Chapter Text
Sun made a face the moment they stepped into the bedroom. The stench rolled over him in a sickening wave. “Uggg, it reeks! It'll take days to get the smell out.” So much scrubbing! And even then he wasn’t sure if he could get the smell out of the stone and everything made of cloth would have to be washed.
KC ducked as he entered through the window. “The smell is paranormal. It cannot be washed away. I will clear the space once I have our companion settled" He motioned to the unconscious moon in his arms.
“I'm going to help Athena with repairs.” Solar made a pile with pillows then placed the still slumbering moon in them. Somehow the little lunar bat had slept through everything in true moon fashion. He followed the towering lunar bot out of the room.
Spotting his discarded sewing Sun sat on the end of the bed and picked it back up. Lill Moon really needed something warm
Once KC settled Heisenbeurg down on one of the many spare beds he stepped out to leave them to their task. He stepped into the middle of the foyer, the tattered bed sheets hanging around him like an impromptu cape. The stench was the strongest here, a vile mix of decay and dark power. Gracefully he turned in a circle, slender fingers gathering up magical energy, forming it into swirls that made the air around him shimmer. He moved his hands downward, directing the paranormal energies to the floor. The foul smell and heaviness the creature had left corkscrewed around him, dispersing into the foundations then the earth.
Task taken care of that left the twisted corpses of the astrals minions. Grimacing he touched them as little as possible, tossing the pieces into the cold ashes of the firepit to be cleansed later. Only then did he return to their shared bedroom. Elegantly he flopped onto the bed, stretching his slender frame over the mattress. Crimson eyes focused on the sleeping niblet. “So tiny. It's almost hard to believe you gave me so much trouble.”
Sun popped a little navy nightcap with an equally tiny bell on the end of it on the dozing moon’s head which of course woke Moon up. Confused, he reached up, small fingers grasping at the furry brim. “It'll keep your little head warm.” and it looked so precious.
"Any proper lunar model needs a night cap!" KC laughed softly which startled Moon. Chirping, the little one looked around for the source of the sound until he spotted KC. Instead of reacting with fear he chirped again and began crawling toward him. “Are you coming to get me a little one?” he purred.
Sun all but squeaked in delight. Lill Moon was too cute for his own good.
Moon’s eyes locked onto the shiny thing that was draped over the larger bot’s shoulder. Cooing happily he grasped at it, small hands closing around the bell, shaking it. The soft chime made him smile broadly. Until he heard a tiny echo of the bell on the end of his cap. Greatly confused he began to look around for the new sound, every time he moved his head he could hear the tiny chime.
"Ohhhh, he looks so precious!” Sun laughed softly as the baby continued to try and find the source of the sound. Eventually Moon gave up and focused on the larger bell, shaking it. KC gently ran his slender fingers over Moon’s delicate head.
“We should find him some toys.’
“I’m not sure if they will have anything appropriate at the market. What about the other Moon, the one from the daycare? He may be able to procure some toys from his dimension.” KC offered.
“Maybe. I don’t know how to contact him but Solar does.”
The portal swirled, light flaring to the point it was almost blinding forcing KC to shield his sensitive eyes. The makeshift shroud had been replaced with dark blue pants sprinkled with tiny stars and an oversized hoodie. A moment later the annoyingly bright light faded and Moon stepped into the library.
“I hate using that thing.” He shuddered, shaking off the magical residue. “I tried to get Sun to come so he can help but he refused but I did get some things.” He held up a few plastic bags, a long box containing a bassinet resting against his side. The crinking noise immediately caught mini Moon’s attention. He chirped and reached for the bags with his tiny hands. Spotting the baby in Sun’s arms he stepped forward. KC instinctively bristled. “Easy, damn I keep forgetting how tall you are.” He held his hands up in a placating gesture.
“Don’t you have a Kill Code in your world?” Sun asked, hardly phased by the show of protectiveness.
“Yeah but he’s fun sized.” Moon chuckled.
“Fun sized?” KC tilted his head.
“The top of his head comes up the bottom of my chest. Didn’t have enough resources to make him a larger body.” Moon shrugged. They were pretty used to the shorter version of Kill Code, he seemed a lot less threatening then his much taller counterpart.
“That’s actually kinda funny. A mini KC. I bet he’s adorable.”
Moon snorted. “My Sun seems to think so. He even adopted a Kill Code from another dimension.”
“Lets go to the dining room so you can put the bags down.” Sun picked up the box and motioned for him to follow. He barely noticed as KC dropped to all four and all but glued himself to the solar bots side.
Moon made sure to keep a few feet of distance between himself and the protective lunar bot lest he accidentally trigger the other’s instincts. Not for the first time he was thankful that he didn’t have Old Moon’s baby care protocols. Becoming a mush head in front of KC would have been mortifying.
He sat the bags on the ridiculous large table. “Wasn’t one hundred percent what you needed to I grabbed a bunch of stuff.” Everything from a few bottles to bibs to a few onesies. As an after thought he had added jars for baby food.
KC settled himself and using his claws, began cutting the tags off everything while mini Moon waved his arms around animatedly, excited about all the brightly colored objects. The moment he freed a stuffed dinosaur from its plastic prison he handed it to his niblet whom gripped it tightly while smiling widely.
“He’s a cute little bugger.” Moon said.
“That he is.” KC rumbled. “He appears to remember nothing of his past life though that may change when becomes older.”
“Hopefully without Lord Eclipse’s corrupting influence he won’t become the monster he used to be.” Sun said sadly, recalling some fragmented memories of his former brother’s cruelty.
“With you two raising him, I’m sure the niblet will be fine. Once he can walk he will be into everything.” Moon chuckled.
“He is a moon so naturally he will be curious about everything around him.” KC rumbled, pleased by the small moon’s interest in the growing pile of brightly colored objects. He plucked up a small stuffed duck that was part of a mobile and dangled it above his adopted offspring's head. Moon chirped and cooed softly, small hands reaching for the object.
After finding the longest pair of tongs he could Solar cautiously approached the pulsating star. It felt like his casing was trying to crawl off his endo as he carefully picked the eldritch object up and placed it back on its cradle. Quickly he backed up to a respectful distance before the star decided being picked up with salad tongs was offensive.
The metal was badly scorched. Shuddering he disposed of the tongs then headed for his workshop to pick up a few tools and parts. Given how much damage had been done to the limb she was going to have to remove it and machine some of the parts with what he had on hand.
