waking up from his coma. Mark controlled the sphere of earth and moved it left to right.

“Is this what you’ve been wasting your time on Mark.” Omni-man said in a puzzled tone, Mark seemed surprised his father didn’t share his own enthusiasm, the boulder dropped giving a huge thud. Omni-man flew to the boulder and grabbed it in his hand and lifted up the huge ball of Earth in front of him. “You’re a viltrumite Mark, this is beneath you.” Omni-man crushed the boulder with his hand, the earth crumbled beneath the pressure of his hand and its pieces fell onto floor like rain.

Mark wanted to say something but couldn’t push out the words “Yeah… right.”

Nolan noticed his son’s clear disappointment “Look Mark you can figure out these powers later just focus on your real training.”

“Come on let’s go, or your mother is gonna kill me.” Mark’s father said with a slight chuckle in the end.

Mark flew up and followed his father who stayed closer to the ground, leaving behind orange avalanches trailing beneath them as the force of their flight displaced the particles on the ground.

Mark entered secretly through his window, he changed clothes and went downstairs to meet William.

“Hey dude how are you?” Mark said.

“Fine, dude by the way how’s Amber?” William asked.

“Well I’ve been thinking and…” Mark didn’t have an answer.

“Come on dude live a little, even if it doesn’t last it’s still a relationship.”

“Yeah I’ll call later maybe.”

“You wanna go to get something to eat.”

“Uh sure.” They left through the front door.

Mark laid on his bed as he stared up at the ceiling of his room, Mark was pondering on whether to call Amber or not, it was seven it wasn’t too late.

THUNK

He looked to his window in an instant. “Who’s there!” Mark’s window had been opened, and cold air entered the room and made his curtains dance. “I’m not repeating myself who’s there.” Mark raised his hands into fist,

He heard a voice in the wind. “F… me…”

“What.” Mark said when suddenly the air from the window blew even harder, his curtains where raised way above exposing the night sky and the full moon.

“Follow me!” The wind spoke clearly.

“Are you the strange woman?” He asked, the dreams and visions had started with her.

The wind stopped and blew again, Mark could only follow curiously. He flew up to the clouds above, the air freezing him because he went out with only gray sweatpants. The wind pushed from behind and he followed the pushing current. It took a few minutes before he reached the destination, it was a small lake which reflected moonlight. He floated above the area before he felt himself being pulled down by a powerful air current, Mark yelled before he was cutoff being smashed right into the water.

Mark recalibrated his senses and he had to resist the water current, he came out to the shore grasping for breath.

“Wait!” The mysterious voice said again.

“You tried to drown me.” He said angrily

“You’ve been giving me visions and not letting me sleep.” He gasped for air but it felt like a vacuum had sucked out everything.

“Listen” The voice was clearer.

“I don’t know what you did to me but I don’t want your fucking powers man. They’re useless to me anyways.” The crickets had stopped chirping and only sounds of a flying plane was overhead him. It felt like his body had been locked, his bones had turned to stone.

A female voice echoed. “What did you say?” Mark heard from all around, the lake had started to form a water spout that came out the water and turned into a familiar human figure. “You think my bending is worthless.”
