Chapter Text

Sitting on a roof in Crime Alley

“Hey Signal, I’m turning in early, I’m gonna patrol tonight instead.” Jason spoke into his comm.

“See ya, zombies can’t stand the daylight. Or is that just in Minecraft?” Signal responds.

That statement doesn’t deserve a response.

Jason pushed his hair back and put his helmet on over his domino mask.

Haaah. Jason sighs.

He stands up and walks to the fire escape of the abandoned building he’s standing on and climbs down.

Jason left his bike back at the garage, he’s hoofing it today.

He walks with confidence, these are his streets. No one is gonna try to mug Red Fucking Hood.

“Look at the kid, he’s not even moving, he’s making this so easy.” Jason hears a man laugh.

“Get those shorts off ‘im Spike.” Jason frowns at this, and turns towards the direction he hears the voices.

He spots two figures, one of the men has his hands all over, a fucking kid? And the other is urging him on. Green floods his vision.

He grabs the guy closest to him, the scrawny one and slams his head into the brick wall.

“AHHHHhG!” toothpick yells. He stops screaming after the fourth hit.

Jason lets him drop.

He sees the one who was holding the kid pull a gun. “B-bet you aren’t bullet proof Red Hood, so j-just back off!” he screeches.

Pathetic

It only takes a second for Jason to pop a round through his thick skull.

Jason’s still feeling green but he knows he needs to calm down before he approaches the kid.

He takes a deep breath and looks at the kid, he looks like shit. He’s got a pretty big black eye and looks scared outta his mind. Jason walks up to the kid slowly and puts his hands up, he knows he probably scared the kid with what he did, he doesn’t want to scare him more.

“Hey, kid. You okay?” Jason asks, he tries to put his friendly voice on, but he can’t completely keep the edge out of it.

Jason waits. The kid’s leaning against the wall, there’s a bit of blood on the wall behind the kid’s head. Ouch. He probably hit it hard.

“You’re safe now. I’m not gonna hurt you.” he says as he takes a step closer.

Now it’s a staring contest. Jason’s not really sure what to do. Usually people thank him and run or scream and run and neither of those have happened yet.

The kid makes a shocked expression that turns into a smile.

Aww, who could hurt a kid like this, he’s adorable. Jason thinks, and he almost lets the green enter his vision again.

The boy points to his ear and shakes his head. It is then Jason notices what looks like a hearing aid behind the boy's ear.

Oh, he can’t hear me. TGFBB, thank god for Black Bat, I actually learned to sign. Jason thinks.

“Can you sign?” Jason asks, and the kid nods his head.

“Are you okay?” Jason signs.

“What do you think?” the boy responded.

“Ha,” Jason laughs, he’s glad the kid can still make a joke after what happened.

“Yeah, fair enough. You hungry, kid?” Jason asks, and the kid nods again.

“I thought so, come on.” Jason signs.

He puts his and on the boy’s shoulder and guides him past the bodies on the ground and out of the alley.
